Revilers Blog *Relic contemptor dreadnought*
« on: January 17, 2012, 05:33:32 PM »
I'd like to start plog to show you all my space marine army that i've finally got round to doing after 10 years of planning and collecting bits to do.

I've always wanted a completely codified space marine army painted in a clean crisp style. this means all the unit markings as laid down in theinsignium astartes book and chapter and army markings. I also really like the mark 6 helmets, reminds me of my early 40K days, so i have collected enough helmets over the years to give them all one. I also intensely dislike the idea of a SM not wearing a helmet, so all my marines will have full armour whilst in combat. Chapter rule!

I have chosen the Revilers chapter because little is know about them but they are in the insignium book so the basics are covered.

I've always liked tactical marines and speeders and the idea of a mech army, even in 3rd edition, so this is what i've gone for. My force is from the 7th Co so is all tacticals. The 7th also specialise in speeder deployment which fits in with the style i want (the 6th is bike deployment). I intend to use the speeders as gun ships in style.

Anyway you want to see some painted models so here they are. The two tactical marine i've painted this month, from the 5th squad.

I've got two full tactical squads done and a rhino, the second rhino is next in line for painting. I have also done the company apothicary for the command squad. Pictures of these will follow based on the weather for photos.

There are 40 different shades of black, so many fortresses and ways to attack.

So why you complaining!

Oh, very nice. Very crisp.
I've dumped the plans of using Bretonnians. They suck.

Finlay: The black edging and neat highlighting makes then look crisp. I am getting much quicker at it as well. Can do a marine in under 2 hours now. My free hand is getting better too. Base coat in codex grey, black line, back over with codex grey then fortress grey highlights. After that its just the details.

Rufus: The helmet stripes are very old school but happen to be the way the Revilers distinguish their companies which helps the theme i want.

Looking at them up close in the photos gives them nowhere to hide and the painting looks a little rough to me. Dom wouldn't be worried. However I've got to draw the line somewhere to be able to get the army done and that's where i've drawn it.

Light is rubbish today so no photos. Hopefully tomorrow i'll get both full squads photographed and their rhino so you can see.

Any photos that close up are going to show all the mistakes.
But they still hold up really well, imo. They will look great at arms length, and even better all on the tabletop!

I want to see rhinos and landspeeders.

A little, but they still look good. From a normal gaming distance they will look amazing.

Sounds familiar ................

They look good - and as has been said these photos are very close up - on the table very nice.

I too like those helmets, and the striking feature for me - even though you will probably not see it at the 'looks good' distance are the eyes - the green looks spooky and goes well with the purple stripe.

I always loved that chapter for their grey armour. How did you do the black lining? before or after highlighting?

Anyways awesome work!

no idea,

I'm having a captain with 5 man command squad in razorback, (cc orientated)
3 tactical squads in rhinos
2 predators
2 speeder typhoons
4 speeder tornado's

however many points that is, it's all about the fluff

and probably 10 scouts in rhino, 5 snipers, and 2 x  5 CC scouts in a speeder storm (and hope it becomes a DT)

The revilers have a lot of scouts from their raven guard heritage

OK major, phototastic, update.

Weather was good this morning so i got out and photographed all the marines i've got done today.

Squad 2
full squad

Sergeant

In keeping with the codex the sergeants helmet is red. i decided to only paint the top section of it red. The beak i kept grey as i like this combo. only veterans will have their lower helmets in white
Heavy weapon

Marine with assault bolter with drum magazine.

The bolter came from the old scout biker hybrid box set. I ordered them years ago when you could do such things

Their Rhino

Squad 5
Full squad

Sergeant

I gave him a combi melta to go with the melta the squad has

Their rhino is on the painting table atm.

I have also painted the company apothicary

I used the old metal body from the metal blood angles jet pack command squad with the old mark 7 helmet removed and a lovely beaky put on.

That is all i've got done. The plan is to finish the rhino for squad 5 and a speeder i've got assembled and then finish the command squad and it's razorback. Then i have a legal army, if a bit small.

I'll keep them coming as i get them done. By the eurobash the army will be done

They look really really great Adam. Can't wait to fight them!

The freehanded markings on the rhino are really good.

Thanks guys, the support is helping get going with these.
I have finished black lining the next rhino and have assembled a speeder and the remaining four members of the command squad. Used the running legs from the assault marine sprue to give then a sense of movement. Will get a photo up.

What does the apothocary do, rules-wise? Add 'feel no pain' to the command squad?

Don't know or care. Each company has one so in he went. Would have thought so about the 'feels no pain'

I filled the speeder with green stuff last night so have to file that back today and get it sprayed. The rhino is taking preference as its on my to complete list for the month. You'll have to wait a little while i'm afraid.
