Looking good. keep on posting as you go, Ostermark is sovery seldom seen that I would like to see more, are you going to do any Ostermark specific units? and forgive my ignorance but what is Ostermark noted for? Looking forward to a reply. Steveb
-
I'm doing a multi-provincional army so I don't know if there will be any place for more Ostermarkers. Still I'm thinking about an Ostermark count.
Cheers,
Chris
-
Me too, units from everywhere, colorful pageantry is not just reserved for those pretentious Brets. None the less an Ostermark army would be very unique, in my experience it is seldom seen. Keep posting. teveb

Stunning banner :icon_eek: How did you do it?? Any WIP pictures please?

Hey it's looking really great 8-)
That KP banner is wonderful!
-
Nice use of the 6th ed spearman shield on your Knights Panther GM/champion :eusa_clap:
-
Stunning banner :icon_eek: How did you do it?? Any WIP pictures please?
Sorry no WIP pics , but it was quite simple. I took a soda can, cut it, bend it , put GS in few stages and than prime it. Freehands are also easy. First paint the main coat than do with base colour for the shape of the panther . Later add eyes, nose and spots. Finally use black paint to make contours. As for the commet start with fairy orange, than add yellow, bleached bone, white.
-
Nice work here. I especially like the Panther banner.
-
Nice work man, I like the freehands. I'm also doing a unite Empire army, every unit is from a different province.
-
Wow, very impressive army thus far. I'm disappointed that it appears I have over looked this thread a couple times. For saying that you are a beginner with the free hand Banner designs, you did really well. I shall wait for the next unit you post.

This panther/cheetah/jaguar cape was one of the hardest thing to do. I tried to make it look as much realistic as I could.

Wow, nice work man! I like your panters.

Hey dude! I love those ogres obalix, asterix and their little doggie getafix, great conversion work, Have you ever seen the real lead asterix miniatures including all the character and Romans? There were two different versions put out, but you did a wonderful conversion. I also loved Herr Hinkledorf with his picklehaub and monocol, makes me want to click my heels and say Jawhol mein Herr. Was the helmet a 54mm bit? or was it scratched? good job, steveb
-
The "Hinkledorf" picklehaub was made from greenstuff and a spear top.
Cheers,
Chris
-
MAN, I LOVE ASTERIX AND OBELIX !!!
Thats an amazing idea.
Wow, I am moved....

Update. First diorama. Gotrex and Felix after a battle with a troll.

Felix is made from a militia man and GS. Gotrex is a deamon slayer with a converted axe.

Ok there's a lot of awesome stuff here but DOGMATIX! :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:

Asterix and Obelix are brilliant! Great work man!

I like how you quartered the sheilds. :icon_cool:
-
Everything is this army is nice, I like the United theme, and how you have tied the bases together so they look like they're from the same army.
However, with the Stirlanders, what makes them Morr followers? And why does the Champion where tiger skin?
I have no problems with it, they look cool, but I was just wandering?
Hooch
-
So my Stirlanders pray to Morr due to battles againts the living dead. They want him to take them back to the underworld. The captain has a tiger cape beacause he is a veteran who fought in Kislev or he has lot of money.
-
Nice conversions on the ogres. Especially like the guy with the monocle. Very nice idea!

And again a couple of great looking models. IMO the best thing is the blending on the orb, just brilliantly done.
-
Middenheim halberdiers. No freehand on the banner, because there were painted earlier than swordsmen or spearmen. They are a bit dusted

I like the royal blue color! :icon_cool:
-
Nice models! Good use of the brettoninan decals. But why do you have halberdiers with a command group? Detachments can't have command groups? :icon_confused:
-
They aren't a detachment. 95% of people use them as detachment, but they can be a parent unit.
-
They aren't a detachment.
I'm not that stupid.
-
But why do you have halberdiers with a command group? Detachments can't have command groups? :icon_confused:
I am stupid and didn't understand the quoted part. Could you explain what did you mean, again?
-
I was being sarcastic and trying to imply that I did not understand why you would field halberdiers as a parent.
-
I'm not that stupid.
Sig, anybody ?
-
Very nice head converting.
-
I was being sarcastic and trying to imply that I did not understand why you would field halberdiers as a parent.
you used the wrong smiley, the frustrated one you used made it look like you were actually serious, you should have used the winking one.
oh yeah! very nice models Chris!

Small update , but since I will have more time maybe I will finish something else from my army. Today nordland mortar.

They look more like Marienburgers :icon_razz:
-
Isn't Marienburg in Nordland?
-
Yeh, but they seceded. It's like saying Altdorf is in Reikland.
Nice blog, like the halbierder unit, especially the champ
-
I use halbadiers as parent units and swords as detachments, I think that they are a neat and nifty unit, screw the stats, they will eventually swing back the other way, aren't we on the 7th version of rules and who know how many faq variations, I will continue to build whatever I like and if someone doesnt like them I will use they count as...greatswords? steveb
-
Today only nuln cannon, btw just to remind You about this thread

I'm still hesitating wether do or not the wood grain on the machines. What do You think people?
-
Yeah dude! Woddgrain is the way to go! How many cannonballs did you use for that pile?
-
The pile is 2*3 + 2*1 from the sticks and 2 single = 10 cannonballs

Little update. Woodgrain and WFB Gandalf.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiice!
I think the horses of your normal knights look better than the GM one, the barding is a bit too drybrushed for my taste. Great job washing the horse legs!

This is awesome !
I truly love this idea !
-
The big friend of the Baron, next to the rifleman. He's wonderful! What model is that? Is it still available?
The whole unit looks good, though it's a bit weird to see them all together - not really a unifying scheme/theme or something =P.
-
I even recognised some of them. :-o
Great Blackadder :-D
-
The big friend of the Baron, next to the rifleman. He's wonderful! What model is that? Is it still available?
Lol. It's a scratchbuild. The legs are from cannon crewman, head of a chaos marauder, the collar, "pants zip" and the uniform are sculpted.
-
These are spectacular. I recognized:
Wallace
Panoramix
the black knight
Mr T
Jack Sparrow
Elvis
And Baron von Munchausen
:eusa_clap:
-
A great idea well-executed!
It's just a shame you had to include evil Mel Gibson...
-
When you think about, there really aren't enough warhammer regiments featuring Elvis, Mr T, The Black Knight, Black Adder, and Baron von Munchausen.
If I may make a small suggestion? Take out the brazier, and convert a miniature of Michael Knight/David Hasselhoff. He's pure 80's cheese, and Germans looooooove David Hasslehof.
-
Hahaha nice and hilarious :icon_lol: I picked out a few as well. That highlander, who I don't recognize, next to Elvis is awesome. How did you do that sash and brooch he has on, and the sword handle? Fantastic work :eusa_clap:
-
Awesome! I like it! When I clicked the thread I expected it to host special characters...
I got the same ones as patsy
-
Hahaha nice and hilarious :icon_lol: I picked out a few as well. That highlander, who I don't recognize, next to Elvis is awesome. How did you do that sash and brooch he has on, and the sword handle? Fantastic work :eusa_clap:
Brooch is GS, kilt GS , pouch on the kilt is from the militia pants and the sword handle is from artilery "cleaning stick".
-
I quite like that idea. Very creative. I also especially like Wallace and the Warrior Bard.
Isn't Marienburg in Nordland?
Yeh, but they seceded. It's like saying Altdorf is in Reikland.
How dare you! Nordland? Those slack-jawed half-wits? Nothing but sniveling dogs and usurpers. I'll have you know that we Endals were a cornerstone of the Empire for many long years, we formed the province of Westerland, a grander province by far then Nordland, the whole of which cannot amount to the splendor of the city of gold.
-
:? who is the hobbit with the huge head, and to not prosent myself as being to lazy to read, who is known as Gustavus?
over all chris your army is brilliant :eusa_clap: Go Blackadder :biggriin:
:::cheers:::
-
:biggriin: lol lol wet my pants steveb
-
:? who is the hobbit with the huge head, and to not prosent myself as being to lazy to read, who is known as Gustavus?
Gustavus is friend of Baron Munchausen (the guy in the middle of the 1 row) .In the movie he has an ability to inhale air and exhale a powerful huracane/tornado/wind.
-
Hey pretty cool idea!
-
Little update. I'm planning to post other miniatures in this log. This mini in-log is called "Enemies of the Empire". Today Orc BSB and remains of Kurt.
Still to go in the Empire : Flagellants, Wolfkins , Greatswords ,Captasus, wizards , characters, KO's and many, many more.

Got bored today, so I painted one of my favourite miniatures. 99,9% of You know this character very well. It's a nice conversion. Hope the paint job is good.

Indeed it's a chaos marauder. The cloak is also marauder one only without the skull and fur. The shield is a standard 20 mm round base, GS, blister pack plastic and paper clip. The spear is a modified marauder knife with GS, mounted on a paper clip.

Well I care for one  I like your models chris. Do not be disheartened if no body posts on your blogs, as it just means its lazyness kicking in :icon_lol: It has happened to me lots of times so I know what I am saying  Once again cool looking models especially this Arabian. Is it a conversion?

Nice job. He used a Bretonnian M@A body.
-
I absolutely love the flagellants, and the arabian is plain awesome.
Sorry about not posting, but the campaign is eating a lot of time...
Keep painting... and THANKS FOR SHARING !
-
What's the plan for the Arab warrior? Are there gonna be more? Very cool.
I like the painting style on the flaggies too, you've managed to make them look a little more grimy looking than me which is cool. Looking forward to seeing them all done.
-
Its great stuff Chris.
Don't be disheartened - often it feels a bit weird just repeating how good you think something looks, but rest assured we love what you are doing.
I think you did a good job on Leonides. I think his abs like a tiny bit too linear, but just great.
I like the Fire Wizard - a bit colourful for me, and not sure about the fire eyes, but I do wonder how you made the body for it?
The Arabian is great - do you have any shots of the front of the body not obstructed by the shield?
For some reason though the sword looks... chunky?
-
I'm planning to do a small warband / border patrol / army of the Arabs. Including a genie, desert riders and archers, but I don't know when I will do it.
The body I used for the swordsman was the first one from left
http://uk.games-workshop.com/bretonnia/getting-started/4/
The mage body is botom half of this old plastic mage

-
 You destroyed one of those great OLD wizards? Man, I want them so bad!
You did something very cool with it though, I look forward to seeing it painted.
-
Believe me that chaos wizard was a poor sculpt. I didn't hesitate to cut him in pieces :icon_wink:

Nah, I love it. It's from the same era as these (http://www.itsmalta.net/archives/miniatures/encounter.jpg). I painted the human fighter of that set, man, it rocked (for those present at the Eurobash and not knowing which model I mean, it was my spearmen sergeant).

Aout the painting: the shading and the rust is awesome.

Metal: Mithril Silver -> Chaos Black wash -> Bestial Brown drybrush -> Fiery Orange drybrush. Simple as that :icon_wink:

To speak with the words of the "great obi":
Nice unit! I like the painting (as usual) and your movement tray.
Keep up the good work!

Looking great- I can't see the details, but I like the colour scheme. The little purple is a nice touch too. Is it the flash or is your preceptor's horse really gold instead of bronze? And where did you get the heads?
-
The heads are KO heads only modified. The perceptor head is a greenstuffed militia head.
-
After hundreds of school tests and eons of white paint I finnaly menaged to finish this unit.
Ladies and gentelman. I'm proud to present... VOLAND'S VENATORS

I hope You like them. Any comments?
Cheers,

-
I dig your conversions and paint scheme. You must tell us how the venators fare in battle.
-
very nice, well done mate! :eusa_clap:
-
I love it! I really like the trim on the barding, great job mate! Have one on Midaski! :::cheers:::
-
great job how long did they take you I especially like the mustache from Voland!
-
They maybe took me about 2-3 weeks 1-2 hours a day. I don't know. I didn't count. The moustache was very easy to do but the GS wasn't very sticky, so I needed a tad more patience.
-
Those are some great looking Venators from scratch.
-
The custom Volands Venators look good, though I don't like the look of the long lances, where you connected 2 different pieces together. I also prefer the look of the original Voland's figures, compared to the empire knights.
Quick question, where are the heads from? I recognize a few as Knights Panther heads, but can't quite deteremine the basis of the others.
-
All heads are from knight sprue except Voland's. It was taken from militia with GS moustache.

Love your army. Only remark would be to thin your paints a bit more; but that's nitpicking...
-
Lovin' your total army, it looks great together! But if I may be so rude- why are you fielding your flaggies 5 wide? Or am I not looking right?
-
whats wrong with fielding flaggies five wide...do they suck five wide?, ive never used them before thats all.
Struecker
-
whats wrong with fielding flaggies five wide...do they suck five wide?, ive never used them before thats all.
Struecker
Because they each have 2 Str5 attacks in the first round, it's best to maximize attacks, thus fielding them 6 or 7 wide.
-
The answer is obvious. It is the only kind of movement tray I have. BTW I have never played Warhammer so I don't care how are they arranged yet.

Ah, that explains it!

Would you like to do the painting job and I do the gaming? I have lots of soldiers willing to be painted and in fear of my great suckiness in painting. :biggriin:
What I want to say great army and you will have lots of fun playing it.
-
I just had to skip ahead and say...that german ogre looks incredibly funny, with the spiked helmet and eye-glass.
Also, the Ostermark swordsmen look fantastic. :eusa_clap:

Hurray! It's update today!

If you got any questions, simply ask.

Thats looking pretty cool. I like the conversion for the Arabs themselves.
-
The TOFP?
Awesome work on the WAR ELEPHANT! Love it! :eusa_clap:
Have you seen the Animostity 3 rules for WAR ELEPHANTS?
I just bought High Elf bowmen to convert to Arabs, now I know I could use Brets! :eusa_wall:
So have you played a game yet? What are your plans for the Arabs? (And their ELEPHANT!!!)

TOFP - Tail of Fantasy Players, a cool thread on Warseer.
No, I haven't seen the animosity rules.
No. I have never played, but soon I will have 2 weeks of free time so it's going to change.
The Arabs can be a DoW/ Empire rules army.
-
Thanks for the answers.
Animosity 3 downloads are here
http://www.freewebs.com/animosity2campaign/animosity3downloads.htm
The rules for the War Elephant are in the Campaign Booklet.
Before I played in Animostiy 3 I used the rules for Ogre Rhinox riders for my DoW Araby army. People have been humoring me and allowing the A3 allies rules for games I've played since the campaign. Actual camel riders! Woot!
:::cheers:::
-
Everything is looking pretty good and your banners look great. Might I suggest though that you thin down your paints a little bit and try more layers. In some spots your paint looks a little globby. Your tiger and Leopard caps are the best!
-
Some progress on the elephant.

I am new at this forum. I have started reading some of the threads. this is the first one with more three pages I am actually going to read to the end ;)
great conversions and great ideas worked out nicely.
P.S. @ Chris: A war elephant is a unit unknown to warhammer.. but a chariot has a base of 50 by 100mm (2by4 25mm bases) giving you the chance of giving it chariot stats and actually use the model if even just for the fun of it... (The model would also fit better on a bit longer base so to see ;))
-
Nice. If you want Arabyans you could always use LOTR Haradrim they come in packs of 24 for like 25 dollars. I use them and they are nice, although a bit smaller than regular humans. But they work out nice and I use them in my army as spearmen.

Plus, if you put them in the Elephant howdah, it'll be harder to tell they are smaller than the WFB models than if they were in a ranked up unit. :-D

Small update. Currently I'm finnishing the painting, but no pics yet ( I want to finish him)

Good job, but I have one problem The crossguard of the sword from the last guy you posted is backwards. Keep up he good work though.

And now something NOBODY expected. I finally finished my DoW Arab War Elephant. ( yeah it should be finished like a month ago or so :icon_mrgreen: )

Woah that elephant is awesome.
Strangely, my favourite is the dead Bretonnian Templar, the battle damage is excellent!
Would love to see some more of your Arabyans!

The base is to bright (Bloodstone and Dark Flesh aren't the same colours).Don't know what to put on it. Maybe a dead guy or some equipment like shields or something. Also I have bad experience with painting over white so I will use decals on the barding, but I haven't decided which ones yet.

Ooooo! Thredomancy!
Anybody remembers me?
Finally back to work ( not counting scouts for WH 40K )

I would appreciate some feedback.

The metallics are just fine and I love the face on the redbeard :eusa_clap:

Daaaamn! The more I see these old Teutogen Guard, the more I wantsss them! Pity they're so damned hard to find these days! How big are they compared to the newer Warriors of Chaos? I just may have a fiendishly heretical idea!

wow,amazing metal
i like them in mass

It really kills em that GW went to the effort to do those fine Tuetogen models and then makes them obsolete within a very short time span. I know they're commonly fielded as greatswords, but it seems a waste to abandon the established fulff for such fine minis.
:closed-eyes:

New project. Ungol horse archers just after stripping. Any ideas for the paint scheme?
-
The traditional red and blue Kislev scheme would be fine, but really any color scheme with nice color harmony and contrast would be good.
-
So the Ungols are now assembled and primed. I will paint them next week or even later.
Now I'm converting Mr.Walter

Interesting idea with the High Elf eagle insignia for a jade griffon.
I look forward to the next installment.

Wheels with GS woodgrain. Not finished yet.

I have to do some little adjustments on the staff and clothing.

First stage: KO WW cape with plasticard. Needs GSing
(http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk301/Krzyek/img_1647.jpg)
Gryphon - seems little unproportional but it will propably look better with wings an GS feathers.
-
I'm very curious to see how this turns out...very cool :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:

The neck looks like it may be a bit too long. Have you made a thumbnail sketch to see what it will look like when done?

the right arm in the 3rd pic is too thick, imho

Well I have spent few hours in Photoshop CS3 Professional to make this. Hope you will recognise my superior drawing talent and imagine my vision of the war altar a.k.a Walter.

i especially like the skin
but highlight the gold

I also like the skin, but you should definitely highlight the gold and shade the horse with one of the washes.
-
as i said^^
-
I dont know if anyones already told you this but I like the skin. You should probably highlight the gold though!!!!!!!!! :biggriin:
Some great ideas shaping up in this army by the way.
-
yeah, and maybe the gold should be highlighted
ps.:cool skin
:D

And now for somehting completely different ...
I like how you used the small round bases and greenstuffed them to look like wooden wheels. :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool:
Awesome idea and thank you for sharing! :::cheers:::

The wings are from the wood elf warhawk rider. Some of you might wonder what about the rest. Don't worry I havn't spend my money to buy a blister just for two wings*. I have an idea how to use the rest of the parts.

I wanted to show time passing by. The stages of life: newborn/baby (pink rose) , teenager/adult (juicy red), adult (red), elder/death (dark red on the other side) and decay (the black rose)

but but but that is much smarter than just putting black roses of Morr on there....so unwarhammer like and therefore fail!

I like the Gold wizard best. The yellow is great, but most of all I like the the red orb and the green bottle which are very well painted.

Sweeeeett! Is that an Ostland champion of some kind? What's the story behind the guy and what's your inspiration?
I had no ideas for the captain until I saw an old plastic knight of the realm, like this one (only with red bulls):
http://www.coolminiornot.com/index/whatm/GW/id/9247
Few minutes of searching through the bits box, assembling, GS, painting. BAM! The captain was made. I think I've captured the essence of Ostland.

Hey Chris, just read through the entire thread having never seem it before. Wow, thanks for sharing all of this over the past two years. It's great seeing so much fun and awesome stuff and it's also so great to see how much you seem to have improved over that time too.
Great work, the two recent wizards are awesome and your GS use is fantastic!

Love that guy on foot

Are you Greenstuffing feathers?
-
Just as written in my last post. Yes I will greenstuff the feathers.
-
Whoops.
I guess its just because I am excited, as I never thought of sculpting the back banner feathers on top of plasticard. So very simple, but somehow it escpaed me.

Very nice work. :::cheers:::

Haven't viewed this thread in awhile. The kislev infantry came out very well, and love the two wizards! The heraldry on the knights sheild is super!
-
Great!! I sure will use some inspriation of these for my own KotBS (metals) I still want to paint.

I have finished my second unit of handgunners.

These guys are done and this means only one thing: more time for the war altar. Pictures soon.

Very good looking shooters! And great job on the banner! Have you painted something on the backside too?

Well not yet  I don't have any good ideas.

Nice to see another pistolier-to-winged-lancer conversion. I must admit, I'm impressed that you're gonna try GSing the wings. That was my original plan but... not gonna happen. I don't have that kind of patience. Can't wait to see yours.
-
I just looked at 9 pages of your awesome work...stunning! I wish I could paint so well! Also I love your conversions especially the Arabians!

Also the axes are a bit shorter now which means the wheels fit the base.

Blazing Sun knights look really sharp.

Of course before posting these pics I didn't noticed few mistakes, but don't worry people, all these errors will be eliminated.
The driver.
Need to get rid off that nasty mould line and fix the robe in few places

Gryphon and the base
GS around the wire for the neck. Feathers next. The base is glued and GSed.

So nice stuff in here and I'm liking the green stuff work you have done :eusa_clap:

:? who is the hobbit with the huge head, and to not prosent myself as being to lazy to read, who is known as Gustavus?
Gustavus is friend of Baron Munchausen (the guy in the middle of the 1 row) .In the movie he has an ability to inhale air and exhale a powerful huracane/tornado/wind.
Great characters! I recognized all of them except for the orange haired Scots dude in the middle. Big fan of Black Adder and the Baron. :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: (Btw, I think I know the origin of Baron Munchausens characters- there's a fairy tale called the Six Comrades with very similar characters.) Well done sir, bravo! This thread deserves two steins! :::cheers::::::cheers:::

Well the orange haired Scots dude is just a Hochland highlander.

Construction phase is almost complete.
Gryphon
The feathers are sculpted to fit the wings. They don't look to good but still better than the ones on the new plastic gryphon from Island of Blood.

Awesome job on the Griffon. Its amazing.
However, the way it is placed in the chariot and the plinth looks a litte bit off, Im sorry to say.
A bit like he stuck a statue in his flat-bed truck and drove off. I certainly dont mean to flame you, and I have great respect for your skills, its some awesome work done on the piece.
-
The griffon is too big!
HAve you thought of placing him purely paralel? problem there I can see is the wing sticking out over the AL.
Or building the pedestal up higher so he really overtowers them?
-
Great job! Though I have to agree his current positioning offends my sense of symmetry...
-
Great job!!! Full of character.
I will also agree on the followings:
- add a pedestal
- stick the griffon facing front on the pedestal over-towering Volkmar
The griffon is stunning, you have done a great job here.
-
Awesome WAltar - love your Volkmar!

A quick question for you aswell...can you describe how you painted the marble effect?

YES!
this is a must please let us know because it looks awesome.
-
A quick question for you aswell...can you describe how you painted the marble effect?
It's very easy. Just use Delvan Mud in different opacity levels on a white basecoat. That's all.

Yay these look very promising. I repeat what Steveb said....more pics please from different angles.

I can imagine this unit looking very cool when finished! Please keep us updated.

Have you glued them to their bases? They would look much better if all of them faced one direction.
-
Have you glued them to their bases? They would look much better if all of them faced one direction.
I disagree. I don't want them to look like rank and file clones. This way they are more dynamic.
-
Those look fantastic.
I do hope I gave you the idea.
-

Yes, dynamic, and poorly trained :P

Yes, dynamic, and poorly trained :P
I agree with patsy.
Rank and file are trained to operate like clones under direction of an officer. All men act under the command and the officer directs the regiment.
This a very disorganised looking regiment.
btw I love the puffy trousers and the golden sun emblem!
-
Forming 'square' to receive a cavalry charge? There was some training for this in the ECW 'London Bands of the New Model Army', but as a hollow square, with your musket detachments moving inside. No idea if it was actually used.
I've seen this type of formation before on pike modelss, and it looks great, but it makes it bloody difficult to form them up close to other troops, or get the charging enemy force in base-to- base!
In the end it comes down to aesthetics or practicality, and which you prefer/are aiming for.
-
Forming 'square' to receive a cavalry charge?
If surrounded, yes, it did occur with pikes before the bayonet came along, but with such a small body of soldiers it would just look futile.
In the end it comes down to aesthetics or practicality, and which you prefer/are aiming for.
By all means, but in my opinion the aethetics is in the hands of practicality.
I'd say you need at least twice as many men to pull this look off without the unit looking uncoordinated.
-
All I'd say is that some of the models need to be turned maybe 45 degrees towards the front of the unit, because at the moment it looks a little like the units prepeared for flank attacks not frontal attacks. All in all though, I think you've done the models great.
-
After a long break I'm back to the hobby. I have finished high school few weeks ago :icon_mrgreen: so now I have more time for painting. Before I finish the estalian pikemen I made the orc from the new archer set (which is very cool by the way). Just a bit of training to recall how to paint. :icon_wink:

really cool :icon_cool:
Does he come in that pose or have you converted him?
fbjorn
-
It's the one from the archers kit right?
-
I made the orc from the new archer set
I really like the pose... for a human. A race that can sow an arm back and it grows back to place... well I think Orcs aren't that dramatic about their injuries as us hummies... (although .. if I was an orc and not willing to fight... this looks like a way to get out of it. Sneaky.. like a weedy grot)
@chris: welcome back. :::cheers::: Looking forward to see this blog going again. and of course.. congrats with finishing high school!!

Nice job so far go for it

I'm going red with yellow accents.

Sorry for threadomancy, but I've come back, at least I'm trying. Here is a freebie warrior priest (you get 1 spare torso from the greatswords set and 1 pair of additional legs from the archer set). He is already painted but I must finish the base. I'll try to upload the finished guy in a few hours. For now wip pics.
Edit: finished pics.

Looks good to me! :eusa_clap:
-
looks great! having just one looking okay is the toughest challenge. you passed with flying colors. once you have a good size unit it'll be even better.
I wonder if there is something for the little cross bar you could use instead of sprue. that looks the part for the vertical part but some details would be nice on the horizontal piece. I guess, when in doubt, use a skull. but there must be a better solution.
-
the use of hot water, or candle heat will allow you to bend a bar or rod of plastic to shape, into a wings curve or arc at the top. however that being said, your style works quite well. steveb
-
Like that Chris, may have to copy that.
Is it just plastic Pistolier with lance from Empire cavalry.
-
I would consider making a simple mold for those wings. If you made a single-sided master on a piece of plasticard, you could pour a silicone mold and then cast up as many as you need, joining them together back-to-back to make double-sided wings.
You could also miss out the central support and use a piece of bent brass rod on the model - just cast up the feathers themselves.
-
Or
http://maxmini.eu/hussar-wings-bits
-
The wing on the Gryphon legionnaire looks outstanding.
-
Agreed, it looks good. Producing N of them seems like a pain though. Also, you practically have to bolt and weld hussar wings on if you want them to stick. They have a high rate of transport attrition.

Really, really well done.

the champion and his cape in particular are my favorite part.

Great job with Von Raukov, is that the original horse?
It's a regular plastic horse with a metal head and tail from a 6-7th edition chaos knight. I guess back in the day a skull or spikes equalled to chaos

That horse head is badass

One of the best Von Raukov models, that I've ever seen. Howeve you left the 8-pointed star on horse's head. :biggriin:

Lovely Marius. Such a nice sculpt and paint job. Purple and yellow with the white hair are very fitting.

agreed. there is always the danger of accidentally "going christmas" with Hochland but that did not happen here. Enough browns really help. And I am happy to see some rank-n-file after all the fancy highborn counts. :eusa_clap:

Nice unit of archers!
I don't know if the photos eat up contrast, but I think a little bit more could be done with shadows and highlights, especially with the fluffy red and white sleeves. They dominate the figures because they are the most colourful spots, so any extra work would likely immediately pay out. Just a suggestion.
Gotta love the few live Empire projects still going strong here. Keep the good stuff coming! :)

The black soot at the front looks great - not sure why we dont see that more.
The High Elf chariot wheels work well - better than I expected.

Love the wood grain.

Because gunners don't have to march all the time or do silly exercising. They have time to polish there pride and joy, the piece they are connected with, their primary piece of equipment.
That's why most cannon most definitly will not look like this.
The interpretation of the artist of this piece, I guess, is a piece that has seen constant action for days. I cannot think of any other reason a cannon would be that filthy by any soldiers standard. :closed-eyes:
@Chris:
First: Woodgrain is something I never attempted. I truly love what you did there.
Second: Go counter natural in thinking.... you did alot of effort on the woodgrain... but a cannon that used at the barrel and dirty overthere and so clean on the rest of the piece.... grime the chassis of the cannon a bit more would be my advise.
Cheers,
Henerius

As you can see the models have magnetized parts. I have also changed the grim reaper scarecrow for a real banner and the silly T hammer for a more realistic one. Hope you like it.

Excellent work fellow Reiklander !

Magnetizing is always cool. Im impressed how you hand jammed the flag too.

Very nice flag.
The black soot at the front looks great - not sure why we dont see that more.
It looks good, but I'm not sure it makes sense. Would that much of the gun away from the muzzle be covered in... discharge residue?
-
Probably yeah, if fired enough in one battle. You can get a lot of carbon build up on guns, with even modern smokeless powder. However I would think that other parts of the gun and crews hands and faces would be grimy too.
-
Wow, that's a diligent job of magnetizing and allowing your general and captain to use all of their weapons! :eusa_clap:
But now I'm afraid you won't paint ten generals & captains more...

It's a nice piece. I especially like the new crew. You could probably increase the looks of the mortar wheels by painting the smooth surface a dirty/rusty metal.

Agree. Too smooth. Needs to be metal or painted dirty. Otherwise nice tidy up!

Alas, your painting skills are wasted on the KF model. In my view, "Prince Carnival" ranks amongst the most hideous GW models ever.

Empire artillery, now with bases. I have replaced the wheels on the mortar and cannon, and repainted the helblaster volley gun. Also, I have acquired the classic models.

Great job on these! The horses look very natural.

Nice unit. Good use of the captain/general legs.

Well done, classic stuff. Wasn't Gormann the patriarch of the College of Magic before Gelt won the contest to be patriarch?

Hmmm ... I can't recall.

Am I the only one who likes the simpleness of the classic models?
-
Love the banner swap on the classic Ludwig Schwarzhelm, the old lead pole was so flimsy, and would bend out of shape so easy when travelling.
-
Great job. Its always good to see a classic
-
The painting on that standard is superb!

Very fancy priests, my respect
-
Nice!
Warrior priests are my favorite in the Empire model range. Probably have around ten of them, and Luthor of course. I just cannot seem to justify taking them in my lists, so I mostly use the models to spice my Flagellant units. What are you going to do with four of them?

What are you going to do with four of them?
Put them on a shelf. I don't play and focus only on the painting and modeling.
