Added background, more maps, rules changes like ... not being able to shoot out of combat ... seems like it could be an improvement.
-
All good!
Those death models are incredible. I like the new SC as well.
Looks like it’s taking a good turn.

More new models!

The new edition is designed to consolidate on everything you love about Warhammer Age of Sigmar, while refining gameplay, adding depth and darkness to the lore of the Mortal Realms, and transforming magic into something very special indeed.
You may have cast a Purple Sun before, but never like this – get ready for roaming, predatory spells, fantastical enchantments and summoned sorceries that aren’t just words on a warscroll but active (and very deadly) participants in your games.

There will also be a webcomic to help kick it off.

The new starter box seems ideal to me since I was intending to get Stormcast anyways.
-
Every time I turn around they're adding something new to that log. I couldn't even find the new starter set.
Enjoyed seeing the new sisters of battle figure on there though.
-
I know I saw them talking about the new starter set, but I don't think I saw a decent picture of it myself. Just a partial. Did they put up a list of contents somewhere yet?

There hasn't been any official announcement of start box contents yet.
Though having said that, on the Warhammer Community site, they haven't put up full detailed pics of all the miniatures that were on display at Warhammer Fest, so speculation is that the stuff they have shown is starter box contents

Interesting.

I can't believe that I am saying this, but the undead models look very good (for the most part)! They are the first AoS models that I like.

Seconded. If only it didn't have Planet Marines.

Magic in the new edition:
https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/05/22/22nd-may-magic-casting-and-unbindinggw-homepage-post-2/
the 2 standard spells Arcane Bolt and Mystic Shield are getting toned down
(https://whc-cdn.games-workshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/AoSMagic1-May22-ArcaneBolt3id.jpg)
unbinding now at 30" instead of 18"
each realm will get specific spells much like the winds of magic from old.. something tells me that you have to make sure to choose a realm before battle some way
(https://whc-cdn.games-workshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/AoSMagic1-May22-Bamishment20tr.jpg)
and in a new article they will talk about endless spells and predatory spells

Summoning adressed
https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/05/24/24th-may-rules-preview-summoning-for-freegw-homepage-post-2/
Every army gets a way to earn points for a faction specific resouce in which they can then use to summon units.. this is cost free
So now you build your 2000 point army as a 2000 point army and any summoning you can get during the game is bonus
-
I like 👆
-
I'd have to see the full rules to see if this is workable, and fair. Bringing back a unit of 30 grave guard, or Mortarch isn't the same as summoning a unit of 10 zombies.
-
I agree. I like being able to summon some zombies or maybe some units of demons without having to preplan the points. I'm not fond of the thought of anything getting summoned.
-
It sounds like all armies will get some form of summoning. It could mean games drag on a lot longer, if everyone can summon.

Shooting: When in combat (read when within 3" of an enemy unit) you can shoot but only at a unit within 3"

But still ok on free units able to shoot at a unit that is in combat..
-
I like the look of the summoned spells so far. It's interesting that whoever goes second in a round gets first pick to control them. Force players to mix up their turn order a bit instead of always fighting to go first.
-
Outside of tournaments and the first battle round, I've never seen anyone give away first turn, especially if you get the double-turn. The endless spells, and the LoTR resolution ot the roll-off where a draw means the choice goes to the person who didn't get it last might mean double-turns are less common, or less overpowering.
It has it's ups and downs, you can sometimes get back into a game from a double-turn, and make for an exciting finish, or you can be ruined out of it. magic and shooting heavy armies benefit more from the double-turn than a combat army anyway

Free People in the new edition sounds promising!
-
They want me to have 30 crossbowmen in one unit, eek! That seems like 8th edition all over again.
-
They want me to have 30 crossbowmen in one unit, eek! That seems like 8th edition all over again.
Yes and No. It's not like the units of 50 or 60 Empire troops we saw in 8th edition, or 200 goblins or 100 zombies I've seen in 8th.
But also not like the units the size of one box that we had at the start of Age of Sigmar before points came along. Base troops hardly featured on the tabletop at all, until the first GHB came along and Battleline became a requirement for matched play armies. And GHB2017 added points discouts for max sizing units - not much, and very few units have a max size above 30. Skinks, Grots and Clanrats. Pretty much every other battleline tops out at 30.
And even then, with battleshock the way it is, large units can crumble from battleshock if they take a lot of casulaties, so unless you can protect them from taking too much damage or make them immune, or resist battleshock, you can be as well off with multiple smaller units, though many freeguild units benefit from rules that give them bonuses for bigger units - rules that have been in since the start 3 years ago.
There has been a little shift to bigger units, but not in a huge way like hordes did in 8th. Also, there's been a lot of debate at tournaments over time management with big armies, and how long it can take to move miniatures - especially in the more precise way required at that level, and whether taking too long isn't good for the game.
I feel at the moment it's about right.
-
I like the focus! I like where it seems to be heading, not to mention just getting mentioned.
-
Looking good.

So far been pulling up some W:AoS threads relatively randomly (one form 2020, 2019, and now 2018), and here's another mostly positive topic thread. Beginning to think there's a bit more balance than some might seem to be aware, although perhaps that's because negativity tends to stick out and stay longer with how our human brains work at times. None the less, W:AoS has been acquiring quite the following it seems or GW wouldn't be producing, and by what I've heard, selling so many figures. In fact on the fantasy side of things, it seems besides W:AoS with its change in rules and Stormcast vs. Undead starter set, and its continually expanding number of figures available, there are new skirmish sets like Warcry, Underworlds, Beastgrave, Direchasm, and even a return to Blood Bowl. Plus ... dare I mention ... the rumors of a return to the Old World. Perhaps GW's move away from it in the first place has been recognized for what it was, and meanwhile the improvements to W:AoS have helped bring about a healthy fantasy community, along with new creative ideas for it and beyond.
-
Honestly I don't know why this thread is split off from the rumours one. Its just 90% links and quotes from the community site, exactly like the rumours thread.
I also personally feel people tend to misunderstand why GW is returning to the Old World, and label at correcting a mistake, when it a lot of ways its the exact opposite of that.
-
Yep, I'm seeing more and more it wasn't necessarily a mistake in what they were trying to accomplish, but instead how. Regardless, going back to the Old World is one of timing and where they see an opportunity to make more money selling figures. Which likely can still be brought into W:AoS perhaps as well.
