The latest n00b!
« on: August 15, 2007, 04:58:01 AM »
Hi All,

Well, Im new to this forum and well, Warhammer forums in general, so I thort I would introduce myself!

Im 26 years old from Melbourne, Australia.
I have been playing warhammer and 40k for about 14 years on and off. Recently gotten back into playing after about a year off (got married, playing Magic, the Gathering alot). Before my hiatus I played alot with my Kislev Mordhiem Warband. These guys attracted me coz I could have a big 'ol grizzly but it was the Halberd weilding Handgunners that got me hooked!

Blackpowder weapons are t3h Nutz0r!

So I decided to start my Nuln themed army. I went out, bort a few boxed sets, army book, griffin, Flagalant and Greatsword blisters and then....... left them in a box for a year!  :?

So now my mates and I are back into it and have begun playing some games. Have played 3 1000pt battles in the last week in fact.

1st Game, Brettonians owned me, sad day.
2nd Game, Sent Night Gobbo's running for the Worlds Edge Mountains
3rd game a close affair against Chaos (Spawn are funny)

In all 3 games having units depleted (ranks at a time) from Handguns and Chaiots left in splinters by Cannons warmed my heart! We are now doing up some 1500pt lists.

I am a pretty average painter but can do a good job if I push myself so I will take some pics and post some of my stuff.

Anyway, just wanna say G'day to everyone and hope we can share some advice etc.

Cheers
Chewy (Mat)

Awesome, welcome aboard!

Have you frequented these fine forumns before, or are you new to these as well? If you are new, I'd check out the War Room sometime in the near future; it is filled with tons of cool articles about tactics (most of are still back in sixth edition but most of the logic still applies). Heck, they are what got me playing empire in the first place!

Nice to hear you have had some good games so far! Sounds like everyone is around the same skill level, meaning you can develop as gamers together and have yourselves a nice lil arms race  :icon_twisted: (Empire is good at arms races, lol)

Don't feel too bad about losing to Bretonnia, they are a difficult army to beat for a new player. Also, please don't automatically assume they are "cheesy" or "overpowered". They simply are more difficult to beat when you are not used to them

Another thing I would like to throw out their before I bid you fair well. I don't know how much experience you have had with the fantasy system, but their is one major glaring difference between the two that most new players don't realize. In 40k, you have to kill stuff, where in fantasy you don't necessarily. Its all about Combat Resolution, and if you don't realize this you will struggle horribly (not to mention you will think Empire is teh suck...)

Alright, later

Wait let me stand on my head.  There, now we can see eye to eye.  I still don't see how these Aussies don't just fall off the planet.
Speaking of Oz, have you ever notice that the equivalent does not exist on the Warhammer World map.  Somebody in Nottingham must not like you guys.

In addition to Wyzer1's fine advice, never, I  mean never misspell War Altar.  The Inquisition is not a pleasant experience.

While guns and especially cannons are nice, do not rely on them exclusively.  First many people find playing against a gunline to be frustrating and booring.  Second although it can be formidable against certain types of armies, it sucks against fast armies.

Fortunately, I have both Sigmarian and Ulrican Indulgences.  I have noted that the sales have dropped off.  With the Inquisition in full swing, business should pick up.  Get yours before the Inquisition get you.

Ooops, sorry bout the wrong forum thing!
Nope, never been here before. Just looked at a few Forums on the net and this one seemed to jump out at me the most, so I signed up! :D

I have been readign the tactics bit a fair bit and have got some good advice, just gotta translate them to the battlefield.

From the 4 of us starting to play again, there has been a bit of a buzz go through my extended friendship group, people are buying borrowing and building armies all over the joint! I have to go away for work for a week but will be fighting Dark Elves and Skaven on my return, so Im looking forward to that!

RE: Aussies being on the bottom of the world... we just have to put a little bit of blu-tac on our bses to stop the minis falling off the table and hitting the roof. That said, its fun with the blood always rushing to your head! :P
