How have the location specific scenarios been working
« on: August 25, 2005, 01:20:46 PM »
Hi all,

Just wondered how the scenarios for the locations have played? A lot of people have played with them.

Do you have a favourite?

Have you played one that is terrible?

Just some feedback would be nice so the next set can be better.

Cheers,

Adam

So why you complaining!

The 'Foraging' scenario is great, it just puts a spin on the pitched battle.

The raid is an all or nothing scenario. I've found if you lose you lose bad and if you win you win well. 200 points is a lot to gain. A good way to gain 200 when defending is to move a large block of flaggies up to hold a marker. They can pay for themselves if they don't die by the end. Also since the attacker almost HAS to go for the markers you can trap them easily in these areas. Even though your down on points, if you take the right troops defending can be done.

And and as for your questions,    my favourite so far is foraging. Simple yet effective.

Well I can only speak for Foraging really. In order to get to play one I need to give my opps an advantage so Foraging it is if its available at the locations.
This one does give a twist to the game, not much but its there.

I watched a River crossing being played and it actually looked like fun, but the amount of bleating and complaining Vann Harls opponent did before the game started you got the impression he thought it was horribly unfair.
This scenario as has been suggested will probably be big win  or big lose.

I think the primary problem is that we dont have an abundance of games so folks dont seem that willing to do something odd with the ones they do play unless it seems balanced (or in their favour)

I mostly played Ambush scenarios, a few Raids, and a Siege-scenario (and lots of skirmish ones, of course...). I have to say that I liked playing them very much, especially the Ambush.
Of course, in raid and ambush, I've only played as the attacker, but I enjoyed it very much.
I'll play the other ones soone enough!

I like the Forage scenario. It is the only one I've had any success getting an unaligned opponent to agree to play ( I don't count my son in the list of those needing persuading). It is fun and a nice change from straight up Pitched Battle

I played some.

River crossing was great fun, both as defender and as attacker. Raid was fun too, but I found it was a bit hard for Dwarves when they are the defenders.

I'll be playing some of those skirmish scenario's soon, and will probably try to get some games in using the "chaos in the streets" scenario too. I'll try to let you know how it went.

Chaos in the streets is very much fun to play, but takes a very long time to set up...

Interesting Point I've just asked in the Battle Report Forum.

Bechafen has just ONE scenario?

Chaos in the Streets.
It has a very simple Win Lose Draw result based on Highest Unit Strength -

....so how are people going to get Massacres, Solid Victories and Minor Victories...................

Sorry - I'm slightly lost - are you saying it is an 'automatic' massacre?
 :?:

The BRB capture is the one where the 3rd party is watching from the sidelines, and you can play full victory vonditions in the historical re-fight where he joins in for 'another' 3 turns and mixes in 'flank attack'.

Well, the way I've been playing it...

When it's not a draw, we just count the victory points as usual, with bonus victory points for a scoring unit (over half strength, etc) in the square.

Granted, that's not exactly as it is explained in the scenario, but it's a fair way to make the difference between a minor win, solid win or massacre.

Yes but you have a contradiction with table quarters for example.

You want as many units as possible in the centre, yet you want units to capture table quarters..............

Didn't count table quarters, of course. We only counted VP points as usual for destroyed and fleeing units, BSB, etc.

Just some house rules really, agreed upon between mates, but they work - otherwise it would be an instant massacre anytime someone wins, and that's a bit harsh.

Haven't played it yet. Doen't look that special, but I really would like to play one battle using this scenario, just for the story behind it.

Don't know what Houdini bought when he went to the store
But I sure do miss the eighties
