Gah, that's rough Sig.

Here's my own tale of woe. A few days ago I was on my way to my local card shop to buy more Bretonnian figures, I get into a car wreck.

I'm fine and nobody's hurt but the van got smashed up. The real kicker is that the guy who pulled out in front of me didn't have his ID (used his girlfriend's), had run a red light and had his 2 or so year old son in the backseat without a carrier for him. The cops just ignore it all.

Also, in the middle of a 105 degree heat wave and finding it hard to work on any sketches.

Damn, I'll take the $71.

Around here at least he'd get arrested and lose his license, fined etc. The child thing not being in a restraint is what would do it. Unlikely he'd go to jail though.

Yeah, my lack of sketches is going to be hell on everyone.

Seriously though, I don't even think he had a license or even insurance. He was quick to say he would pay for damages instead of going to court and he practically hid behind his girlfriend when the cops started asking questions.

Though the cops turned a blind eye, the people in the area were a Godsend as they came rushing to help out and give thanks to the Lord that we all lived.

Yeah, the policeman said as much when he was giving me the fine. State government policy to make police visible so it looks like they've boosted numbers and are "tough on crime".

Hah, he was quite friendly. There's a CCTV camera watching him and he has to do his job. It's the government he's pissed off at.

Oh indeed, I'm fine as well as the boy and that's what really counts. Well, that and the deadbeat keeps his end of the deal to pay for my van being fixed. I wouldn't put it past him to try and weasel out of it.

My prayers go out to the boy though. We don't choose our fathers and that can be a real tragedy.

Thank you. I hope they will. Reminds me that in Poland for a stunt like that, he'd probably "only" lose his driving license and that's that. The best thing is most of the time people travel to Czech Republic or Ukraine to buy (and it's legal!) thei licenses so he'd probably be back on the road in no time.
