Death Masque starter box
« on: August 18, 2016, 10:58:50 PM »
I was thinking about picking this up, since the clowns alone are worth more than the entire box. As usual as of late, both armies come with their own formation which can be played immediately out of the box (excellent move on GWs part; it's like they started listening to us, or something). Also comes with a mini-rulebook and a stat codex for each model. I have a buddy who may be be interested in just the marines, which would be perfect.
So, what would you guys do if some dude came at you with a belt that way?
Make sure I've got the safeword memorised.

Just like the Deathwatch box, I like it a lot. Very cool models, half decent price.

I bought it despite having no interest in the harlequins just because deathwatch are awesome. Also I see always wanted the inquisitor Artemis model and now I have it in 40k scale

It's a great bargain, isn't it?

Would you be interested in selling the Harlequin vehicles?

Many of the 40K boxes of late have been excellent bargains! Sure, I need n o etheral but even with the etheral it is a bargain in many ways. And since Fire warriors and XV8 battlesuits are the bread and butter of the Farsight enclaves I do need more than I have.

But I really should invest in a Hammerhead first. Or not...

Now that's what I call a dropship:

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/deathwatch-corvus-blackstar

At frist glance I thought it was too massive, but the more I look at it, the more I like it. Lots of similarities with the Valkyrie. I guess they would look great next to each other, if you scratch the inquisition insignia off.

Boy they sure do like announcing their presence with all those I's don't they?

It really reminds me of a black starcraft terran drop ship. I kind of like it.

I quite like that. It's a classically ugly Imperial design.

I like it. But not sure about the assault cannons sticking out like that. It would look better housed in body. I assume that the doors with the big ][ on are the same as rhino to easier to make in more covert.
There are 40 different shades of black, so many fortresses and ways to attack.

So why you complaining!

Now that you mention it, I agree.

If that's a standard base, the bird is a bit smaller than the Valkyrie.

I like that it looks like something that could actually be dropped from orbit. The Valkyrie is one of my favorite models, but it looks more like a gunship or attack helicopter.

This thing could look good with some stormtroopers or Kasrkin, I think.

Great models. That flyer looks really, really cool. DW's rules are crazy. They'll work ideally as an allied army, maybe to IG or other SM chapters.

I bought the codex yesterday. They are powerful, but not overly. They suffer from the small power armour army problem of being vulnerable to AP3 shooting.
Fly is cool but needs to hoover to deploy the marines so can get shot down.
Like you say a nice allied bolt on but not sure how they will work as a full army, especially at 2000pts.

Most PA armies nowadays have better cover save than armour save anyway. Also the aboundance of FNP (Iron Hands) and invunerable saves really makes anything, not AP2 struggling. Personally I just like to inflict as many wounds as possible and force my opponent to take a zillion of saves.

Oh and a hovering flyer is a dead flyer. Period.

Maybe, but not in turn 4 on wards, all AA assets should be dealt with by then. However you're keeping a number expensive troops in it until then, which isn't great in a small elite army

The flyer is cool. It reminds me of the dropship from aliens but I guess that is the point. I do think it is a shame that gw have gone all out on flyers and stopped doing good, old fashioned tanks. I like tanks.

The sprue is very good, full of extras so I bought a space marine tactical squad with the thought of getting full use of the kit. i have found that with the sternguard and vanguard boxes a similar thing applies where you can get yourself ten more power armoured bodies and really make good use of all the bling on the sprues. It seems that frag cannons re the way to go. I can't really see many disadvantages to them.

points and money cost.

I love the assault HB with HF under slung, with hellfire shells its amazing at infantry clearing, especially Tau.

I've heard that the Frag Cannon spam is absolutely devastating, especially with some Drop pods.

I'm a big fan of all the deathwatch models. If I had a budget to speak off I'd probably pick some of the stuff up to work with my imperial guard. These are some of the first space marines that have really caught my attention.

I just love that drop ship.

And they work great with IG! Adding that high speed, ferocious assault factor to IG's slow but steady bombardment tactics. :smile2:

Finish the ad mech to 1850 then,  and only then, treat yourself. Oh and paint all the dropfleet stuff first to!
