I'm really enjoying painting them! Might start on the Ironstrider tonight.

I want a big mechanicus tank! When will they release one! I have all the other kits including the electro priests with the big rubber shoes!
Seriously debating buying an ironstrider to go with my dragoons but damn are they expensive. Looks like plastic heresy is on the way so I need to start saving me some sheckles.

They are the bollocks! Love em

Want to see more.
There are 40 different shades of black, so many fortresses and ways to attack.

So why you complaining!

Finlay are you using special weapons in vanguard squads? I'm thinking of running them bare and just rad poisoning everything to death

I think I made some of the plasma guns yes. Although I think now people are realising they're too expensive. I would guess worth it if you are making that unit your warlorc so they have preferred enemy, otherwise the rad is efficient enough.

I am using Arc rifles in my vanguards though.

First Dragoon should be finished tonight. It's not been that bad to paint at all, and I usually hate doing vehicles.

close up of base (need to tidy my Ironearth spill)

I still think an oil barrel or something would look good!

I'm trying to post a couple more photos but the forum keeps squashing the resolutions weirdly!

That looks fantastic! The red and blue suits the model.

Need to find some in the right scale. People sell them for doing model trains and stuff.

the base looks huge when there is so little contact point with the model, and the bulk of the model is raised up as well.

Here are some: https://www.wonderlandmodels.com/products/pegasus-hobbies-28mm-oil-drums/

Might be cheaper somewhere else.
I've found some a pound a barrel inc. postage on ebay.

What do people reckon about miniature bricks to build some ruined walls around the broken girders etc.

Don't see bricks in 40k much. I'd do concrete with girders poking out or something similar.

Get a spare sigmarine head, add some rust effect like it's been on the ground for what shall we say ................. 10k    :engel:

no, it's kinda weird to use. Have to pile it really thick to make it crack. I've used half a pot and done one walker and 3 infantry!

That is a good idea!

I have a bunch of 'em I'm not using, Finlay - if you do want to do that, PM me your address and I'll drop 'em in the mail to you :)

Your army is really very lovely, Finlay - I really like the models. The color scheme looks wonderful against the red earth. Great painting.

I do agree, however - the bases often need something more. You are right; the small point of contact and the fact the models are heavy up top (first time "modes are heavy up top" was used in an innocent sense, perhaps) means they need something on the bases. Wrecked machinery, cogs and tubes etc.

You can buy little bags of watch components on eBay relatively inexpensively. Some of those with some twisted bits of plasticard might work well.

They look really good. I also like the red and blue combo. Im not sure about the tan for the severtor driver of the walker. Id consider either a more red brown or a dark blue For his clothes.
For the reinforced concrete walls for the base you can use some foam card for the concrete wall, with a coat of sand and pva mix to create texture. Then add little bits of wire poked into the foam of the card for the reinforcing bar. The wire makes  the bit look like a piece of wall with re bar.

Have you considered some browned grass tuffs for the bases as well, not to much, but especially on the larger bases. Plants prevail in the toughest conditions.

So, I'm finally at around 1850 with my Ad Mech. Now in the process of trying to basecoat everything, in order to come back and do all of the fun stuff later.

I was really wanting to build this force slowly and methodically - take my time, and do a really nice job on everything (start with 500 points, maybe move up from there a squad at a time), but I accidentally won, like, 9 unopened boxes of stuff on eBay, so those plans were nixed.

Now I've joined a pretty hardcore narrative campaign (seriously, the effort these guys have put in, for YEARS, to develop a particular part of the galaxy is insane), and have enrolled for my first tournament in January.

I must say, I'm finding them a pleasure to paint, even given my general aversion to painting metallics. And it's been pretty great to just throw myself into a 40k project - which I know will continue to be supported - after the last year or so of total WFB uncertainty (and I'm not quite at the point where I can really care about either Kings of War or 9th Age (the two most feasible alternatives in my area) enough to be excited about my Wood Elves at the mo).
