Thanks guys. I think my camera made it look better than it really is, though.

Here's a WIP Necromancer that I made out of an old leftover Empire Wizard I had lying around. I'm thinking of painting him a bit like a vulture.

And here are also my first batch of zombies.

Nice!

I love the zombies the most, and both the crawling one and the walking legs are amongst my favourites (which may sound a bit stupid, considering it's a group of seven)

Best zombies I have ever seen. That one with just the spine sticking up made me laugh.
That necromancer is turning out terrific.

I agree, the spine guy is great.

Funny, I was just thinking about selling off the Mantic zombies ghouls I've got. Seeing how great yours look has got me rethinking that....

Thanks guys.

I finished painting my Necromancer which I decided to name Skivir Voltor. I kinda managed to break off his staff at some point and I did a half assed pinning which I then just decided to reinforce with a ghostly swirl that is drawn into the severed head. So as a result I ended up giving Skivir a minor backstory about how he is inept as a Necromancer and it's the staff that's doing all the work for him; including chanting incantations through the severed head.

I also like to think that I have gotten rather good at sculpting fur.

Amazing model and amazing fluff. He really does look like an inept necromancer. :biggriin:

Hey thanks.

I think that I decided to go with this as a backstory.
Quote
Skivir is actually inept as Necromancer and before the time of the Malign Portents he was little better than a petty robber. While looting the ruins of a citadel he came upon the Staff of the Doomlord in a forsaken Necromancer's lair. The staff was a manifestation of the spirit of a Necromancer from the world that was. The ghostly artifact could tell that Skivir was a fool, so it imbued upon him visions of power and influence if he would just take up the staff and aid Nagash in the great work. Now Skivir wanders Shyish posing as a boastful Necromancer; trusting the Staff of the Doomlord to carry out all the magic.

This has the hallmark of a good Black Library novel. I can just imagine the different living nightmares this guy could get into as he unleaded his unknown magic.

I might decide to try writing a short story about him later. I have been thinking about learning to write stories anyway and the AoS setting is so flexible that I might as well use that as a starting point.

Awesome! Do it and I will read! (Based on the ‘build it, they will come’ 😸)

I like that figure a lot!  The painting is very good, too.

Hey thanks.

I thinking of picking up a box of Wizards to make more Necromancers. It's probably one of the best character plastic kits that GW made for Warhammer before they they decided to go for the more simple ones.

I threw together three more specific looking zombies out of a bunch of bits to give the unit a more diverse appearance and also because it's fun.

The Death warband is really "nice". Cool to see the mix of models & the converting work. Somehow I've never envisioned that dead Chaos Warriors could walk again. So that's very original for me.  :eusa_clap:

Hey thanks, guys.

Got nothing new to show at the moment, but I have ordered 40 Mantic skeletons which I will probably show off soon. I have also decided upon some fluff for my AoS minis. The region is somewhat inspired by WHFB Nordland and the Free Guilders there will bear their colours.

I intend to have my dudes coming from a coastal region in Shyish named Reef of the Ancient Sigmariner with Ancient Sigmariner being the capital city of the region. Out in the ocean there will be Realm Gate that connects to an ocean in Ghyran, allowing for sailing between the realms. The free people of the reef travel through the gate to trade with the Duradin who lives at the other side and are doing extensive mining operations in monolithic petrified trees, which they have carved out to resemble proud watch towers of old. Because of the connection to Ghyran through the Realm Gate, the reef in Shyish enjoy a bountiful ocean with a fertile coastline ripe for agriculture. Further into the hinterlands the Wight Kings (who are forever feuding with eachother over ancient slights) defend the borders against invading armies, while enjoying an arrangement with the free people who pay them tribute by offering them criminals and captive enemies convicted to death.

As of the events of the Malign Portents the region has been thrown into an upheaval, but Ancient Sigmariner still stands. The Wight Kings are at open war with eachother and they have started to demand that the free people make their allegiance clearer. Meanwhile the Legion of Sacrament is creating a foothold and Arkhan the Black has ordered the construction of stronghold near the border to remind the inhabitants whom their true regent is.
