Age of Sigmar official background overview
« on: August 09, 2015, 04:29:18 PM »
Friends, Forumites, Fellow AoS Fans! Lend me your ears ...

... and help me with this project.

As has been pointed out, there isn't a wiki entry for Age of Sigmar, and there isn't a general wiki for it yet (like there is for 40K with Lexicanum etc.) And there isn't a lot of background out yet - just a couple of books etc.

So, my plan is to gather the various scrips and scraps of fluff in the various places and bring them together into some kind of timeline, or list, or something.

If you have pieces of background, gleaned from White Dwarf, books etc. post them here and I shall add them into this post so we have a "together" view of the background. And please also post expansions to my bare-bones narrative, and correct things if I have them in the wrong order!

And, as well as timeline information, any notes about what the various realms are like - there are lots of little notes scattered about, and starting to build a cohesive document would be helpful.

Age of Sigmar "living document" timeline

* The World-That-Was is destroyed.
* Sigmar clings to the core of the world (a ball of Sigmarite) and is flung through the cosmos
* Sigmar encounters the great Dracoth and gives him a necklace of Sigmarite. The Dracoth shows Sigmar the Mortal Realms
* Sigmar gathers the surviving Incarnates and builds a great civilization - the Age of Myth begins
* Nagash betrays Sigmar
* Gorkamorka goes off to destroy stuff
* Tyrion imprisons Slaanesh
* The Horned Rat rises to become a Chaos God.
* Chaos returns and causes a ruckus
* Sigmar loses Ghal-Maraz
* Sigmar retreats to the Realm of Azyr and locks the gates
* Chaos dominates the Mortal Realms - the Age of Chaos begins
* Sigmar forges the Stormcasts and sends them forth on crusade - the Age of Sigmar begins
* The location of Ghal-Maraz is discovered in the Realm of Metal; Sigmar sends Stormhosts to capture it

Sigmar looses his hammer just before closing the gates to Azyr

Sigmar looses his hammer just before closing the gates to Azyr

So noted and reordered.

I thought he lost it during the End Times? Didn't Archon nab it and run away playing a game of keepy-away?

It may be more research than you want to do but it would be nice to see the source (as in what book) for each event.

Sigmar doesn't lose his hammer in the End Times. Valten lost it, then Sigmar took it back. He drops it in the fight against Archaon, but after he beats him he picks it back up. As the world ends, he is smashing it into Archaon as Archaon tries to pull it from his grasp and the void swallows them both.

A newbie question: does the Age of Myth comprise what WFB was?

It does not - that is The World Before. Age of Myth is after Sigmar finds the Mortal Realms and establishes the peaceful civilizations. Then Chaos comes and kicks over the applecart and the Age of Chaos begins. Now, we have the Age of Sigmar when Sigmar sends his stormhosts to reclaim the Mortal Realms.

I wish I knew the timeline better but I'm not in a position right now to buy the fluff books. :unsure:

Anyway, here's some things that might be included:

* Archaon is blessed by the Chaos gods and becomes their incarnate, spits in the horned rat's face when offered his blessing.

* Sigmar rescues a young maiden from a band of chaotic mortals who planned on sacrificing her, she claims to be unpure and has two shadows.

* Be'lakor is slain by the Seraphon who continually dropped rocks on him. (Oh, sweet karma)

I just re-read a bit from the first hardback fluff book.  Regarding Azyrheim, it says:

''The newcomers swelled what was already a vast and diverse population that included entire armies from the-world-that-was.''

I wonder what that means, given it seems to suggest Sigmar alone was saved, in the previous pages?
