This is our current Warhammer Empire WIKI. It will be a part of the site in full form shortly. Anything you can do to add to it will be appreciated!

Ok, I'll check it out, and touch base with Obi on how to proceed from here.
-
Maybe I should change my page to say something nice about myself.
-
I'm currently trying to figure out how to post images nicely. I'll find myself a wiki guide and link it from here :)
-
You are the man Obi.
Phil
-
Obi ... I pmed you. :icon_wink:
-
Woah, just looked at the registered users, what a mess. Is there a way we can begin cleanig up all that?
-
Maybe I should change my page to say something nice about myself.
Hey, you're mentioned as a king (admittedly of Spamalot, but king nevertheless)! I don't even have a page there...
-
90% of us made our own pages. I made a few starter pages for some people though. Feel free to get in there and get to work.
Gamespoet: Oh my god I never even looked at that... I will tell Calvin. Can we delete any of those?

They're all deleted (they no longer have a page). For some reason they're still listed though. You're a sysops by the way, too, phil ;)
In any case, GP, I'll get back to you once I have figured some stuff out about the wiki ;)
-
So are you Obi! Calvin has been playing in there I wager.
He can delete those bots (maybe you and I can too, not sure).
Phil
-

Yeah, I know. Who do you think has been removing all those spam pages ;)
-
I've started reviewing the pages. I'm leaving individual person's pages alone, and won't be altering anything on any page unless it sticks out. I'll start keeping a list of ideas, if I come up with any.
-
Could we get the link to the list of all pages up? Its a bit hard to know what is there w/o that.
-

A couple of heroes still need to be done.
-
Sorry, I meant a link on the main page.
-
So you want me to put that link on the main page, if I understand you correctly?
-
I think that would be helpful no? Or a tab on the side menu if that would be possible to add.
-
Work is proceeding slowly, yet smoothly on reviewing wiki pages. So far, correcting spelling issues, and made a couple of minor content changes. There is one page I've found that might need a serious content change, but I'll save this for further review at the end, in case other similar issues are found along the way, and then they can be taken care of all at once. :::cheers:::

Nice work so far! Can you mark that one serious page up on the discussion tab? That would be useful :)
-
Next time I'm on, I'll look around and see if I can figure out what you're talking about. :icon_wink:
-
Some parts of this are becoming disturbingly factual. That's not what a wiki is about at all!

It is? It isn't?
-
Hey now, plenty of room for crazy and fact in the same place!
Phil
-
Ideally, a wiki should be composed entirely of sarcastic lies.
-
I always assumed wikis should be as big as they can be, with as many entries as possible regardless of their validity or content.
Just kidding, though in many cases thats what happens!
Phil
-
Also, wikis are there to allow people to change correct things into incorrect things. Then other people change them back again.
Also, the verification thing is annoying.

Yeah the verification thing is annoying, better to have that show already instead of "after" initially "trying" to post...
-
Some of those word combinations would make great band names though.
-
Thank goodness Warhammer is just fantasy, not factual. :icon_lol: :::cheers:::

I'll get working on that part of it ASAP.
-
I like your burning panda thing on there.
-
It's awesome, itsn't it? Anyway, I could use some of your sarcasm to improve some of the pages I just edited. Can you guys help me out?
-
Sure.
If I get time between reviewing all the current topics.
:icon_lol:
(GP ... is that sarcasm?)
Maybe. :icon_lol:

This talking to yourself, is it a recently developed thing ?
-
It goes along with the two smiley per post minimum and the multiple posts with a single response per post!
That one is actually fading with time though.
:D
Phil
-
My grandmother always told me that it was ok to talk to yourself as long as you don't respond. It looks like it's too late for GP. :icon_eek:
-
This talking to yourself, is it a recently developed thing ?
I just blame it on the aging process. And there are those that say its a sign of seniality. :icon_lol:
Besides, the conversation is actually between me and my conscience. They have different personailities.
(GP ... they're going to think you're completely wacky now.)
Nah, they already do.

HEY! Folken modified my wiki page!!
http://warhammer-empire.com/wiki/index.php?title=Nicholas_Bies
-
Can't be, it says it's been modified september 2009
-
then it's been that long.
Originally it was like, "Nicholas Bies, god's gift to the warhammer world, expert general and amazing wargamer. Bow down to his presence for he is awesome."
quite a fitting montage if I do say so myself :engel:
-
That's a good example of sarcastic lies.
-
Click the 'history' tab.

My grandmother always told me that it was ok to talk to yourself as long as you don't respond. It looks like it's too late for GP. :icon_eek:
Wasn't there a bit in THHGTTG (or at least the original radio version) where the ruler of the universe complains that the problem with talking to himself is that half the time he already knows what he's going to say. When questioned, "only half the time?" he pauses, thinks about it and says, "yes, that's about right."
-
Yes, that was awesome.
Why don't you just say H2G2 though?
-
Because I'm old.
-
What is the criterion to judge whether a certain issue deserves a wiki site? Everything that has to do with WHFB and/or W-E.com?
'Cause sometimes I'm bored.
-
I suggest writing any old rubbish you like in it. That's what I've done.
-
Thanks! :-)
-
If it's too much rubbish and not enough old it might evaporate though....
:engel:

just asking this out of the blue here but...you guys dont think it would be a good thing to post constructive things on those wiki pages? that way youd get less questions here and if you get frequently asked questions you can just direct them to the wiki...or something maybe im just thinking to much on the subject? :icon_question:
take a look at the captain and general of the empire pages for example. so filled with bias that its really not helpfull to anyone....or make much sense for that matter
-
I was going to answer that question sarcastically, yet then I realized the sense in what was being written, and then decided to keep quiet.
-

OI! Be careful which pages you call crap :engel:
Could you be a little more elaborate though, I don't really get what you mean- and it's probably a good idea.
-

First, what do you consider biased in those entries? Just curious really. Second, it is a wiki, so you're more than welcome to add your two cents or modify the article entirely. I think no one who has written one of those pages considers himself to be the final authority.
:::cheers:::
-
Some contributions just get deleted by others, so its understandable why some might begin to wonder whether or not its worth the effort. The W-E website and the forums seems to work better than the wiki for obtaining info and as long as they do, the wiki won't likely see much traffic, although perhaps that is the intent.
-
I updated the General and Captain entries, I hope they give a more balanced and broader perspective now.
-

I can see what you mean, although the deletion process is strictly monitored (by me). So people should try to not feel offended when something they wrote is changed, but see it as an improvement.
-edit-
GJ Aldy- I've made some more adjustments.
-
Obi ... you haven't been the only one deleting folks' entries.
-
Obi ... you haven't been the only one deleting folks' entries.
I think you missed my point. If I read you correctly you mean that person X writes something up for say, the battle wizard entry. Person Y then updates and by doing so removes parts of X's writing. Yes?
If that is so- people should try to not feel offended when something they wrote is changed, but see it as an improvement.
-
Exactly. I wrote the Captain article, then improved it. Then Obi improved it further, added to it and organized it better. I think now it is rather good. That's wikis for you.
Besides, pervious versions are saved, so if I had disagreed with Obis changes I just could talked to him about it on the discussion page and changed it back.
-
I can see how the wiki can be a collaborative effort. I can see how some might be offended by such, yet improvements are one thing, and deletions without replacing with anything significant are another.
Its more a matter of writing being a waste of time and energy, if whole portions are deleted, with nothing of any significance replacing it, and I've seen that occur. Why spend time writing something when it just gets deleted on the wiki, but gets left alone on the forums or the website.
And discussions are fine, but when things aren't discussed, and different contents are changed because one person sees the wiki as one thing, and another person sees it as something else, how's the resolution to really occur? Creative time and energy becomes better spent in other ways.
-
I can see how the wiki can be a collaborative effort. I can see how some might be offended by such, yet improvements are one thing, and deletions without replacing with anything significant are another.
Are you being hypothetical, or has this ever actually happened on our wiki? If so, why?
In my humble opinion this is working fine so far, and i see no point in opening a debate "the pros and cons of wikis in general". If someone contributes to this one his stuff won't just get deleted if it contains more than links to pornsites. It might be modified, but I see no harm in that.
-
What Aldaris said.
Really, GP, i can see your point but pretty much telling everyone reading this thread they shouldn't bother perhaps isn't the best tactic
The point of the wiki is also to make the info more accessible, as the search function is completely ignored by anyone with less than 50 posts.
That being said, I'm having a great time reading various articles on the wiki. Does anybody remember for which post Phil won the 'worst advice of all time award'?
-

In the same post you quoted from I said ...
and I've seen this occur.
And as for the why, my gut tells me ... and I quote myself again ...
because one person sees the wiki as one thing and another person sees it as something else.

Perhaps. Yet ... "truth is beauty and beauty is truth". (Keats) Its beautiful what happens when the truth comes out.
The point of the wiki is also to make the info more accessible, as the search function is completely ignored by anyone with less than 50 posts.
Oh how very much I agree with you, Obi. Yet when sections of information are deleted on the wiki, that could discourage folks from using the wiki, although then again perhaps that might be the intent of doing such? :icon_wink:
That being said, I'm having a great time reading various articles on the wiki.
Me, too.
-
In the same post you quoted from I said ...

I wasn't sure if you meant on ours, or if you jujst saw it happen on some wiki. And if it was on ours, which article? I'd like to look at the deleted content.
-
I think he's referring to the umpteen user pages.
:engel:
-
Actually, I haven't checked any user pages lately in reviewing the wiki, but with Obi being an "engel", guess that's a reason to begin. :icon_wink:
Although I can think of one where the editing might need to be heavy, yet I'll save that example for another place and time.
-
I will admit to finding things people add and deleting them for my own amusement.
It's one of the small pleasures I gain from life.
-
Shut yer trap, ye scoundrel!
:biggriin:
-
Shut yer trap, ye scoundrel!
:biggriin:
For this I may have to make an Aldaris page...
Then delete parts of it, obviously.
-
I'm looking forward to it!
:-D
-
I'm not telling you when I do anything. :closed-eyes:
-

Don't go there! It was a joke. Spambots created pages and I deleted them for no good reason. I guess they're really sad their hard work was wasted.
By the way: why is the smiley called 'engel'. I know what that means (it's Dutch, probably German too though), but why didn't they just go for 'angel' or 'halo'?
-

Still didn't find out how to delete those users? http://www.warhammer-empire.com/wiki/index.php/Special:ListUsers
Can just anyone register for the wiki? Would make sense if only Warhammer-Empire members could. At least that's one barrier to keep it (more) clean.
-
Nope. I really should start making the wiki better again. With actual lay-outs and 8th edition stuff.
-
You right now motivated me to fill all the High Elf entries....but it doesn´t seem to work.

-
I forgot we had a wiki! It was useful for writing insulting things about forum members.
I imagine it will stay broken until the site gets a proper upgrade though.
-
I would love more insulting stuff about me in a wiki.....I also demand that my Tiara picutre is attached to my entry.
-
I promise to insult you when the wiki is fixed.
I think my wiki entry was quite nice about me!
-
Well....you ARE a nice person therefore they got it right.
-
Am I? Oh good!
-
Surely this is a phantoms converstion going on here ............... :icon_wink:
-
I also think I have to get more active in the paint and brush section this week. :closed-eyes:
-
Strange- it does indeed block all activity when logged in. The toolbox is also very empty.
Nothing we can do I guess.
-
An addition (wish) for the wiki: http://warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=37810.0
-
Has anyone noticed that the Wiki is actually hillarious? So many random things on there!
-
schlubba schlubba schlubba..
-
Okay, I have some free time this week, so I will work on the O&G section again.
-
Should we update the articles for 8th edition? I mean, the halberdier article is hilariously out of date. I started playing in 8th edition, so it's interesting how maligned they are in 7th edition. It's mind-blowing actually, given how they're pretty much the premium choice in our Core line-up.
With that said, how would you change it? Should we re-write the whole entire article, deleting the 7th edition input; or acknowledge how much they've changed in comparison? That is, should we add an 8th edition section in the contents?
-
Yes, we should, but as of right now the wiki is broken- you can't edit it.
-
Is it still broken?
-
Wow, was my post here still the last one?!
That's insane! XD
