Anyone playing X-Wing?
« on: November 10, 2015, 02:06:33 AM »
The Miniatures game?
They have replaced Warhammer for me at the moment.

Quite enjoying it, and a great site online where you can build whatever squad you like for free to tinker with builds.

Not a big fan of star wars but I think xwing looks fantastic, the models are great straight out of the box and I can easily understand the appeal.

The movement part of the game is really entertaining - trying to predict each others positioning. Turrets are OP IMO at the moment, but we shall see how the game progresses.

If only GW were this honest in relation to their design choices...

I play it with my kids and we love it.  Every Month I try to purchase a new model to try out and that fires up the excitement turning it into a weekly night of star wars.

I'm not a huge Star Wars fan but I don't mind a game now and then.  I prefer Armada but not many people around here play it.

I don't know how the game plays. This dial, is it spun before each turn to determine what kind of movement actions you might perform?  :?

Both players choose manoeuvres on their dials,  then these are revealed in order of ascending pilot skill

The starter game is dirt cheap.  Grab one and try it out,  or just find a local game store that has a demo.  It's certainly one of the better designed tabletop games out there.

Does it play similarly to star trek attack wing? The problem I found with that game as a collector is that the models are hopelessly out of scale with each other but xwing seems much better realised

Back in 2013/2014 Star Trek Attack Wing almost replaced Fantasy for me. Yes, the ships are woefully out of scale, but the game was very balanced and a lot of fun. Then wave four came out with Voyager/Borg, and balance went out the window, along with my interest in the game. I still have ships in the case I haven't even opened still sitting in my closet, collecting dust for about two years now.
So, what would you guys do if some dude came at you with a belt that way?
Make sure I've got the safeword memorised.

Thats kinda how i feel about turrets in Xwing. The fun of the dogfight is gone. Maybe as a scenario, but not every game...

X-Wing was thriving at my LGS until recently. Then the new waves came out, the balance disappeared even further, and everyone kind of lost interest.
CannonofDoom spews his shit at me all the time and I haven't banned him.

One problem star trek has that star wars avoids is having to include multiple generations of ships and also the choice to include more fun ships like the bajoran lightship. So you have the ridiculous situation where the (canonically unarmed) lightship can go toe to toe with the latest Klingon battlecruisers.

Thats not entirely true.
I have a feeling a bunch of the new "first order" and "resistance" ships will break the game a bit...
