« on: July 12, 2020, 05:32:48 PM »
Questions ...

Have all 40K armies been brought up to date for 8th edition?

Which armies have received the most recent updates?

Is there info on what codex updates are coming next?

Yes

Sisters for sure with their codex, Inquisition in Pariah, Custodes/Officio Assassinorum/Death Guard/Fabius Bile and his chaos friends in War of the Spide before Pariah

Expected are Space Marines and Necrons, also Death Watch to be expected soon so they can use the new Primaris

It gets a little extra tricky because as well as the Codex's, there were also very key updates in the Psychic Awakening books.

So sounds like it makes sense for me to wait on Space Marines, eh?

How about Orks, is it safe for em to buy that one?

And what about Tau?

Chaos Space Marines?

IG?

Weird question, is it worth getting 8th edition codex or waiting for 9th ones to release?

I don't have any of the 8th edition codexes.  But I'm wondering if I can use older codexes with the new core rules that I printed off.  Maybe I'll take a look at that, when i can find a free moment ... lol!

If they are going to release Space Marines soon, which that what's been reported here, then I'll wait for that one.  But Orks, Tau, etc? Hmmm.

And if I do pick up the starter set, then wonder if I'll even need the Space marines or Necrons?

So the old books will work with the new edition BUT you do need the new chapter afforded munitorium guide, or whatever its called. That's what has the new points costs of units and a few new rules to bring everything up to date for the new edition.

Space Marines and Necrons have been said will be the first new codexes of the new batch. When exactly they'll come out, we don't know. Soonish is the estimate. The rest of them we have no idea. There's been no word on the order or how long the weight. Possibly a new codex every 2 or 3 months.

The starter set seems to come with ONLY the rules for ONLY the units in the box. Not the rest of the space marines or Necrons, and worse, I've been told it doesn't actually explain the rules. It assumes you already have a codex to look up the details. So the book in the starter set says Necron Lords have "My will be done" special rule, but doesn't tell you what that is. You'd have to check the necron book.

Personally, while waiting I'd grab a fee digital copy that can be found floating around the net. No point buying a book that's going to be out of date in a few months, but at the same time you need the book to get started because it doesn't seem like everything is covered in the box set.
