Alternate Stirland Schemes?
« on: July 12, 2010, 11:14:41 PM »
I'm a Stirland player and after painting a test model, I didn't really like the yellow.  So I tried white too, but I didn't really like it either.  And since I really like the fluff of Stirland I refuse to try another one.  So does anyone have any alternate Stirland schemes?  Perhaps one that goes well with green?

Green and Blue? I know that's not a state and it looks nice IMO.

Really didn't think of that?  But, it sounds very cool.  I might have to try it out.

You could also go the Sylvania route.  Their colors escape me at the moment, but for some reason purple and black come to mind.

Purple and black indeed. It's more burgundy than pruple in the heraldry book though.

Interesting enough I use that for my swordsmen regiment and Warrior Priests.  Who's fluff makes them out as a Sylvanian Resistance Group.  The fluff behind my army is the reclamation of Sylvania meaning I have several regiments.  From Sylvania itself to Nuln.  However, the bulk of the army is Stirland.

You could always go for a green colour scheme and then just use yellow for details/special bits (i.e. all green clothes but your swordsmen have yellow shields). Wolfenbaum's Hochland are done in a similar manner, reducing the level of red to a decorative colour.

Purple should work well with green, especially if you have gone quite dark with the green (like me).  I personally use orange with my green as a supplementry colour, it works like yellow but the darkness adds to it in my opinion.

You could try green and black. I saw it on a Lego knight recently, and thought it would make a great Stirland scheme (Lego also has red and white knights, reminiscent of Talabheim!?!). You could make your army based off a small town or barony deep in the Forest, or bordering Sylvania (maybe even throw in some dragon heraldry.). Good luck! :::cheers:::

I actually used green/black on my old nuln force and it looks pretty good en masse.

Orange is a pretty good color for a scheme.

Do you despise yellow in general, or just some tone of yellow? Have you tried with different yellows?

I use Ivanden Dark Sun, often soaked with Devlan Mud, and it looks good to my eyes. I'd never use the birghter yellow tones. Looks kitch.

My Stirland army is the River patrol= Green and white because I also hate yellow. :biggriin:

There are also the Stirland Free Foresters and the Deathjacks. They are mercenaries so wear whatever and probably some green.  Then there's the Scarlet Guard of Stirland- Red wearing halberds so you may want to do something with them.  Take a look in the Library section of the forum and you'll come up with something good.
Dear Friend of Stirland,

If it is too irritating, why not paint a unit of scarlet guard.
