Running the first game with the Dawnbringers since the arrival of the codex.
I am in a BAD spot. I have 10 Sternguard veterans and Dark Angels no longer have access to the Sternguard. I am planning on using them as hellblasters but jesus are those expensive. I'll run a group in this weekend's game though to try them out.
My army:
1 Azreal
1 Belial
1 Ezekial
10 Deathwing Terminators with power fists and 2 cyclone missile lanuchers
10 Deathwing Terminators with power fists and 2 assault cannons
8 Deathwing Knights
1 Deathwing Ancient with thunder hammer and storm shield.
I plan for these guys is to drop the knights, the cyclone terminators, the ancient, and Belial on the flank or in the face of the enemy. Use the deathwing strategem to get 80 rerollable storm bolter shots and 8 missile shots, all rerollable. The knights, the ancient, and belial will form up and create a powerful hardpoint to blunt enemy advances. On turn two I will bring in the second unit of ten terminators and trigger the double shot strategem again, clearing another swath of models. Whatever remains of the terminators will be a significant threat that the enemy can't ignore.
10 Tactical Marines - plasma rifle, plasma cannon
10 Tactical Marines - plasma rifle, heavy bolter
10 Tactical Marines - plasma rifle, heavy bolter
10 Devastators - 4 laser cannon, cherub
10 Devastators - 4 plasma cannon, cherub
10 Helblasters - assault plasma gun things
Azreal will be in range of the helblasters and two devastators, allowing all three their rerolls. I will break the tactical squads into detachments that have the sergeant and 4 regular bolters in one group and the plasma gun and heavy bolter with three bolter guys in the other. The regulars will be deployed as buffer units to delay the enemy.
Opposition will be 1500 in the new Tyranids and 1500 in Iron Warriors.
