So ... the Empire Militia Box ... do you still have some?
I was going through unpacked boxes of hobby stuff from my last move, and I located an unopened Empire Militia box. Believe I have another one, maybe more than one, hiding somewhere else as well.
Plus I have some sprues left over from a battalion box I have somewhere. And a bunch of bits hiding out, too.
-
During End Times I bought a box I haven't built, and when Death, Destruction and Chaos had a load of stuff go to Last Chance To Buy during the first year of Age of Sigmar, I bought another box, again not built. Best Empire box ever, but pre-empting it's possible discontinuation I got quite a few bits and pieces I thought might go during that period.
-
I still have plenty of bits in my box, but I would figuratively kill for some more of the militia kits. They were hands down some of my favorite. I bought two when they went out of stock and still wish I bought more.
So many options! I'm more sad that they don't go as easily with the new parts. Everything these days seems to be a lot more ball joint or curved pieces that fit together. Or maybe that's just the kits I've gotten recently.
-
There were and still are some excellent kits beyond the Militia Box ... Huntsmen, Pistoliers, Outriders. However, the Militia Box is missed, and thank goodness I have some to use in the future.
The whole concept of using the various bits to make various figures, in combination with themselves or other bits form other kits, this is what makes the box so versatile.
-
Yes, I do have some, unbuilt and semi-built. And a couple of them even stand on the painting table atm.
It was a great box for sure. Frostgrave and Perry plastics (with several command sprues) seem to be quite similar these days, althought with a little less options because of the one-part torso & legs. The new Northmen in the Fireforge KS could be the closest equivalent regarding the 'heroic' proportions. But they all have almost identical torsos. But add one or two spruefuls of bodies and arms from the Folk Rabble box (due to later), and you have a very nice collection of bits for ragtag fighters.
At the present, with an overflowing market of historical/fantasy multipart plastics, it's surprisingly easy to not mourn the withdrawal of the Militia/Free Company/Mercenaries box. :smile2:

Thou shalt worship thine holy militia and flagellant box sets for the possibilities are endless :engel:
-
The Flagellants are a great set too, very true. They are exactly what I wanted when I heard of plastic flagellants way back when. Opposite of the plastic minotaur bodybuilders, which I was prepared to but lots of but was brutally disappointed and never bought any.
-
I think one of my favorite things about the Flagellant kit is the way I've bought it multiple times and almost never actually used it to make Flagellants. The kit can be used to make so many different things. Especially lots of different wizards.

Same here. I find all manner of things to turn them into. A pity you only get ten in a box
-
I've got some militia bits and can probably build about 10 more figures. But knowing that I can't get them anymore, I'm hesitant to use them unless I have a really brilliant idea! Strange, given the humble nature of the subject. I'd love to get my hands on another box or two, along with the additional Mordheim bits.
-
I was in a panic this morning when I couldn't find all of my free company troops. Then I found a box by itself VIOLA! Forty fully painted free company and forty handgunners ready to go to battle!
-
Does anyone know if the militia box came first, or Mordheim? They are the same sprues. But I was wondering if the militia came from using the Mordheim sprues, or the game was using the already existing militia. This was before my time!
-
Mordheim was first
-
Just saw a militia box, I believe 6th edition era, being offered for sale at $120. :icon_eek:
Glad I have some militia boxes already. :icon_mrgreen:
-
I went through a couple boxes, mixing the regular state troop bodies with the militia ones. The interchangeability was endless! While I do miss it, I also feel that I did get my fare share out of the boxes and I am not terribly upset I can't have more.
Still have hundreds of other minis to paint and build!
-
I would have liked some more White wolf sprues. I really loved the hammer arms.
I guess you run out when you make 20 White wolf knights, 40 hammerers on foot (swordsmen), and a 40 on foot warrior priests unit...
-
I found four partly assembled militia men. How i wish GW would remake that kit

We all do, surely. I need that kit to bash zombies, gobbos, pirates, etc. Aaargh!
-
I have some militia bits. Are their specific items you're looking to have? I might be able to spare a few.
-
I'm ok, GP. I have some bits left myself. But my campaign has proven (re: zombie pirates, gobbos, and living pirates) just how useful the box is. If they brought it out for a limited run I would buy for just for future use, even if years down the line.
-
I'm working on the zombie pirate list as well, i'm hoping to get some bits or even 3rd party figs, i don't care much anymore, i don't want to pay DoW prices for the militia kit

Those are great.
Bring them over and my pirate army can fight them
-
Very nice. Pirates are the best!
-
Anyone hear anything on whether the Militia Box is returning :icon_question:
-
Now THAT is the true holy grail. I really hope so, I'd buy several of those. ESPECIALLY because there's so many new bits that would look sweet all bashed together with those bodies.
-
Empire Militia are listed separately from state troops for base sizes, so the odds are good the militia box will return.
-
Nice. I know i seen some pretty cool skaven slaves mixing the two. So why not zombies

Also, on page 6 of the 'Rumors and what's new to be expected for the Old World' thread, JoV posted some rumor quotes that seem to come from a German language forum (based on the time references), from a certain 'Mikhael', who states there will be new Militia (and Knights & Great Cannon).
-
New knights would be interesting.
-
Empire should have gotten new Knights back in 8th or something, or at least new barded warhorses. The Knights were 6th Ed. models but those horses were older!
-
Aww, a new militia kit will probably be bad. Oversized to that 32mm scale, little to no options.
I want the old militia kit back.
-
*blows dust off ten year abandoned account*
I'm pretty certain the melitia box will be back. It was only fairly recently removed from sale. It's one of those kits that GW would be mad not to re-release.
If they do update it, it won't be 32mm. the new Brettonia models fit very nicely with their older models, and thankfully steer clear of the over-detailed AoS style, but take advantage of sculpting/technology improvements.
There are better kits for them to update. As others have said, knights!
-
Are we sure we're an Empire forum? With all the old users coming back its starting to make me think we're a bunch of Tomb Kings! Risen from the Tombs of the internet once again!
I agree with the above as well. The Militia kit was beloved and still works. If they didn't update Bret Peasants I don't really see them updating the Militia.
New knights would be awesome. I'm curious if they will. The Brets are a major knight faction and didn't get updated sculpts, just a new unit sculpt. I'm curious if that'll be the plan for a lot of people. TK DID get some updated sculpts, so it is possible!
-
Militia kit is the pinnacle of GW kits and I will not be taking any further questions at this time.
-
A Tomb Kings website? Don't forget the Bretonnians!
Wait, wait, wait ... this is an Empire site, and a thread on the Militia box. :icon_wink: :icon_lol:
