I've started up Forge of Freedom again, also produced by Matrix games.  Probably 5 years old now and kind of out of date (even for when it was introduced).  Not high on graphics and the battles are a bit slow and painful but it's still probably the most detailed and in depth game of the ACW I've played yet.

There are not many ACW games around, are there?

At long last, I've ordered an N64! :icon_cool: Yes, I'm old. And boring, I guess. I don't care.

Comparatively, no.  Best one I've ever played thus far is Sid Meir's Gettysburg.  If that real time battle engine was combined with Forge of Freedom's macro strategy it would be the ultimate game.  Or, if the Total War ever gets around to doing one up...

Perhaps it is considered boring gameplay-wise because there are just two factions, one of which was significantly more powerful...

(the other one won on style though concering the flag and the uniforms)

The Union was less powerful?

The south had neither style nor power.  But they were fighting for "state's rights" which was a powerful impetus for victory!

Maybe, but there are generally only two or three factions I ever find interesting in Total War games anyway.  Forge of Freedom has different scenarios you can tinker with and alter power levels as well, so it's not all that boring.  Plus, there's a feature where you can put general's stats at random, so Grant and Lee could be horrible generals and the likes of Bragg and McClellan could end up being world beaters.

But their flag looks better!

Sorry. I really think it does.

It's ok to be blatantly and totally wrong, Gneisenau.  :-)

Some posters hit it off with more ease though.  :engel:

As a person living in the South, I can tell you that the Confederate flag is everywhere, and it is terrible.

That's a myth perpetuated by a bad (GASP! That's right, Dukes of Hazard sucks. I said it.) television program.

I will admit that living down here has made me a lot more racist than I used to be. That's more a result of the unfortunate culture that the black people in my area perpetuate for themselves. That's not to say I hate blacks as a rule, since I am friends with no less than 5 of them (which is approximately 30% of my friend base) I'm simply much more apt to be predisposed to believing that a random black person in the service industry will be rude and apathetic, while not wishing to do any work.

n64 was amazing.

although playing goldeneye with the c buttons was impossible now.

You should get Blast corps, that was an amazing yet unherladed game.
I don't care about the rules.

I would like to point out that Trenched is finally coming to Europe. On this day, I shall purchase an xbox gold subscription again. Think it was renamed to Iron Brigade.
