Title: A simple goodbye
Post by: Darknight on September 03, 2015, 11:36:58 AM
I would have done this via PM, but I am not sure who would be interested in it.

It has become increasingly obvious to me over the last few weeks - despite my attempts (and even encouragement of others) to ignore it - there is a lack of support for AoS on this forum in general, combined with a very negative, dismissive and rude tendency of the players of the game. Discussions about Age of Sigmar are invariably joined by negative comments from those who do not like it. Other games do not suffer this.

Obviously, it is up to the inhabitants of the forum and the moderation team to create whatever kind of atmosphere they want.

But I always enjoyed this forum because there was little negativity, and because all games and ideas were welcome. That hasn't been the case in the last few months. It's got to the point where it is souring the hobby for me.

I no longer enjoy it here. There have been a number of other, specific, incidents from members of the moderation team which have left me questioning whether or not I should be there and give any kind of support for this forum.

It has been fun. It's not any more.

God bless and goodbye.

Can't blame you really, as you know, I have similar feelings of late. All I would say is pop in every now and again to see how things are. My hope is that with time and the game/armies fleshed out some, people will mellow and begin to change their mind.

And if not, at some point maybe they'll get bored of just ragging on the game or people who might actually enjoy it. May not happen but I'd at least say keep an eye out in case!

I very much echo your thoughts though, I've gotten a lot less enthused about coming here too recently, keep having fun with the game though, there are others out there who are actually doing that!

Same here, not AoS-related though. This forum has become sort of a desert for painters.

The feeling I have is that the negativity against AoS is much less than one month or two ago.
People realize now that GW won't come back to WH.

Now, there is certainly a dramatic drop of enthusiasm compared to what we used to see - in addition to the normal summer drop.
There used to be flourishing conversations about anything, game or else. Many engaged people are suddenly gone. Come on! Even the Black Table has no comment on the forthcoming US election?

So the many who have an ongoing Empire army have no longer the mood to keep buying the odd model which will complement their army, and the few who started AoS have not yet found a website to call "home". I would have understood W-E to be a good candidate for that, but apparently most of the mod team would rather let the W-E boat sink - and blame GW - than embark for a new destination as you have tried to advocate.

I'd recommend you to stay, in the long run, you will get more support.
Man, compare to Druchii.net, we have a similar total disappearance of WH8 hardcore players, but there is no reason for new AoS gamers to come to that site when all it is about is Sigmarite and Khorne. It is even more depressing than here. But we still have hope!
At least, W-E still has Sigmar!

I see bitterness as inevitable. Here we have a site with many active members and it was originally dedicated to Warhammer Empire, but GW killed the game, so there are hard feelings over that. Add in the fact that GW tried to replace it with a radically different system and that's going to feed into the animosity rather than quell it. Plus it seems the majority of members aren't switching over to the new system, so that complicates things. Add in some smug nose tweaking by some during the banter when Empire players will still angry and that didn't help and provoked angry responses and retaliation. And some Empire players were going on the attack no matter what because they were angry their game was killed.

Personally, I don't know if there is long-term viability here anyway. Lack of a living game is a dire wound to this community in its current form though there may be some diehards that hang around. If more people start playing AoS then the community will morph and survive, but I don't know if AoS will ever generate as much interest as Warhammer (it remains to be seen). The game is still new and as such there's not much to discuss in the way of army construction and tactics--and the jury is still out on whether it's deep enough of a game for there to be any tactics.

That's a real shame to hear that, Darknight....

Well, I wish you the best and hope to see your return one day. Perhaps with the completed Legion of Myrmidia at your side. :::cheers:::

Same here, not AoS-related though. This forum has become sort of a desert for painters.

I think it's because Hagen and Alexis scared them all off. :-P

Sorry to hear DK, but I feel for your sympathies, but I for one will not bow to the vocal minority and will just continue to press on with AoS: Stormcast Eternals and soon when more becomes apparent with Free People and hope either or both can find it's home here besides The Empire of WHFB

As for painting I have come back strong with it :)

My sense is this is a case of letting feelings get in the way of making choices, and instead slowing down, being patient, and adding in a dose of resilience as well.  At the same time, in trying to look at the big picture of the choices GW has made, the very nature of what has occured seems has brought what has happened.  And this forum is going to experience the changes that it has, is, and will.  As for there being "little negativity", I disagree.  There has been varying degrees of negativity and positivity over the time I've been here, and these seem to ebb and flow like the tide.

Sorry to see you go, and hope things work out well for you. :icon_cool: :::cheers:::

Regarding W:AoS and W-E ... GW blew up the Olde World, but of course that is stating the obvious.  At the same time, they've included the Empire in the release of W:AoS through providing "war scrolls" for the Empire figures that were at least supported in WFB 8th edition, yet where this is going to go from there is questionable, because GW hasn't provided info regarding this.  Sure they've provided a new Stormcast faction related to Sigmar, but if this is the direction they keep as an "Empire" faction for W:AoS, suspect that will be disappointing to some who have frequented the W-E site over the years.  And at best the Stormcast faction is only remotely related to the Empire faction through the fluff provided that includes Sigmar's name and supposed presence.  As the old saying goes ... time will tell.

Well, it's your choice and I won't comment on that.

I like you though.

Indeed your enthusiasm for the new game will be missed. Good luck on your new adventurers.

I feel a little guilty for the negativity part in my last posts (discussing AoS rules, though ). But AoS has done anything but increase my enthusiasm for GW and WH! The net always rage against new things different to the old ones. Look at twitter... oh, better don't lookd  ::heretic::

Sorry to hear DK, but I feel for your sympathies, but I for one will not bow to the vocal minority and will just continue to press on with AoS: Stormcast Eternals and soon when more becomes apparent with Free People and hope either or both can find it's home here besides The Empire of WHFB

I totally agree, and since thanks to AoS I finally can play with my minis, I also came back to painting with a lot of strength. I'll be posting my work soon (High Elves, though, I hope no one minds being this a forum for the Empire  :icon_confused:)

No one minds if your high elves appear in the paint section. We're the Empire, variety is our strong point. :smile2:

Anything miniature related is allowed in the B&P

As for people leaving, I'm always sad to see someone go.

That said, I haven't played a game since AoS came out. It just isn't for me.
But those who want to enjoy it can afaic. A bit like I view 40K. Not for me, but feel free.

I don't understand why you ought to leave this forum. You can stay on it to talk about the Empire, and go on another forum when you want to discuss about AoS. I am a member of a french forum, but i came on this one because, even if it's in english (and i don't speak english fluently... hey, the guy on the back, i saw you laughing !), i am first an Empire player, so i can find more what i want here than on the warfo (french forum), which deals with all GW armies and universes.

For my own sake, i think a lot of people are not keen on AoS, because it is still seen as Warhammer's killer. I don't like AoS, not only because of that, but simply because i don't like what i read in its fluff, i don't like the sigmarines, i don't like the miniatures, there is no innovation for me, still the same gruesome communication policy, still the same staggering prices. GW didn't have to kill the Old World only to introduce bulky golden angels. That's what i think, but i won' tell it everytime i can, because it's useless. GW won't come back, GW doesn't care about what i think, about what customers think.

Wy don't you apply to be the AoS section moderator ? It could be resolve your issue.

I didn't know you, but if you think you must go, i tell you, in a good french :

Adieu et bonne continuation, Chevalier Noir !

I think, not to put words in darknight's mouth or anything, that the issue goes beyond people's reaction to age of sigmar.

I think it's more about the general vibe of the forum over a longer period. Back in the day there were a few people that were overly negative but they were vastly outnumbered by people much more upbeat.

Over time, especially through 8th and end times those two have noticeably switched, including many of the most frequent posters. The mood is more overridingly negative and sarcasm and downright anger are more often on display.

People trying to keep the mood positive are in for a rough time. I fully understand darknight leaving because it does begin to sour your feelings towards the hobby. Whilst I still feel like w-e is a fairly welcoming place, it's definitely not currently a place that is in love with warhammer in it's current state.

I'd personally like to see a bit more with regard to 'Empire' related topics on the forum. I started the 'what province are YOU from' thread a few weeks ago in an attempt to perhaps get a bit of chat going, but I never really see much actual conversation about Warhammer Empire, never mind many Empire painting logs. For all the talk about keeping the Old World alive, I don't see much action. Which is a shame. A lot of people talk a good game. I've noticed the AoS section being labelled the ghetto a few times, but in fairness, where are all the Old World posts that make the rest of the forum live up to it's name? In the words of Delia Smith: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_8JLkwzpd0

Darknight, you will be missed. Cheerio.
