@Lord Bakemono: I find your painting effort at 8 years old better than mine at 14! (then again I did try to paint enamel paint with toothpicks, paperclips and cotton swabs isntead of a brush).

Games system was called Confrontation by a French company called Rackham. Its the "Fils d'Ogmios" ("Son of Ogmios" in English). They went bust early 2000's unfortunately. You can still find their minis kicking around on e-bay and other places, which is where I found him - but be prepared to bid - they're fast becoming hard to find and there's lots of Chinese boot-leggers selling crappy re-casts. Its a real shame they went under because they produced some of the best models ever made  :icon_frown:

I made the base myself though - big chunk of pine bark!

I don't know if I've got any "masterpieces" to show, and I don't have any photos (or know the whereabouts of) my first figure. But here's a photo of what would have been one of the first 10 or so figures I painted. The first two figures came with the boxed Battlesystem game. After that it was a box of Grenadier halflings...

Painted with my father's Testor's enamel paints. Soon after I bought some Polly S acrylics, which was my first big step forward in painting.

Hey, cut it out with the enamels jibe! If we were to take your comment as true, then I have not even taken my first big step in painting after more than 30 years of painting!

Are you trying to fill my head with doubts and fears? To make me wonder whether I have made a big 30+ year mistake? That I have gone so far astray from what is best that I am undone utterly, ruined and lost in my stubborn foolishness.

I refuse, completely, to make that step. I am gonna enamel my way in a contrary fashion until I enter the lonely realm of enamel painters' heaven. It'll be like Valhalla, but with just three blokes getting to share all that food and beer!

Isn't nail polish an enamel paint too? So, technically, you are also going to have women and gay men there too.

Cool. We'll find a use (probably quite different) for each of them. I'll not go into details as with my 'Valhalla-esque' head on it may offend!

From what I have seen Emus probably a lot of fleshmeat on them, so we can roast them on the spits over the huge central fire and eat them with sauces prepared by the other inhabitants of our increasingly crowded heavenly hall.

Let me amend that by stating that it was a big step forward for me. I just didn't like them and found the acrylics easier to use and easier to clean up. No offense intended to those who prefer them.

Now those people who use oil paints, on the other hand...

Glad I've just seen this thread as it just gave me a reason to look out some old models and photograph them.

These models are from my first stint in the hobby. I first started buying and painting miniatures in about '93 when i was age 8-9. I played 2nd edition 40k (I hear 40k has gone downhill since) from release in '94 to 3rd edition '97. I also played Necromunda and Warhammer Quest. In my eyes this was the golden age of Games Workshop. Sadly I havn't got my very first miniatures anymore (plastic beaky space marines and eldar striking scorpions) But here's some from '94-96 age 10-12:

The oldest painted model I have. '94 age 10

I've worked out these are all '95-'96 age 11-12

Then, after 10 years away from the hobby, in about 2006, after discovering skateboarding, girls, and beer. 2007 My brother and I decided to start Warhammer 7th Edition. This lasted about 1 yearHe chose Ogres and I chose the beautiful army of wood elves (hope an 8th Ed army book comes out and they will get resurrected):

Haha! Great thread. Nice to see all those ancient minis and Goblin Green bases!

Here's some Chaos Warriors. Some of the first minis I ever painted when I was about 10. Good to see I had the depraved Slaaneshii vibe down at an early age. Sorry if your eyes hurt!

Goblin Green bases, textured with sugar! Horrible.

And a couple of minis from last year.

Barbarian Dude from Raining Frogs Garage (and maybe the start of an Albion Army).

And my Giant Slayer, which got a finalist medal in last years Golden Demon, Open Competition. Was very pleased.
