It was a steaming pile of shit. The storybook elements of the source material really clashed with the film's attempt at being grimdark.
EG, the fir-trees scene. In the book, it had a sense of black humor - the dwarves had been treed and the goblins were singing and taunting them. In the movie the trees were falling into a ravine while burning while Thorin was dueling the orc who killed his dad.
The movie was made for hummingbirds. There was always 500 things going on at once.
