Don't be upset if you lose your souls.  The first time I played through DS1 I screamed and cursed every time I died and failed to retrieve my bloodstain.  Then I learned the secret - souls are super easy to come by.  So what if you lose 100K?  A couple of minutes grinding can easily get that back.

If you're going in blind, don't expect to find everything the first time through.  Some of the NPC questlines are so insanely obscure that you'll never figure them out without reading a guide.  Hell, even some of the basic game mechanics are never actually explained in game.

Humble very positive bundle.

Curious expedition is really really fun!

roguelike randomly generated exploration game.

on my last expedition my best party member turned into a pyromaniac, which set 2 fires and killed my other 2 party members...

Correct about the souls part, which makes DS1 differ from DS2 where even regular critters disappear after killing them 10 times (you can use a Covenant to make them spawn again though).

That bit of the basic mechanics is also very true, I had to look up how to jump for instance.

I too have just started playing DS1 (since last week), but I've already played DS2. So it feels familiar already. I do immediatly get all those remarks about superior level design in DS1 though. Just the lay-out of Undead Burg makes DS1 feel like the sequel instead of DS2.

In addition I'm spending a good amount of time with Civ5, with my kids. Got a hotseat game going with ech of them individually and one with both of them.  :icon_biggrin:

It's not just the design of individual levels, but the interconnectivity of the world as a whole is far superior in DS1 than in 2 or 3.

Prey is interesting.  It is like System Shock 2... sort of.  It is like Dishonored.  A bit.  Unfortunately the coolness of the station is somewhat diminished by the lack of variety in enemies (basically at four hours in we have little mimics, phantoms, and robots that look like hovering PC's) and terrible controls.  It feels almost as though you are driving Leon Kennedy around from Resident Evil 2.

I don't know what that entails exactly, but to me it sounds like an escort quest mashed together with a slapped on bit of driving for which the controls were implemented rudimentary.

In other words, about the most horrible thing you could have in a video game.

Darksiders 3
Great news!

Honestly not a fan of how they designed Fury's face, seems a bit cartoonish... But oh well, looking forward to this nonetheless :)!

I'm a huge fan of Stellaris myself. It's pretty much Crusader Kings 2 in space. There's still a few odd things, and a few things that they plan to include alter are missing, but I think it's a good game.

Stellaris is great. I had been eyeing off a lot of space 4x games before it came out, and I have been very happy with my choice. Also, I know some people hate their DLC strategy, but to me it refreshes the game every few months. Only problem is, your saved games become unplayable. So keep up to date with the dev diaries to know when a release is coming, and consider turning off auto-update until you are finished your run.

You can always go back to a previous patch as well if you want to finish a run. I've done that a couple of times, but usually the update is some fun, exciting new stuff.

I also really enjoy Stellaris, their support in developing the game further is just amazing, it's had it's first anniversary and is at patch 1.6 and I feel like I've played 4 versions of the same game as they make all kinds of (sometimes quite major) revisions to the game to make it better, without having to pay a penny for them.

I'll be buying some of the DLC come next Steam sale I think.

I've been playing Eve Online lately. Last night I was doing some exploration stuff (a way to make money) in a little unarmed ship, and some dude in a tooled up stealth ship hunted me down and killed me. No big deal, that's the game. Then he donates 16million monies to me like I need his charity. So I took his money and used it to place a bounty on him, because pettiness is hilarious. The payoff was the butthurt mail message he sent me, threatening to "see you next time". Ha! I died, but I feel like I won that fight.
CannonofDoom spews his shit at me all the time and I haven't banned him.

My Canadian internet daughter finally bought PU Battlegrounds as well, and we played 3 games just now - and we placed decently in the first two AND WE WON THE LAST ONE!

That was excellent fun.

What's a Canadian internet daughter? Is that some variation of these girls from abroad who seem to want to become my wife? (poor things, their e-mails always seem to end up in my spam box, and if they'd have checked my Facebook they'd have known I was already married!).

Nah, it's an early 20's girl from Canada I played Counter-Strike with for some time, and when she found out how old I am she began calling me "dad". So I did the logical thing and began calling her "daughter", and it kinda stuck.  :-D She actually came over for a visit last summer, probably coming over again next year with her BF. Gotta make sure the young man is up to standards and give him the talk!

How responsive is battle ground?

I have held off for fear that it will be like Miscreated/Day Z.  Slushy controls.

Servers are 30-40 tick atm, so you might want to hold off if that's a deal breaker for you. I have been killed by lag before (already behind cover and still took a hit, for example). Dev team is aware of it and working on it, but apparently it's an issue with UE's core engine code - so not a quick and easy fix.

Last time I got ambushed in an exploration site, I was flying an Astero, just like the ambusher. I launched a full flight of ECM drones and managed to tank him long enough with mad reps in order to land a successful jam and escape. Took away my taste for exploration though, the profitability of exploration had just gone down way too much since I started doing it.

I had to look up my killboard, now that you mentioned Eve Online. Looks like my last PvP action was from November 2015. Good times. Ended up not having the time to play though, hit a rough patch in life, and haven't touched it since.
The only good thing about 7th ed heads is that they look particularly inbred and superstitious which is perfect for Stirlanders
