"Pike" and shot lists? Viable?
« on: July 17, 2010, 10:11:34 PM »
With the new shooting rules and buffed artillery. Are pike and shot list viable to use?

Thinking of a core of
2-3 units of 20 handgunners + 10 HG/+15 Halberdiers detachments
2-3 units of 10-15 knights
2/2/2 cannons/mortars/rockets

Ok, I see the handgunners for the "shot", but where's the "pike" element here?

Might I suggest perhaps using some spears, since the Empire currently doesn't have an actual pike option?

I was thinking of using Halberdiers as a substitute for pikes.

Are big infantry blocks a must have or can we rely on shooting to wittle them to pieces before the knights charge in HG goes into cc?

Thinking of perhaps "semi"-napoleoninc/charls the XII kind of lists/tactics.

unidimensional lists are always rock papper scisors, the empire gunline is no exeption to this, i would advice against it.

You realize that pike and shot were large units of pike and small units of shot.   Normally 3/4 - 1 pike to shot.   So yes I would suggest that if you bring a few units of 50 Halberdiers with detachments of 15-20 handgunners you will do well indeed
