Look at the specialist games section on the GW website. It was originally played with miniatures and still is by many avid fans

It's an awesomly fun game to play. I've almost finished painting my Bunnies of Doom team (bunch of females in play boy bunny costumes with necktie and bunny ears).

The greatest form of control which can go on forever until it is exposed is a tyranny you can't see, touch and taste (unlike totalitarian Govts). When you sit in a prison cell but can't see the bars, because people don't rebel against not being free when they think they're are.

I have a great Halfling team that just won their first game (against Orcs)

I also play humans.
CannonofDoom spews his shit at me all the time and I haven't banned him.

I read the online rulebooks last night, and it seems to be tremendous fun.

A pity that I would have to order the starting box from abroad, since GW does not seem to sell it here for some reason.

What is a pity is that GW literally threw away all the later called "specialist games" in order to explore new business like LoTR.

Games like, Necromunda, Mordheim, Bloodbowl, Heroquest, Armageddon, Space Hulk and many others were fantastic and added a lot of flavor and detail the main games couldn't explore.  Space Hulk and Blood Bowl were my favorites by far.

In my opinion Battlefleet Gothic is the best game system ever created. It rocks so hard, but it's quite a bit to swallow down, as opposed to Blood Bowl and Mordheim. Nevertheless, I wish GW would support their excellent specialist games more.

Necromunda is a wonderful game that if we can get over to the states we'll most certainly be trying out again.  :-D

I've always loved bloodbowl to the point where my brother and I invented our own rules and made our own board outta paper using Warhammer figures so we could play but we could never afford the real thing...

Let's not forget Gorkamorka... :icon_wink:

I think the appeal of the Specialist Games partly comes from the fact that they attract less WAAC-freaks who exploit rules gaps (unlike the main systems). Hence, any weakness in the rules isn't as aggravating as it is in the main systems.

That being said, Mordheim has arguably the best line of miniatures ever (remember that the Militia sprues were initially created for it - says a lot).

Another great thing about specialist games is that maybe apart from Battlefleet Gothic, you can play a game in less than one or two hours.  They are great for people who simply couldn't afford (or wish) spending an evening playing Fantasy or 40K.  Painting requirements were other advantage for people who are not enough patient to collect a complete 200+ models army in the course of one or two years   :-D

Battlefleet Gothic becomes easily eternal when played above 1500 pts though...

Warmaster for sure.

I still play Blood Bowl (2nd) and Necromunda (1st), but I play Warmaster and Warmaster Anciants more than any other system at the moment

I have 4 Epic armies* and am working (well its on hold) on more.  Epic Armageddon is a fantastic game, the standard scenario makes warhammers "pitched battle" look terribly arbitrary.

I also have a blood bowl team in a box... though they haven't seen any action for about 20 years.

BFG looks good, I haven't played it but I read the rules (and ripped off the campaign system for another game once).

Just a shame that specialist games is getting smaller and smaller...

(Marines, Eldar, Titan Legions, Orcs, IG and Black Legion)

PS Talisman was the worst written game I have ever played, we never actually had a winner of a game as every time someone found a loop-hole that could prevent anyone from winning. The best boxed game GW ever did was Cosmic Encounter!

There's a large contingent of BFG players at my local club, and I keep thinking about getting into it...except I also keep thinking about getting on with Dark Elves, Wood Elves, VC, Space Marines...

Mordheim is the best game ever produced by Games Workshop. Even better than Man O War.

Playing Mordheim is like having liquid hot joy injected into your genitals.

I'm a major SG player myself.  I have these armies.

BFG:  about 9000 points of Imperial Navy (including Space Marines),  3700 points of Tau (including 2 bastions but not including the stronghold I haven't built), small Ad Mech Fleet (4 Lights, 1 Regular, 1 BB and 1 Ark mechanicus)

Warmaster:  4000 points of painted Dwarfs,  about 3000ish of TK Undead.

Epic:  Overly large armies of Space Marines, Orks,  Imperial Guard and a decently sized force of SQUATS.

Mordheim:  A Witch Hunters warband box.
