We're busy with the fulfillment of the first Halfmen KS, but the work on the 2nd (breakfast) has already started.
Anyway - here's the very first finished miniature from this new KS. Robin Halfhood, King of poachers and fearsome leader of the Schunkelwald scouts.
I hope you like him as much as I do. :-)

Oh! Fantastic! :::cheers:::
-
That is simply an amazing miniature.
-
Brilliant - are you bringing him to Salute so we can see him 'live' :engel:
-
Wow! I love the tunic laces detail! That's fantastic!
-
awww yeahhhh
-
I like him!
Will there be a sheriff and his men or half men?
-
sweet

Life kept me busy, but I really wanted to get an update done.
Here's a first set of 3 peasants. (the bloke with the staff now hass a little bras ball on it).

When's the planned release? Im taking a month off work in July.

July/August. I'll announce it well ahead of time.
-
Those figures are looking very good!
How are things coming with the first Halfmen kickstarter?
-
Beautiful models!!
-
WooHoo!
My Halflings (Pugnacious First Wave ones) turned up yesterday while I was out at work - just about to open the box and survey the goodies ........... :biggriin:
-
I'm presuming that these are all currently on hold, yet looking forward to seeing how they are taking shape, too.
-
As I posted above, I already have my order, and I had not noticed a problem.
However No1son was here over the weekend and I had ordered some extras for him to use in Frostgrave, and so we had a closer look at the Swords 2 figure in question.
I have 2 of them and one is fine, the other has almost a perfect semi-circle cut-out on the edge of his kettle helmet where the sword blade almost touches the helmet.
You do have to look closely to see it, and I checked them all over lovingly when they arrived and missed it.
So well done to Kawe for spotting it and putting the wheels in motion - is it still spinning with resin? :closed-eyes: - and making sure people get a perfect figure.
I have messaged with him, and he mentioned that he was going to make sure our WE members get sorted out a s a priority.
I had decided to treat mine as battle damage anyway ................................ :engel:
-
My order hasn't arrived yet, but I'm in the US.
-
I don't think Finlay has his yet either and he's in the UK ........................
.................... well if Exeter counts as being in the UK, rather than the back of beyond. :engel:
I joined the Oathsworn Sensible Shoes KS earlier in the year, and interestingly I think they sent abroad first and the UK orders went out last - maybe it was planned so everyone got theirs at almost the same time?
-
Shouldn't take too long from here. Feel free to send a mail to Ros@westfaliaminiatures.com - she sorts the parcels. :-)
-
Mine arrived yesterday, if you didn't see the pile of resin in the other thread.
Lovely stuff! Now what do I paint first...
-
My models arrived on Tuesday. Thanks! :::cheers:::
-
That's great - just as long as us Brits are ok, we won't worry about GP ..................................... :engel:
-
Even GP isn't worried about GP! :icon_wink: :icon_lol:

Westfalia is!

Well thank you sir, you're a scholar and a gentleman, yet at the same time there is really no rush for me. :::cheers:::
I could be the last one to get them, and I'd still be happy. :icon_biggrin:

In that case, if GP is ahead of me in the shipping list, I'll take his spot. :engel:
-
And I yield to the superior painter. :::cheers:::
-
C'mon, don't be like that. Now I'm going to feel bad.

Well, that was quick. Thanks Westfalia & GP.
Not sure which postal service (if not both) has trouble understanding "fragile" but I'm hoping the contents survived better than the box. On my way out the door, unpacking to happen shortly (heh heh... hobbit joke...) when I return.
-
Cool, and congrats! :icon_biggrin: :::cheers:::
Maybe my package will be waiting for me when I get home.
-
Figures survived just fine.
I had been so fixated on working out regiments for gaming, I think I let the "extras" slip from my mind -- the free figures and add-ons I bought. In fact, I may paint a few of those up first, for fun, before getting down to the serious business of regiments. Great figures all around.
-
I've soaped up 5 halberds, a command group and one goat knight. hoping to clean and assemble tonight, to paint tomorrow.
Any hints for basing them? I want them to be on grass really, but not horrendous green flock like the olden days.
I'm wondering about a GW mud texture paint on the bottom, with grass tufts and static grass on the top.
-
That sounds like a good basing plan. Maybe make the soil a nice rich brown.
Anyone have advice for straightening bent spears? Warm them up in hot water?
-
I have been using Polyfila for pretty much everything recently: it's naturally white for snow on Frostgrave figures.
It will mix with paint to make other colours, or you can just base paint it.
It makes good looking earth painted brown, or sandy desert for pirates painted light brown/yellow.
.....and a ready mixed tub goes forever and is much cheaper than GW speciality paints.
.... and the dried tea bag leaves stick nicely too.
Anyone have advice for straightening bent spears? Warm them up in hot water?
I have been making some TSS resin buildings which are pretty poor actually - panels are ropey castings, and they were quite bent and bowed.
It took boiling water in an ice cream tub, and then a weight on top to get them reasonably straight, and then there has been a lot of polyfilla filling gaps and holes.
I have used smaller containers and hot water to straighten stuff on figures, but you have to be gentle, and I find it best to prepare a way of lying the spear flat, and using some form of weight to press it straight - which can be tricky on some models.
I end up with convoluted support systems of blister sponges and lolly (popsickle) sticks. :engel:
-

yeh i've barely worked with resin. Aside from a very few small bubbles and alittle bit of flash, the bent spears are what i'm struggling with

That's what I've seen. Pretty clean and shouldn't take much prep.... except for the spears. I'm wondering if it would actually be less work/hassle just replacing the spear & halberd shafts with brass wire. I will have to take a closer look at them later tonight and see wheter that would be too fiddley for my sausage fingers.
-
Spraying your hobbits silver because they're covered in plate mail \m/
diagonal or horizontal slotta bases?
-
I still haven't even decided whether I'm using individual or group bases...
Looks like the spear and halberd heads can't be easily replaced with wire -- they are about the same diameter at the "collar" where they are mounted on the shaft. So I'm going back to trying to straighten them.
-
I went for the patented "fudge it, it will be fine" method. no one will notice when i've got 200 halflings on the table!
-
If you have 200 halfmen on a table ... :icon_eek: ... someone will notice the 200 halfmen! :icon_biggrin:
-
Re spears - they can be straightened under warm water!
Re basing: I have a small skirmish force of about 30 models on 25mm round bases, and the rest on classic rectangualr 20x20 bases. I might actually rebase them next year as I am really not playing any Warhammer anymore, and I always prefered multi bases anyway.
-
I've got to finish some other stuff before getting myself immersed in the halfling project. But I'm still feeling the pull of the figures.... so I'm going to paint up some of the "extras." I just prepped a steppe goblin and some kobolds :-D and I'm wondering....
I always scrub resin figures with soap and a brush to remove any mold release -- especially in case it's oil based. But on a ton of tiny figures... that's going to be a drag. What's anyone else's insight on these particular castings? Think a quick soak & rinse is OK?
-
I tend towards soapy water and leaving the figures in all day or over night. I did this with the first five halfmen received as a test further back, primed them in white and painted flesh, and they seem to be holding out ok with no issues. They'll probably be the first figures I return to when begin doing more of this project, but it is awfully tempting to do other figures, and I like the idea of doing some of the "extras" first as well.
-
I see "Second Breakfast" has been announced ................. Nov 25th - that's so far away ...................... :engel:
-
Not far enough for me. I just had to replace our stove and sunk a ton of money into my car. And Christmas is coming up soon.
"Sorry, dear, looks like Santa's elves didn't get to your presents this year. But, oooh, look at all the hobbits they cast up for daddy!" :engel:
-
WIP kobolds.

I am painting the stuff for the next KS. There's no chance for me to finish in time, but I am trying!
I am really happy how the new artillery set has turned out however, and I might even paint a couple of peasants to add to the crew later.

Those look fantastic!
-
Incredible! Your picture taking is fantastic. That giant is great and the goat rider and all the rest!
-
I really like the simple style of these! Bring on the newest artillery and more!
Opened up the remaining figures of the box I recently received after the last kickstarter for the halfmen, and I got so pysched to do some of these guys. I've got a lot going on between now and the end of the year with professional and personal matters, but really looking forward to doing my halfmen project. Thank you so much for making such excellent figures!

early bird "the light wing"- done!

(leaving the artillery to the dwarves)
Thanks! The Halfling artillery was a request from the Kings of War folks. They rrally helped the last campaign, so I think it's fair t give them the guns and the bloke with the long rifle.
-
I still don't understand what is in the Collectors Deal???
The wording says "every miniature in the Add-on list" - does that mean buildings - it isn't clear?
Does it also mean only 3 merry Halfmen rather than the 9 with the pledge on its' own or in the Ambush pledge.
I really like the buildings, and I want full sets of the figures.
So don't know whether to buy the Ambush and the Village at £80 + £100 = £180.00
or
The Collectors at £160 and 2 x Add-Ons of 3x Merry Halfmen at £18 = £178.00
-
I love the buildings but just feeling a bit of pinch at the moment. You'll have to bring yours to Belgium mids!

they're lovely sculpts. Just got to leave something for their bearded bros :P

Same here. Going to add on a few extras when I get more time, later.
-
Probably going to go with the Ambush force, and then add on the buildings, but we'll see. Maybe some extra figures and extra artillery, too!
-
Thanks for your support!

Yes - every mini and every buiding. And yes exactly it means 3 merry Halfmen. You could always pledge for the all in and just add 2 packs of scouts with the pledge manager. (pledge needs to be upped accordingly)
-
I discovered that you cannot make 2 Pledges.
I was going for the Ambush and the Early Bird Village and KS would not let me add the two different pledges together. I suppose I could have created a second identity - but too much hassle.
There are only the 3 Merry Halfmen figures so I will live with them and then get more later if needed.
-
You can use the pledge manager to add on additional figures. You just have to manually change your total pledge amount to equal what you request/calculate in the pledge manager.

Yes I understood that:
It just so happened that the Village Early Bird was £95 and the Ambush was £80 which gave me a package combination of £175.00 which was in my opinion better than the Collectors Deal because it had 9 Merry Halfmen instead of 3.
The Early Bird deals are not in the Pledge Manager.
I was trying to be cute and get the optimum deal.
-
Whatever suits you best. :--)
-
Ah, ok, sorry. I thought we were having a "grandpa can't figure out the television remote" moment. :engel:
I usually avoid Kickstarter because I don't have the patience to sort out the more complex pledge schemes, so I may have just been projecting my own problems...
-
Ah, ok, sorry. I thought we were having a "grandpa can't figure out the television remote" moment. :engel:
I have those regularly, :biggriin: but not this time - there was a lady in the comments of the KS who was trying the same thing and she couldn't manage it either.
I did recently do two orders for the Frostgrave Barbarians 'Nickstarter' on the basis that they would both qualify for the freebie rewards as Stretch Goals were passed.
[I did run my intentions past the boss man first and he ok'd it, suggesting his minions would not spot the link anyway. Well his minions were better than he thought :biggriin: but he honoured the deal and I got a second set of the freebies (for No1son)]
-
I really like the NS Barbarians and Cultists quite a bit. Not too fond of certain details, but they're great minis suitable for adventures and wargaming. They inspired me to get my first hard plastic project started btw. :--)
Oh and - I am really trying hard with freebies, but I guess its all a bit random.
-
OK, so now I'm confused (see, it IS me that can't work the remote...) I got in on an early bird pledge, but want to add a few more things in the pledge manager. But the early bird pledges aren't an option there. How do we add on, and if we revise our KS pledge do we lose that early bird pricing? :?
They inspired me to get my first hard plastic project started btw. :--)
 Ooooooh. Curious...
-
I think you just edit the pledge price to include the addons, and maintain the early bird pricing on the pledge manager?
-

They somehow haven't made it in there.
-
So when I use the pledge manager, should I select the regular light wing plus my add-ons, then when I revise the Kickstarter pledge just subtract the difference between the regular light wing price and the early bird price? That seemed to make sense to me, but I don't want to screw up your accounting with KS.
-
exactly :--)
-
I was just worried that my payment for a bunch of halflings would look.... a little short. :icon_lol:
:icon_redface: (sorry....)
-

Lots of people get their payments wrong, but noone EVER over paid. :--)
-
Luckily Mrs Westfalia is a lot more organised and efficient than certain people ................... :engel: and she sorts out the 'details'
-
Amen to that - I think I'd stop Westfalia all together without her being in the trenches.
-
If we add Goat Sergeants in now via the Pledge Manager will that mean the money is taken for them along with the pledge cost by KS?
In fact does that apply to any add-ons?
Previously I added stuff after the main KS had finished and pledges had been taken, and so sent extra by Paypal - which is best for you?
-
I'm afraid the pledges have to be modified on the KS page.
We always contact backers with fuzzy pledges after the KS is over.
Well, Rosa does. :--)
Note: I need to fix that PM - I hope to include a Paypal check out, but that's sursprisingly hard work...
-
Hi Westfalia ... my understanding is today, Dec 8th, was the last day to pledge, but when I went on to the site to make my pledge, it wouldn't allow me to pledge. Is it still possible to make a pledge :icon_question:

I added on the pledge manager but messed up my payment! Ros emailed me about it, will resolve now.

I should've mentioned that earlier!

Wait, what should I do?
-
my light goat and rangers arrived.
They look lovely.
Need to get some painting on!
-
Wait - you before me!!!!!!!!!!! :icon_evil:
What number were you?
-
no idea, I only had a small order. 5 goat knights and 10 rangers.
Regretted not getting the whole building set but I think the kstarter came in a month I was a bit shorter.
Would be the set up for any fantasy skirmish games Matt might want to play with me!
They look great, 2 things are slowing me down painting- 1, I hate the resin washing and clean up. 2, I can't decide how to base them.
-
Goblin Green and static grass :closed-eyes:
The oldies are the best and it is the Shires ................... :engel:
-
Next you'll be telling me to paint my bolters red and yellow
::heretic::
-
Crossbows don't look good in red and yellow, although maybe the bolts will. :icon_wink:
-
That's 40k anyway. WFB was all red weapons. And shields. Any anything made if wood. And sometimes the armor too.
-
Anyone else had their orders yet?
Sounds like the two casting problems were resolved and orders were being packed.
Kawe talks of a "deadline" in comments on the KS, but the 'September 2017' forecast means it could be the 1st or the 30th :engel:
-
some of the capes on my order were pretty bubbly fwiw, but i dont care enough to buy any liquid green stuff.
Think it will look like ragged cape tatters when painted.
