Death Guard project - Typhus
« on: July 23, 2018, 01:05:27 PM »
So with my 3000 point knight army coming to an end (only one thing left to paint) I am searching for my next army.  I settled on Death Guard since I have always loved the fluff for the Apostles of Contagion from the Seige of Vraks.

Here are the test models I tried to get a feel for the army:

I will do a little more weathering I think to the bronze, maybe some verdigris.

I love it. You've pulled off the rusted stuff really well, and the tentacles give me the creeps. Are you planning about the same size for these guys?

Oh dear! GrillyP has entered the 40K via the Warp and have talen to worshipping Nurgle!  :icon_eek:

First he undermined Sigmars Holy Inquisitorial Tabernacle and now he is going for Terra!

Mathi must brave the warp and try to prevent further perversions from taking place!
Oh, and remember GW made it personal, not you!

Indeed. For a split second I was hoping to see a 30K DG army, but these look great... in a horrible sort of way. :-P

Really nice.

Good use of inks and subtle highlights. Really pops. My only thing would be the base looks entirely to healthy and vibrant to be near that plague monster! Its the summer meadow static grass. You want to get some brown static grass for it.

There are 40 different shades of black, so many fortresses and ways to attack.

So why you complaining!

Yeah, I’m struggling a bit with that.  I based them the same as my other five armies, which matches our gaming terrain and tables.  It came down to a more appropriate base to the style, a partially corrupted base, or a fully themed corrupted base.  I went straight to matching base so they look good against my table!

Thanks Stealth.  I just ordered three blight haulers, two more crawlers, mortarion, death shrouds, a purifier, and a blight spawn.  Should wrap up all the modes I’ll need.  I have 80 pox walkers, 49 more marines, 2 more drones and a pair of rhinos already here.

Wow 80 pox walkers. My hand cramps just thinking about it.

My buddy playing deathguard has 14 plague marines and 20 pox walkers and keeps saying he thinks that's a large enough army.

You likely only need 14 marines.  They are tough but have all the teeth on normal marines IE none...

Pox walkers and demonic vehicles are where it’s at.

they look really good.

Guy that one the BAO had 10 terminators in his DG list. Thinking of doing any? I've always struggled to kill them when I've faced them and they have good damage output, if they can catch you.

SO quick question, do people think the skulls on the front of the crawler would look better in gold rather than actual skulls?

As they are, as skulls, for me. Or maybe do them as verdigris cooper, using the technical paint. It needs not to be gold, as it’ll not make the detail stand out.

I like the current skull color myself. I think gold might blend in a bit to much with all the bronze metal already.

40 Pox walkers and three plagueburst crawlers all wrapped up!  I am at 2000 points with this army in about a month of work.

The pox walkers came to me painted... terribly.  I painted over about 80% of the models to clean them up.  I love the look.

The crawlers are in order, left to right, with when I painted them.  I tried a new rust style by the time I did the second and third one.  The rust is paint rather than pigment.  pigment rubs off, the paint doesnt!  I think I have narrowed down the verdigris as well.  It took me some time to figure out.
