The origin of Warhammer Dwarves--Orangutans? :)
« on: February 09, 2007, 02:58:02 AM »
Check this video out. It's a tape of an orangutan beating a monstrous sumo wrestler in a rope pulling contest.

http://www.fuckedgaijin.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17021

Now, the orangutan in the video is 4 feet tall and about 180 pounds--which I assume is an average-sized orangutan. So we have a creature who is about the same size as a fantasy dwarf and very strong--much stronger than an average human?

Does anyone see the connection?  :icon_mrgreen:

It's odd to see how inanely more powerful great apes are compared to humans. Did the orangutan even do a little victory dance at the end?
I agree with the inhumane treatment of animals.

Go simians!    :closed-eyes:   All the more reason to field my all powder-monkey regiment. Can't beat a horde of fighting monkeys!
I'm pro-monkey. Anyone who isn't is evil.

I believe I once read that a male Urangutang is actually 4-5 times stronger than an male human and is literally capable of tearing one limb from limb.

You realize that we are all going to have a difficult time getting any beer over at Bugman's now.

It's a pity that the Orangutangs are so threatened.

That's what I've heard as well. Even more, I've read that a grown-up male gorilla (the big guys) could, with some training, easily lift a tonne - 1000 kg, about 2200 lbs. Fortunately, orang-utans and gorillas are very peacefull.

And we wondered why Grimgor is S5...

Could one of the medics around here perhaps explain why apes beat humans in strength hands down, even though they have a comparable amount of muscles? I'd be very interested in the explanation.

Unfortunately for this little theory, if you look at the way dwarfs are built vs. great apes, dwarfs are not similar at all.

You all know the real answer is Gimli.

It's a matter of physics- the orangutan's muscle attaches to its arm farther down from the elbow.
A lever is a useful analogy. If you move the point upon which the lever pivots closer to the weight you're trying to lift, lifting that weight will become easier, whereas if you move it farther away, it will become harder to lift.
So while we have a greater range of motion, owing to the nearness to the elbow of our bicep's attachment to the bone, we also sacrifice a great deal of strength that the other primates have.

You also get the fact that humans have sub-concious inhibitors which limit the amount of strength they can use, these inhibitions are lacking in the case of some psychotic people, hence why people under emence pressure can be much  stronger than normal, for example the man under going surgery pre anasthetics would need to be held down by 5 or 6 other men. I would assume that the reason the great apes are so much stronger than us proberably has a lot to do with this.

Fortunately, orang-utans and gorillas are very peacefull.

A common mistake. They're about as peaceful as pandas!

*clears throat*

After dark
The panda stalk
Nightmare creatures, with black hearts

Ravenous teeth
That glow in dark
Feasting on bums that sleep in the park

The pandas are coming!
So hide under your bed!
The pandas are coming!
They'll rip your [beep] to shreds!
