Wouldn't getting rid of champion challenges mean losing out on the chance for victory points, as you can get extra for a unit champion killing a character in a challenge.   And won't this just lead to countering a Deathstar with another Deathstar?

It might be a pain for your super killy characters to get held up for a turn, but being usually on the receiving end, I like a champion speedbump

I don't have a problem with the idea of challenges and the tactical options they open up.  The rules for them however (and for command models overall), are needlessly complicated in a ranked up game like WFB.

Command models do weird things in this game.

In my overhaul mod it's gonna be a lot simpler.

Eithher make command models simple to work with or have them just be fluffy models that don't do anything.

I was a bit easier when you just moved the fighting challengers off to the side and everyone else continued on without them.

I guess if you're bringing something your opponent can't easily deal with, you should be expecting such tactics. Maybe not the most reasonable thing to do (accepting challenges with no consideration) but a dragon is the party pooper in most games. So the next best thing an opponent can do is buy some time and skip one-two turns. I wouldn't blame them for that

That argument is just apoligizing for 2 broken mechanics: monster characters and challenges are both out of whack

To be honest I disagree. I find it very fluffy and fun, picturing the unit champion sacrificing his life to buy a bit more time for his regiment.

I agree with Gankom to disagree.

True enough. And it is time to be agreeable by disagreeing  with your spelling.  (Should I add an emoticon here for benevolent irony? Padre warned against making jokes. )

Benevolence is the best kind of irony. One I'm sure we can all live with.

Besides what's the internet without such helpful joke's?

Probably the reason why I was elevated ad honorem altarium.

Agreed then. What we are dealing with here is:
a) a software
b) a possessed
c) all the above

When I first started playing my buddy and I interpreted the challenge rules that if a hero or lord character doesn't accept a challenge then the opponent gets to chose one of those hero or lords to go to the back.

When I played others they pointed out that 'character' in the challenge rules also refers to champions.

But in our basement games it basically made champions useless but it take make hero and lord challenges meaningful.

The downside is that champions become useless, but the plus side is that challenges are more meaningful and cool.

Challenges involving Champions can be meaningful and cool too.

I just see the rules as making champion challenges a simple way to tarpit an enemy hero.

That just seems gamey to me

It's usually not much of a tarpit. More like a speed bump.

Yes, most champions (barring Chaos) will not survive the first round. And if they do - well that is meaningful and cool.

Except Ogres. And I'm not sure that is meaningful and cool.

I said "most champions (barring Chaos)," implying that there are some others. But very well: "most champions (barring Chaos and Ogres)."

(( Fidelis von Sigmaringen,

I think Necropolis Knight Captains might be able to do okay too... and Ushabti Ancients I think could do a challenge okay as well.

Sorry, couldn't resist.  ))
