It was a steaming pile of shit. The storybook elements of the source material really clashed with the film's attempt at being grimdark.

EG, the fir-trees scene. In the book, it had a sense of black humor - the dwarves had been treed and the goblins were singing and taunting them. In the movie the trees were falling into a ravine while burning while Thorin was dueling the orc who killed his dad.

The movie was made for hummingbirds. There was always 500 things going on at once.

Well...I kind of enjoyed it about the same as Lord of the Rings Hollywoodish joy ride.

It wasnīt deep though.

It was a kid's movie based on a kid's book, adapted for today's kids. It was silly fun for kids, wouldn't call it shit.

A kids' movie would have been fine. But they were also trying to recreate the LOTR films. The darker elements really clashed with the source material. EG, it's pretty hard to imagine the film's Byronic take on Thorin surrendering to the the trolls.

The Dol Guldur stuff was stupid. It made me feel like I was watching two movies at once.

it is a kids book. The trolls are called ernie and bert for gods sake. But they tried to make it too much like the lotr films. The hobbit book is very unlike the lotr books.

I think it's a bit dismissive to call it a kid's book.

I don't mean it in a dismissive way, and I love it.

but it is certainly aimed at kids to a greater extent than LotR.
Remember he made up the hobbit as a story for his kids!

Sure. It's not exactly lightweight though. It's quite depressing in places!

My seven year old is reading it,  it's a kids book.

The movie is sort of ... meh!   I didn't outright hate it though.

I had a lot of books as a kid that ranged from depressing to pure nightmare fuel: Rose Blanche, St George and the Dragon, Outside Over There, One Stormy Night...

My dad had this huge hardbound book of kids' stories from the 20's that had some pretty intense stuff: like a really anti-Catholic story where a bishop is eaten alive by rats for his sins.

I didn't hate it either.  It just wasn't a good movie.  The special effects were fine, but there was so much garbage that was poorly done.  It really felt like a virtual 3D theme park ride.  And a stupid one at that.

Well, it's like Pratchett said in one of his books: kids don't mind blood in their stories at all, if it is shed by the deserving!

My Grandmother died yesterday morning. She was a tough old lady and would never give up. Three years ago the doctors said she had three to six months to live and while she always said she would live to one hundred she didn't quite make it but damn did that stubborn woman get close.

Connor Barwin (Eagles new LB) says he wouldn't care if he had a gay team mate.

eagles fan says
"Someone else's sexual orientation is not my business.  But with that being said I wouldn't want to be on a team with a gay guy. I think its disgusting and I don't agree with it.

I am sick of athletes trying to be politically correct by saying the "right things".  What happened to the Charles Barkley/Tim Hardaway's of the world that spoke their true feelings and didn't give a damn about the backlash.  We live in a scary world where homosexuality has become "normal" and speaking against it gets you in trouble."

Thats racist....oh no wrong thread.

We live in a political correct world which is nonsense as nobody is ever political correct we just learn that we canīt speak our mind so we basically have lost our right to free speech over political correctness.

That said I donīt think that being gay is already seen as "normal" but it should be and sexual orientation shouldnīt be anybodies business.
