Does ebay really charge 11% fee on stuff you sell?

I am finally getting round to going on there to sell a few warhammer bits and bobs and I want to know what I'm getting into. Only ever bought on there...

Yeah you have to pay the tithe, I always try and sell stuff on here, Bugmans, or Bartertown first to avoid it but sometimes you just have little other choice.

Thanks SOF, just wanted to make sure I wasn't misreading or some such...

I might have another go on the forums first and if I get no joy, bite the bullet and brave ebay!

You get 50 free auction-style listings (which can have a "Buy It Now" option too on there) a month. You do not get charged an insertion fee for those. If you JUST do a Buy It Now, it has an insertion fee. If you list it in multiple categories or have special features (they offer the gallery for free - so you get 12 pics as standard) there are additional insertion fees.

But, in general, you can list it for free.

When you sell it, you will be charged;

9% of the total value of the sale
and 9% of the amount you charged for shipping.

Pay attention to the last one! They calculate shipping for you, but do not include the extra 9% in there. So, you may wish to put in a "handling charge" for certain things or just be aware of it. Alternatively, you can over-estimate the weight of the item.

PayPal also takes its pound of flesh; they want 2.9% plus 30c (in the USA).

So, the final calculation to work out your profit is;

( (Final Value + Shipping Charge) x 0.881 ) - ($0.30 + actual cost of shipping)

I strongly recommend the use of an online printing service for the shipping - eBay has one linked to their site, or Stamps.com is very good too (I use that for work as well, and is a really easy interface). Online shipping is cheaper than buying it at the store, and you can get tracking and insurance right there. You can also pay the eBay service directly with PayPal.

If you charge them based on the Post Office price, which eBay does by default when you give the weight in your item's setup, then buy your postage online you get a discount on the shipping, at least the USPS gives a discount. So that will cover part of the expense. You do need to have a good scale to weigh your stuff properly though. You are getting about a 10% discount by purchasing it online so it works out.

What a fine theme... :roll:

I don't get the theme.

You do need to have a good scale to weigh your stuff properly though.

I have a very fine postal scale at work, which works excellently (in 1/10 oz increments, no less) - but you can get adequate results with a simple kitchen scale. I like to add an oz or two onto the weight of something below 1lb, just to be sure, and the weight of anything over 13oz only needs to be done to the nearest lb because that is how Priority Mail is calculated (in lb ranges, rather that ounces).

If you get no bids on your auction, surely you re-list it at a lower starting price? Or possibly the same.

Something I forgot to bid on has been re-listed with a higher price.  :icon_confused:

So I understand the contents are likely fine but this is really pushing the 'mint sealed in blister'......

Though it has given me the idea of putting a dinner mint in a taped shut blister.....

No, not relay. Neither "mint" nor "sealed." False listing.

I like your idea about the mint, though.

I think it's a great looking STank, and a lot of people can't paint well (or at all.) Plus it includes the price of the STank kit too. I don't think it's a crazy price, if they can find the buyer.

On the other hand I could nitpick about a few things... the big one that kills it for me is the big, gaping seam at the front. (This is admittedly maybe just my own personal preference.) I realize that the ad says that the side panel is removable so you can see the inner details, but... how often do you want to do that? And is it worth ruining the exterior appearance to allow viewing of the interior?

Granted, postage is free...  :unsure:

I've been shopping for an old Marauder giant recently (found one) so I've been peeking at anything with "giant" in the title a few times. Hence the rat, above. And...

"giant"(?) rat.... wtf?    a dwarf would stand on it ...lol
Then make three times that. It should be enough for half the roof Glue

Do the math on the scale of that thing - it's on a 20mm base which means that rat is at least 10mm long (not including tail; I've seen those models before).

A 28mm figure represents an average height man (call it 5'6") - 2.357" per mm in scale. That rat is 23.57" long - about two feet! That's a big freaking rat.

It wasn't so much the size of the rat as the size of the price for one, single rat.
