New Imperial Knight army - Helverins finished
« on: June 28, 2018, 01:28:33 PM »
I did a quick test paint for my knight army.  I like the style, but it needs decals and weathering.  I have painted 9 full sized knights (I made a bit of a business out of commission knight production!) so moving to the 6 I have ready to go will be nice.  I never did a single unified color scheme.  I think this will work fine.  Yellow can be a headache but this is doable when broken up with reddish/orange and black.

Paint job took about 4 hours so the time is right.  I estimate another 2 in weathering and basing plus decals.  Big knights should come in at around 10 hours, which is where I was with the ones I was painting on commission.

Well that looks freaking awesome. The yellow is fantastic. Can't wait to see it after the weathering.

With that new box being such good value, have you considered reviving your business?

No, I sort of found those knights petered out a bit!  Funny enough, I also have so many of my own projects that the money I get from pumping out knights doesn't really hold up to the time required to build and paint them!

I am finishing my Valiant today and basing it.  So I have a Warden, a Valiant, and an Armiger.  I will crank out a Gallant over the next couple days so I can try these guys out this weekend.

My Warden.  I went heavy on the orangish red.  The Valiant has a large amount of black.  I am looking to unify the models while still giving each a distinct look.

I think they look great. How long does it take you to finish a knight from total start to finish? With the length it takes me to finish a basic trooper I figure it'll take most of a month for me to finish a knight.

I'd say about 4 hours assembly (they are heavily magnetized) and roughly 13-15 hours to fully paint and base.  Considering the 10 Flashgitz I finished ran me about 30 hours from assembly to fully painted, its not a bad pace.

I find these big models actually paint up very quickly.  They are comparatively uncomplicated, with much of the detail being done with transfers and very simple shading. Small models with lots of bitz and bobs are much more difficult to get right and work with.  I will have my full army of 4 armigers, 3 questoris, and 2 dominus knights done by August I think.  A full army wrapped up!

Thank you!  I just finished my Valiant, Barron Philip the V, Lord of the Black Gate.  On to the Gallant next!

Beautiful looking knight!

Time to finish isn't that bad either actually. I was expecting longer. like you say to, comparing it to a squad makes it seem pretty reasonable.

Finished my Gallant.  He was fabulous in the game I played yesterday, which was an absolute blood bath!!

Here is my inspiration for the arm, Classic 90’s GW:

A couple snaps from yesterday:

The finished gallant (yesterday’s was only partially done.)

Looks great.
A tiny criticism would be the scroll on this chest needs a little more definition around the end edges, maybe a thin ink, and a highlight to edges, in rakarth flesh.

Looking forward to the armigers

Yes!  Totally agree!  I noticed a couple other things as well after I took pictures.  You know how it is, sometimes you miss the slip ups until you see them on camera!  I didn’t finish washing the top guns or meltas and there is an incomplete highlight on the plasma glow effect!

Totally know what you mean with the pictures. I hate doing proper pictures with camera as it shows up all the little bits you miss and is very unforgiving. You think you’ve done a great job then, boom, picture makes you think otherwise.

How have you been doing you’re OLS? It looks really good. I’ve been meaning to try it recently, but have been concentrating on smashing out models rather than learning new techniques.
