Beastlord Karankawa's Painting Diary
« on: April 24, 2009, 12:03:05 PM »
Greetings all - I find that having a painting diary really helps motivate me (and maybe others) to get some work done!  I'll be using this diary to help capture all my Empire work and progress (and maybe get the army complete in a year or so?).  Thank you in advance for all your comments and critiques.

As I mentioned earlier - I have got a little bit of an Empire bug at the moment.  Spent the last few weeks going through bags, bitz boxes, cases, etc to determine just what my stating point was with my Empire army (ok - restarting point).  Its really been a rag tag army for me - several theme changes over the years - several "adopted" models - several versions of models - etc.

Here is what I found (over the next several posts):

HEROES:

Hello fellow Beast!

Looking good so far. Out of curiosity, do you have a horde of beasts lurking too?

@steveb - me too (in both appreciation for the classics and eager to get some work done!)

@zak - thank you (same response really from steveb!)

@Siberius - just a few Beastmen armies at least.  Beastmen are by far my largest army.  Much of my work is found on the Herdstone:  http://z2.invisionfree.com/herdstone/index.php?showtopic=7115

@Inarticulate - one of my favorites as well - really want to do a nice job with it - thinking blue steel all around as I want to go for a Reikland theme.

@QuelloCheFu - thank you!  All the painted ones will be getting updates (did them a few years ago and have learned a few more techniques that I want to incorporate while the army is essentially "uncomplete").

@Malvino - thank you as well - yes, I primarily start with a black undercoat.  Those that have the "white" or "off-white" undercoat now was from many years ago and will be getting "re-coated".

@QuelloCheFu - thank you - they were orginally part of a "Nuln" theme that didn't seem to take off.  Haven't quite decided what to do with these guys just yet except for leave them for now.

@Priest_of_Morr - thank you as well - hand gunners will most likely get "love" first so that the units are completed.

@Soren - thanks!  With chaos, I could come up with all kinds of conversions - Empire, I'm kind of struggling with as I do want to maintain uniformity.

More of what I have to work with...

I would love to have some of those hobbits, there are poses there that I have never seen before! manufacturer?  I also love the goblin conversion from the old 60 figure plastic regiment set, they sure are ugly hobbits, must be down from the hills where its hard to tell how whos related to who and how many different ways they are related. (limited gene pool selection) I do love them though and may try it myself. thanks for sharing and keep posting. steveb

I'm liking those goblin halflings as well.  In fact I think I might still a few of those old plastic goblins around somewhere.  A few head swaps with Empire heads, and cheap and cheerful Halflings.

Is it me or are a couple of those heads on sideways or backwards?

@QuelloCheFu - totally agree - the halflings will serve all kinds of roles - milita, swordsmen, unit fillers, etc.  The Hot Pot can still be a hot pot from time to time, or at least be a mortar.  :)

@Dino! - thank you, and its coming, got to get some pictures up (though the first round didn't turn out very good - picture wise).

@steveb - to my knowledge, the metal halflings are all GW halfings - some of which are pre-slotta base.  The plastic ones are definitely ugly - with a purpose.  The "Uncle Fester" unit has served me very very well over a vast number of years.  :)

@Oxycutor - thank you - they were easy to do (all I did was file the ears down a bit back then).  And yes, there are heads poking around every which way (well, except 180) - got to be on your toes if you are at the low end of the food chain.

Bonus Update:  ARMY SHOT(S):

<<No Flash>>

Since this picture, I have found another unit of knights and 4-5 more wizards.  Still have a lot of militia on sprue too.

Well, I believe I have decided upon the updated color scheme for my Reikland Empire army.  I wanted the nice "creamy" color and not so much the stark white / black contrast.  I also tried to blend a lot more with this army, so some ares of the model don't have "crisp" feel.

Thoughts (other than the pictures really did not turn out)?

Still have some room to grow, obviously.  I would rather it look good on the table than close up - but wish it could be both though.
