Bases: coloured rims or not?
« on: March 10, 2022, 04:43:41 PM »
For reference, this is what I mean.
These miniatures are NOT mine.

Post your answer below. In a week I'll tally up the results.

Now go! Ride towards the sun atop these noble steeds
You're our spandex heroes, now fullfil your destinies
And so we turned and rode beyond the castle walls
with shiny codpiece armour that doth cradle our chivalrous balls

Presume you're referring to the color of the edge of the base? If yes, then I'd go with the brown.

However, black works for having figures stick out on the table.

Depends on the use of the figure – if its more for display the black defines what you have modelled – if its more for gaming and you have a regular table try to match the table colour.

Its a bit like what you put on the base – for gaming just grit and tufts but for display you can add half a house. Nothing looks worse on a gaming table than a unit dragging a village round with them so try to disguise the fact your troops are moving around on 9” high circles by painting them in the table colour.

From your two colours I prefer the black.

[the figures look like they are for display and are mounted on black plinths – this makes the brown base colour look odd and wrong]

I have a few colours I use, depending on how I am basing the army.

Scorched Brown (or equivalent), Dark Angels Green (or equivalent) and Codex Grey (or equivalent)

Brown for wasteland or swamp type basing
Green for grass or forest
Grey for snow, pavement, or volcano ash

I haven’t really done any black before I dont think.

I like the ideas being shared here.

Also, I've been using a lot of wood bases lately with my Lion Rampant armies, and when these have been cut by the manufacturer, they are already burned a medium brown, and I then just leave them that way.

Nice rimshots.....
It is not enough to have no ideas of your own; you must also be incapable of expressing them.

Black sided bases for me, by thousand, going back 37 years. I'm hardly gonna change now!
