Ork waidda is made from a standard landraider with large amounts of bitz from:
Rhinos
Stompas
Battle Wagons
Trukks
Stormboyz
Ork Boyz

Retinae?
:icon_wink:
I'm a bit confused because initially, I thought it was meant to be rust... but either way, nice painting, Philly! Must be great to see them on tabletop.
-
Love the ork waida.
Your armies always look so great phil.
-
Thanks Finley!
I am really trying to grind through the models now, since I need to go to a tournament next month. We will see how we do!
Phil
-
I have seen these in person and they look ten times better then the pictures. Mr PhillyT next time I see you I will show you a few photo taking things that will help with your flash glare and a few others that a photographer friend of mine taught me, when taking pictures of small things.
all in all though you know I love your models

That orange works very well with orc models.....

That orange works very well with orc models.....
I think so too.
I am tempted to do some orange armour for my fantasy bosses.
-
Love the raider Philly :-D I also like how you have made your orks look menacing rather than comedic.

Thank you fellas. Here are the stompa pics.

Excellent work.
Orc vehicles are amazing.

so cool :D
-
Seen the battlewagons and nobs before, yet glad theyb are all in one thread with new additions. More great work :icon_cool: :::cheers:::
Have continued using orange on my 40K Orks, too.
-
Thank you gentlemen. I will put up some more as I paint them.
-
I believe seeing your 40k orcs was the reason I painted all my Black Orcs orange. You are an inspiration.
-
Hey very cool!
I just like orange really. I play a death skulls army, which likes blue, but it is a cross between them and an evil sunz since I love vehicles. I ended looking at the completely red sunz stuff and decided that orange would look very good, or at least comparable!
Phil
-
I think they are rather lovely Philly. I've just started an orange and turquoise Empire army. I am a fan of the orange.
-
It was fun to peruse through the photos here again. :icon_biggrin:
If I recall, there are some more photos of the individual nobs somewhere, too. Maybe on that long 40K thread. Yet if there's a way to add them here that could be good!
Any new stuff since before?
-
The Gargant is excellent! I'm diggin' the Orange.
-
Thanks Patsy. I have three more to finish and paint!
-
Your vehicles are really good - especially the landraider mate - love the trophy pole colours and the oranges definately work well. Only negative thing I would say is I think the ork big mek would look better with some metal washes and more shading and highlighting across the model though, some of the areas are flat. I think I have grown to like orks quite a lot since I started my big mek a while back and I always enjoy seeing the crazy models for them that people make, great stuff.

I am super unhappy with that paintjob for all the reasons you mentioned. I am contemplating stripping it but I am going to wait until I have the rest of the army done.
-
I am contemplating stripping
Good for you! Pictures of your army only though, please, if it's all the same to you.
:engel:
-
No need to strip it mate, unless you have used thick paints on it or are unhappy with colours I guess. Just use what you have done as a basecoat. Its main problem is flatness, which is easily remedied.
dfb
-
Love the colour Philly! Orange is a really difficult colour to get to look right.

Agreed. A few more Checks (larger size checks would be great for variation) and some plates in a different worn out looking color. Maybe some faded blue plates?
-
I really like the orange ork color scheme. it looks more visually appealing then red. I dont know why. These are some great models Philly! :::cheers:::

Pictures I have of my ork stuff. I put it up elsewhere but it is worth putting up here I guess.

MOAR ORANGE PAINT ON DA BOSS!
-
I like the dreadnought especially!
-
He is one of those cases where I loved the model so much I needed to buy it even though I already had one old deff dredd. I prefer Kans and have 9 of them. The one deff dredd I have is for when I use a big mek. Those times I use two meks I field both (they become troop choices).
And Da Boss likes black and red!
-
I approve of your beard. It is a very good beard.
-
It is about three times that long now and my head is shaved, so it is an excellent beard and I look like a cage fighter/biker
-
When switching around channels a couple of nights ago, I hit a show called "bully beatdown", where MMA fighters are hired to humiliate bullies in cage fights.
One of the fighters looked quite like you. Jerry something, I don't know these MMA guys.
-
Not sure who that could be. They normally get lower tier guys for that show (injury potential) so many are only slightly known.
-
I just picked up some orks in a big trade on BarterTown. Here is my score:
60 SLugga boyz
30 shootaboyz
40 unassembled boyz
2 unassembled trukks
15 unassembed meganobz
25 Biker boyz
5 unassembled nobz
5 kommandos NIB
1 unassembled deff dredd
1 Stompa
All in all this is leading me towards my goal of having 20,000 points in orks. My basic load out is:
All of the special characters
7 Nob bikers
3x8 bikers with nobz
5 trukks
3 battle wagons
20 mega nobz
10 Flash Gitz
30 nobz
36 bikers
20 stormboyz
225 boyz of various types
3 deff dredds
9 Killa Kans
5 buggies
5 Stompas
2 looted wagons
16 burna boyz
16 Loota boyz
All of the character models
10 tankbustas
10 kommandos
20 gretchin
-
my goal of having 20,000 points in orks.
You know, there isn't the same social stigma there used to be associated with psychotherapy. If you feel you need help . . . :)
In all seriousness, that sounds pretty awesome. And crazy. And crazy-awesome.
-
Hey Philly,
Obviously you play orks quite a bit, im guessing from the huge volume of models you list. I would like your opinion on a couple of units in the book :)
Weirdboys. Are they worth a HQ slot? Can they compete with Big meks? Having read the book, they certainly appeal to me, but I don't have an Ork army, but my friend does.
Flash Gits: Are they worth the huge investment? If so, should you get all 3 upgrades or just pick one?
Kans: Given these have better bs than most of your army. What would you arm them with? Rokkits? Grotzookas?
-
Weirdboys. Are they worth a HQ slot? Can they compete with Big meks? Having read the book, they certainly appeal to me, but I don't have an Ork army, but my friend does.
I really can't ever justify it. The cannot compete with Big Meks with Kustom Force Fields, but they are probably better than the shokk attak gun. The thing that is good about the Meks is they let you move those Deff Dredds to troop slots. Weirdboyz are very good in their own way but they are too inconsistant for most games.
Flash Gits: Are they worth the huge investment? If so, should you get all 3 upgrades or just pick one?
I think they are certainly worth the points. Keep in mind that with a pain boy and cybork, they are about as good as vanilla nobz in combat and super durable. Their guns are just awesome for anti-troop. Take all three ammo runts for maximum power. Take all of the upgrades other than the +1 strength and they are great. The strength is good if you think you will be facing marines. Their biggest issue is they cannot take a dedicated transport and they eat a heavy slot which is not something you can afford. If they could take a dedicated battlewagon they would be in every army! But spending a slot on them then a wagon would mean only a single heavy would be left.
Kans: Given these have better bs than most of your army. What would you arm them with? Rokkits? Grotzookas?
I arm them with rokkits mostly since I play a hundred shoota boyz at least. Grootzookas are great too though and really good for anti-troop. But in an army severly lacking in S8 shooting, they really need to be armed with those rokkits! In a pinch, if I think I am playing a lot of terminators, I run mega blastas.
-
So many models! Are you ever going to use them all at once?
-
I would love too, but it would be pretty rare. We play a good amount of apocolypse, so dropping 13,000 - 15,000 isn't that unheard of. The most I have ever used is 8000. I normally have a partner to help run them though. Like I said, my dream is 20,000 but I also have no illusions that I will ever truly be able to paint them all.
Much of the reason I have them all is so I can field every kind of army there is from green horde to speed freak to dredd mob. I love them odels, the play style, and the variety.
Would be nice to have some sort of reliable shooting...
-
Yep, but its Orks. :icon_lol:
-
There is always hope that 6th edition and a new book might give some orks some form of targetter/gitfinda type thing to improve the BS of some units like lootaz/meks :-D
Deff dreads as troops, cant capture objectives. So all your are doing is shifting them into troops slot. Don't you use all your troop slots Philly? I thought you played large points games :-D
How do you deal with armour with Orks? What happens if you come against multiple landraiders/monoliths? In my experience playing against orks, they really struggle to fight against armour 14. Even powerclawz are not brilliant, especially if the tank blows up and takes your orks with it. That really only leaves DCCWs as a valid option doesn't it?
20,000 points is considerably easier to purchase than paint, with pretty much every army I can think of! Good luck with that. How large a table do you play on for 13-15000 points? When I play with my guard army, I often struggle to deploy 2000 points on my 6x4 table.
-
I use deff rollas, boarding planks, and power klaws for high armor. Deff rollas work best since those d6 S10 hits can be pretty brutal. If there is still a PK ork inside, he will then use the boarding plank for 3 - 4 S9 attacks. That will generally ruin the vehicles day at the very least. It isn't ideal, since it requires the wagons get right on top of the landraider. Monoliths are easy to reach on the other hand.
For troop I normally go one deff dredd, 1 nob unit, and 3 - 4 units of 20 - 30 ork boyz plus a unit of gretchin if I didn't fill out with orks. HEavy slots are far more important than troop.
As for playing, 3000 points fits pretty easy on 4x6. At 8000 points per side we pay on an 8x12 floor area we tape off.
-

You can tell you live in the US! I don't know a single person, including people who have houses worth between £200,000 and £400,000, who has enough spare room to put a 8x12 floor table in! :-D Heck, most new houses built here would struggle to fit that entire space in a room.
Deth rollas look great as well. I was attempting to explain the awesomeness of them to my ork opponent, but he can't see why he wants to risk a death or glory with them. Hes not grasped its mostly for running over tanks.
-
LOL, I have a 2500 square foot house. It is considered a slightly above average house in terms of size here in Maine. But my ex-wife said something similar about houses in Wakefield. She said houses in England are very... economical!
But if we were going to play at 12000 per side or so, I think we would need to play at my sister in law's store. She has an area that is empty and roughly 25" by 50"
-
You have much more land in the US than we do over here :-D We have 68 million people in space significantly smaller than nearly any one of your states.
Wakefield is not far from me, and the houses seem similar sizes to around my town [I spend a lot of time working there]. I actually have a fairly sizable house by standards around Yorkshire and Humberside, its 3 bedrooms and only I live there! My two spare bedrooms are now my games room and my model storage room :-D
If I was "lucky" enough to own a new build house, most of them are microscopic compared to mine. If I removed all my sofas, I could play a 25x8 foot game in my living room, but wouldn't have anywhere to sit! The only realistic avenue for my group to play bigger games would be to go to our local gaming club, but its full of people who think deodorant is optional!
How many FOC do you use at 12,000 points? Is it 1 per 2000 points? Sorry for derailing your thread Philly!
-
Apocolypse disregards the FOC. You use everything you have and go from there. It does have formations which help to tie things together.
-
Ah okay.
Never played Apocalypse though I have many many points of models. I just struggle to deploy them. I suppose if your orks are in transports its not too bad, but units of 30 orks spread out to avoid too much damage from templates fills huge amounts of space!
Got another question for you :)
Are mega armour nobs worth including? It seems to me that regular ork nobs can get invunerables and feel no pain, but mega armour can't, and is stuck with what is essentially artificer armour.
-
I adore meganobz! I think they are about my favorite model besides bikers. They look and feel awesome.
The issue with them is exactly what you mentioned, they cannot get an invulnerable save unless you play a special character. If you use him, then they are pretty good. The do have some advantages. Under normal circumstances, they are better than nobz. They are only 40 points, while a naked nob with a power klaw is 45 (and only AS6). But adding a painboy (50 points) gives nobz feel no pain. If you pay 5 points for cybork, you get a 5+ invulnerable save. This makes them slightly more survivable. Also, you cannot play wound shenanigans as easily. Add the fact that meganobz take forever to get anywhere (slow and purposeful) requiring a transport at all times, and you have a tougher time taking them. Now a unit of 10 will ruin anyones day, but it is still a haul and they fight for precious elite slots, the tightest slots in the ork army.
-
Nomally slow and purposeful isn't utterly terrible if you have either rapid fire or heavy weapons to the squad, where relentless actually does something. I suppose you could load up on combi rokkets/scorchas with mega nobs, but then you lose twinlink on your shootas. Really they should be combi bigshootas!
I used to love Nazdreg but he seems to have vanished from the current ork book. Probably because his gun was too overpowered for 4th edition! Back in 2nd edition I had a small badmoon based army, but thats long gone.
Thanks for answering my orky related questions Philly.
-
In response to the tiny UK housing, I'm in awe of US houses, for the same price as a two up, two down you'd get about 4 acres of land stateside.
A simple little trick I guess is folding table in the garage (if you're lucky!), hang it on the wall. Of course, then you'd have to leave the car on the street...
-
I have 8 acres and the 2500 sq ft house and it is valued at only $145,000. This is rural Maine though and thats about average for a home.
Back to the meganobz, a great use for them is at mid level games. A unit of 4 in a trukk is only 200 points. It is fast, should have enough other models around to break up shooting, and can offload 16 S8 WS4 attacks with 8 wounds and a 2+ save. Really a dangerous package and similar to suicide Terminators. I would give a couple skorcha add ones. Skorchas are really a great choice. I never buy rokkits.

I would have thought the main use for meganobs was to take on hard enemy units who don't have a lot of power weapons and ideally have no powerfists. Then just charge them! Admittedly most of these units are not particularly mighty in combat, but some units can throw a bucket load of regular attacks against you, or have good armour but poor attack values. Im thinking things like other orks, most eldar, guard, most normal marines, all tau units ever, most tyranids that are not MCs/Rending/Bonesword armed. Actually there is quite a lot out there they are better than regular nobs against.
Obviously the main reason to use them is the great models :-D Thats often why I include things that are not supposedly brilliant!
Off topic: By my rough calculations I have around 1000 sq ft space in my house and 1300 sq ft garden. This is large for my town and especially considering it is only worth about £86,000. Its only due to the "quality" of the area I live in though. If I lived where my parents did, their house and garden was smaller than mine but the house was worth £150,000.
My second largest bedroom is my games room. It fits chairs, a pc and 6x4 foot gaming table, all the terrain etc we need and most of my models are stored in there. I couldn't fit an 8 foot wide table in there though due to having a strange shaped room, with the chimney going through it.
What I mean by all this is Philly is very lucky! :-D

I think all of us are very lucky, as we have houses and internet connections :)

Too true!
I love the Ork Biker boss I got. He looks amazing. His right arm is a little short, but the rest of him looks so good it doesn't matter.
I will finish him and post pics by Saturday.

Nice stuff, Phil!
-
I like the trike, although I would prefer it to be on a 60mm base if I was playing against it :-D
-
That's my waaagh banner model. I probably would have put it on that, though bikes have no real base size. The oly bases I have ever gotten in my kits came when I bought them solo. In the battalions they don't even come with those set bases!
-
I put my attack bike on a 60mm base, tho god knows how I am going to paint it now! I really like how you have done mud grooves on the bases though, really shows them cutting up the grass as they drive over it!
-
My vehicles all have mud all over the lower 20% of them. I like to think they go ramming through the terrain like the space rednecks they all are!
I have another 32 bikes to paint, but right now I am doing ork shoota boyz (I have tons of other models painted but a pathetic number of orks actually done). I will then do another trukk.
I am using forge world rust and it is actually looking pretty good!
-
I love the bike squad! Great work.
-
Love your stuff Phil! You collect Orks like I collect Empire... gotta have enough stuff to field any possible combo. I expect my Ork army will be collected the same way because they just have so many great looking options. My weekend plans of assembling and basing the rest of my guys fell through when somebody ordered 18 pies for Saturday, so instead of light prep-work on Friday, it ended up being a crazy scramble to prep everything needed on Friday.
The Stompa looks great, I bet they are a bucket of fun to assemble and paint! I kinda want to buy one of them next, even though I don't have enough stuff to play with, just because they are so cool.
Love the boss on the bike. What an absolutely badass model.
My gaming room got turned into storage when we built the big kitchen in our basement, but now I have a 1000 square foot store, I'd love to take a Sunday and host a few people for snacks and carnage.
-
I love orks. They really do lend themselves to many styles of play. And the models are second to none. I you like the ramshackle appearance and mad max approach, they are a joy to paint.
-
:eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:
I love those bikers! They look business - and probably mean it as well on the tabletop! Great job! (Not mention how great it is to find others with a 40k itch!) Keep up the good work!
-SirU
-
Thanks! I will be posting my unit of 20 ork shoota boyz tomorrow.
-
Great looking bikers! :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::
Inspires me to get some. Too busy painting other things at the moment though.
-
Well here is my 2500 point list fully painted and based. The stompa is not included in that point total but I wanted to put down everything that I had painted! After playing orks for five years I finally have a painted army! Pretty rare really.

1 Big Mek with KFF
8 Nobz in battle wagon
7 Nob bikers
3 killa kans

Wow Phil, those look sweet. Love the orange. I'm still assembling my dudes... so many gubbins to paint :icon_mad: No wonder it took you 5 years to paint them. They look great all set up together though.
-
Is that bare grey plastic I see stuck onto the looted landraider philly? On the ladder/boarding plank and some other bits?
-
That army looks great, phil.
-
Orktastic Orks, Phil!
Waaaagh!
-
I like how his kitchen walls are also green. In my mind, it's because he got into such a painting fit he just started painting everything green. The kitchen walls ... the cat ... the baby ... his wife ... his beard ...
-
The army shots look super! :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool: :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::
-
Thanks guys. No, there is no gray plastic in the pictures! I do have another 12000 points of orks to paint though.
I finished another unit of 12 shoota boyz and their trukk last night. Working on another set for a total of 3 painted trukks and the boyz inside. I am looking to do a unit of ten meganobz and another unit of the new Kans next.
-
That's what I'm talking about! WAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Great job! I also concur that the orange is a nice touch. Looks great!
And that Land Raider is SUPERB.
Kudos.

Just another 12,000 eh? Thats some work! How many points in total do you have?
-
I actually have 16,000 points in orks, though 4000 points of it are my 5 stompas.
-
Thats quite a lot. I thought my 7000+ points of eldar that I have been collecting sixteen years was a large army, but you must have hundreds of boys. I have over 350 models in my eldar army!
-
I have in the neighborhood of:
250 boyz
50 nobz
20 meganobz
9 kans
3 deff dredds
3 battle wagons
5 mooted wagons (3 are boom guns)
25 stormboyz
36 warbikers
24 deff koptas
5 buggies
20 Tank Bustas
10 Flash Gitz
12 kommandos
5 stompas
1 skullhamma
5 warbosses
15 burnas
15 lootas
5 trukks
30 gretchin
1 skokk attak gun
2 KFF meks
Every special character
So it is quite a heap of models.
-
Yeah that is quite a lot of models! Considerably more than any armies I have, except maybe skaven :-D
-
I just traded about $1200 in Orcs for an equal amount of orks, which is where about 40% of those models came from. Otherwise I would have been fine with what I had before! Of course it is great to get all those bikes.
-
By Gork. It's bootiful.
-
So I was inspired last night and made a new war boss out of bitz I had for a campaign we are starting. As the war boss of my entire Waagh, I modeled him after Lord Humongus from mad max. He is Dakkalord Orkmongous! Can you name all the parts? They come from six different models. Two parts will be very hard.
I included my special edition black Orc who I turned into a nob along with a few other models for size comparison.

Okay,
I see a banner pole top as a helmet, an Ogre body, a dreadnought powefist left hand, an armour plate off a vehicle kit as a groin protector. Im not familiar enough with the ork range to tell you where the shoota came from though.
-
Sweet! Excellent! :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::
Suddenly realized the silliness of using that word with an Ork figure ... lol.
-
Any bits from a Stompa?
Anyway the kustom boss looks kick ass as every ork should. No red paint accidents with this guy :engel:
-
Hey I love blood! As any good butcher should.
No stompa bitz. Like crimson said, yes the head is from the black Orc banner pole. The arm is a dreadnought. The body is of course a tyrant.
Now the right arm should be easy for any ork player to figure out. The really hard ones are the belly plate and he upper left arm. Both are pretty rare bitz from very limited edition models. This thread has one of the models the belly plate came from.
-
I think the right arm might be from Ghazghkull (sp?)
-
Yes! Painted and modified slightly to look entirely cybernetic.
-
I think I am mistaken but is the gut plate a metal black orc big boss sheild?
-
Close enough! If you don't have the model it is hard to ever know!
The shield is normally attached to the back of that Black Orc boss featured in the pictures with Dakkalord Orkmongous. I removed it and put the power big choppa on him. I then had the shield laying around and decided it would look great on the Dakkalord. I have only seen the shield in a couple images since most photos of the boss are from the front.
I will tell you the last piece since it would be VERY hard to se. The upper left arm is from the special edition Ogre Bruiser who came with the original Ogre Kingdoms army box (the $200 one) in 2003.
-
I am currently doing a unit of 3 buggies, two the normal units and one the old trukk which almost identical in size. What god awful models for the orks but the buggies themselves are rather cute.
-
Okay, these buggies are adorable.

I need to rust them up a bit but I will do that when I do the rest. Really getting good work done.
-
I really like the buggies!! I was thinking about doing a feral ork army but it never got off the ground. Not enough money or motivation.
-
For the time those old ork Gorkamorka models were great, the Militia box of 40k really. Small yes, but that's really the only complaint. Great times zooming the boyz around the desert trying to hang on to trukks and avoid the docs at all costs. Your opponent rolling up a squig brain transplant was hilarious.
Orkmongous needs to be named Orkomongous instead, makes it roll off the tongue easier! Otherwise great name.
-
I like the name and after getting them painted I really do like those buggies. They fit my evil suns perfectly!
-
I hate it when I heron out of bullets. :engel:

Noticed you're using the Game Color orange, is that just for your highlighting?
Its evident that the Macharius is your main color, and thats what I've always used for my Orks as well. Snapped up a couple of extras when GW switched paints, and their new base orange is not the same as Macharius, so glad I did.
-
I use Marcharius for a base, wash it with Devlan mud, then put a midtone of marcharian down. I then use feiry orange Game Color (the brightest orange) for the highlights. This is the fianl orange I will use. At first I used only two oranges from game color. I then moved to just the foundation and a wash. this one gives me the depth to have a nice look.
I too bought 10 bottles of the Marcharius orange! 7 from an Amazon retailer and 3 from my normal distributor. That will be more than enough to finish all 15,000 points of orks.

I use the same orange from Vallejo, Philly. Does yours constantly separate in the bottle? Mines always in need of a shake up, its my only fault against an otherwise brilliant colour. I stocked up on Devlan mud and a couple of other colours before the change :-D
-
My bottle doesn't seperate at all, though it is 4 years old and I am curious if the other bottles I recently bought are a different kind.
I will have a unit of 10 meganobz ready for tomorrow morning.
-
Here are my meganobz!

-
Robo-orks! Nice!
Why do they have exposed heads though? Idiots!
-
In their defense though there really isn't anything important inside the ork head.
What is scary is that the unit would cost $200 if one were to go out and buy it today. I bought my first Meganob in 2001. The model cost me $10 retail. They have doubled in the last 11 years.
-
Ha, good point! Anyway, they look great.
That's a pretty shocking price increase though.
-
Thank you! I actually bought mega nobs in 2001 for a chaos conversion. I liked them so much I decided I wanted an ork army some day. Once I finally got one I wanted meganobz even though they aren't really super choices.
I am finishing the conversions on my flash glitz and then moving to painting struck and 12 shoota boys. After that I think I will move on to my dread mob list since I know have about 4000 points painted.
-
Wow these guys look cool!
Just for the record, how tall are they?
I have some spare nob heads and some plasticard, I was thinking about scratch building a few.
That would keep me occupied for some time. :icon_biggrin:
-
At the shoulder they are the same height as the black reach nobz. Over at The Waaagh forum there was a guy who made some AWESOME nobz. They were quite large.
Here are all of my models in one set:
http://warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=42461.0 (http://warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=42461.0)
-
Thanks man! :icon_biggrin:
It's time for a new project.
-
If they ever redo them, expect them to be much bigger. The is no way a normal nob could be crammed into the current meganob body. That said, the meganobz have really stood the test of time. They look great for being 13 years old or so.
-
A doubling of price in 11 years isn't that unusual; isn't that about the general rule?
Regardless, your Orks look fantastic, Philly - I really like them. The orange is so bold and such a great contrast. To have the guts to carry that off on a whole army . . .
And maybe Meganobz are smaller than regular Nobz because they don't have the pressures to grow stronger and larger, living as they do inside their armor?
-
I dunno Darknight. When I started playing marines were £10 for 10, Rhinos £10 etc. Although the kits were terrible compared to their existing ones.
In fantasy, its probably worse than that. I started skaven when clanrats were 8 for £5, then they released the monkey type rats, 20 for £12, now they are around £20!
I own 15 eldar Wraithguard. I paid £6 each for the first two I bought 16 years ago. I then got a further 8 from ebay for a tenner, then a further 5 for £1! Its just a case of looking around for bargins.
-
Thanks Darknight.
As for the models, what makes me realize the cost changes is the fact that unlike most models that have had price hikes, the meganobz are still the same model! Most of the time price jumps come with model replacements or repackaging. This one is just a straight jump from blister of one to a blister of one.
-
Size differences is the most annoying thing with new models for me. I wouldn't mind having older, less attractive models if the scale was even across the ranges! But using Fantasy as an example, having the last generation VC skeletons (huge and made of suck) with the new generation (smaller and awesome) looks ridiculous purely because the old ones are something like 15% larger and tower over the new ones. So old meganobz would be ridiculous next to the hypothetical new ones which is sad, because they rule.
Your meganobz look great. Meganobz are the epitome of orkiness.
-
Thanks Darknight.

Quite a few models do that though Philly. Do you ever use all those nobs? They look great by the way :-D
I bought Dante for marines when I played blood angels way back, I think he was £4 or £5 in what may have been white metal possibly before that though. The exact same sculpt is £10.50 in resin. Oddly Mephiston who was the same price, is now £12.30 but still in metal!
-
Well there aren't many of them left. I was really commenting on the fact that I remember this one in particular. The price hikes have been consistant across the board.
-
Wraithguard not so much. They were staggeringly expensive at £6 in the mid 90s, but they are only around averagely expensive now. Same goes for the eldar jetbike which has gone up £1 in a decade and half, and the marine bike has done the same.
-
Here is my new deff dread! I like him quite a lot. He is in a charging pose and his grot rigger is flying off the back.

Apart from my usual smart ass comment about his opponent being a red paint factory, he looks awesome. Nice posing in particular.

His opponents were the pulped remains of the dark eldar today. I thought I was much more subdued this time around. I used a transparent paint.
He looks like he is about to run through a wall!

Like the rules on the new ork fighters. I am getting the jet, but since it is one per FA, it may be a tough one to fit in. If they remove the FOC it will elp. Here are the new rules:
MagicHat has amended the rules he's posted from WD - changes in green:
The Ork fliers are fast attack and non-squadron. They are not tanks, so can't ram. They are not open-topped.
Dakkajet
BS2, Av 10/10/10, Fast Skimmer, Supersonic, Aerial Assault, Waaaghplane, Strafing Run, Fighta Ace (upgrade), 2 T/L Supa-Shootas (may buy a 3rd).
Burna Bommer
BS2, Av 10/10/10, Fast Skimmer, Supersonic, Aerial Assault, Waaaghplane, Burna Bomb (x2), Skorcha Missiles (may buy upto 6), Grot Gunna, T/L Supa-Shoota.
Blitza Bommer
BS2, Av 10/10/10, Fast Skimmer, Supersonic, Aerial Assault, Waaaghplane, Boom Bomb (x2), Grot Gunna, T/L Supa-Shoota.
* Supa-Shootas = 30", S6, AP4, Assault 3.
* Supersonic = May move flat-out upto 36".
* Aerial Assault = May move at cruising speed and still fire all weapons.
* Strafing Run = BS3 against all targets except jet bikes and skimmers. Pinning.
* Waaaghplane = May fire assault weapons twice during a waaagh.
* Fighta Ace = BS3 against all targets (upgrade).
* Burna Bomb = S5, AP4, Large Blast, Ignore Cover Save, Single Use, Drop in movement phase (not if moving flat out).
* Skorcha Missile = 24", S5, AP4, Small Blast, Ignore Cover Save, Single Use.
* Grot Gunna = T/L big-shoota, BS3.
* Boom Bomb = S7, AP4, AP2D6, Small Blast, Single Use, Drop in movement phase (not if moving flat out), Roll 2D6:
2: Crash, scatter 2D6 and put down a large blast, S9, AP2.
3-4: The bomber and the target both takes a S9, AP2 hit, no bomb drops.
5-9: Bomb drops, scatters D6.
10-12: Drops bomb as above, shoots with the supa-shoota (all hits pinning) and may then fire again it the shooting phase.
* Red Paint Job = Upgrade available to all. Same cost as in Ork codex.

Very nice army Philly. I really like them orks as they are so funny but at the same time mean. Yours are also gorgeous to look upon. The orange colour scheme and the dirty pigment look are great. :::cheers:::
-
lovely. Loving the jetpack trails!
-
They look amazing. I bet those jetpack dudes get knocked over a lot during games though!
Is that the new ork plane already? Fast work!
-
the new ork plane looks awesome. and your paint job makes it even better.
I wish the new space marine plane looked as good as the ork stuff. Instead I get a box with jet thingies and guns on it.
-

Thanks as always guys! I really trust your opinions!
I saw someone do something similarwhile poking through Google image search. I couldn't find what that guy had done so I tried something and had it work. The center component is one of those coat hangers from when we were kids rufus, back when they made them out of a kind of metal that requires me to squeeze with all my might on wire clippers until they snap. They are so strong that pliers are needed to bend them into nice rounded curves! I then super glued the foam bushes on and primed them, assuming that would make them strong enough. I was wrong. I ended up coating them with watered down PVA for a little extra firmness and it has worked quite well.
As for tippiness, if you have ever seem the storm boyz in their normal state, they act like dominoes. They are too light and tall. I actually found that the weight of the coat hanger plus careful positioning to ensure they are even over their base kept them the same as an unmodified one. I then super glued nickels to their bases (an American coin almost exactly the size of the hollow portion of a round base). They are actually very stable all things considered. I am currently painting 5 more and the most ambitious one is doing loops and will probably need a 40mm base to stay stable enough for play.
And I got the plane on Monday, assembled it, primed it, and partially based the orange that night. I probably only had to put 11 hours into it and it. I was pushing so I could use it in a game on Saturday!
-
I glue 1 pence pieces to the bottom of a lot of my plastic models, they fit quite well under a 25mm base and give stability.
Are you not worried about giving people huge line of sight advantages by the sheer height of those stormboys? Unless that is the plan, to get them shot up? :-D I do love the paint work though, the Orange is very strong, but just muted enough to look orky.
-
Have you seen this Phil? It's pretty cool I heard some people were gonna use it as one of the bombers. http://puppetswar.eu/product.php?id_product=119
-
Crimson, sometimes you just have to say "Rules be damned!" and do something that just looks cool. Of course some people could complain he's trying to take advantage of the LOS rules to gain better LOS!
-
I would assume most people would accept the regular height of the model, though if they don't I am fine with that. To be honest, the unit isn't very good so I will rarely use them other than to have cool looking models! If they ditch the FOC I will use them regularly and just enjoy it.
-

I just noticed the Birds of North America book next to the Stormboys in this picture. I just find that humorous considering you have a bunch of flying Orks next to it.
P.S. Seeing that book makes me wish I had gotten my father's copy of the book when he passed away! Bird watching was one of his pass-times and I didn't even think of getting that book from his stuff. I remember looking through it many times. I'm sure it's gone by now.

Ha, they should be really sturdy then!
Orange really does look good with green skin. And the plane looks fantastic.
-
The Bommer looks fantastic.
Reminds me of old MiGs, .......... and the Lego Stunt flyers set.

Great idea with the coat hangers - we, or I, still use them over here, so easily available - were you not tempted to make them smoke trails rather than the green foliage?
-
I stopped in my local store on Saturday for free RPG day. The manager, who regularly does some crazy things, had ten yellow Ork planes on his painting table. Two of them were completely finished and the other 8 were approximately 75% completed. He'd done them all since the previous weekend when I was in there. I asked him why he had so many and he said he needed them for an Apocalypse game he'd played during the week. It was quite impressive seeing the ten of them there on the table. So I now set a new bar for you PhillyT!
-
Lol, I have five stompas. That is my apocalypse contribution!
I have three planes but the bomber needs to wait. I need 10 shootas, and 10 lootas done up for my 2500 dredd mob list.

Wow, amazing job on that ork jet Philly. Did you airbrush any of it, or all brush? The paint coat looks so even. How many hours did you spend on it?
Cursain
-
Well hop to it then, I want to see a proper orange Ork Air Force!
I didn't realize just how much the orange dominates your army until I saw your battle report in the other thread. It really does work good with the Ork green. It's not a very common color scheme for Orks and it's nice to see them all on the table like that.
-
Great job on the Dakkajet! I love the model and your steady even paint-job really makes it shine! The stormboyz aren't bad either ;)
-
Here are my completed Stormboyz:

They are magnetized and the movement tray has steel washers. This keeps them from doing the domino effect which is common for even unmodified stormboyz.
And here is my mega dredd! Great model with a ton of character:

They are adorable and took only about an hour and a half each.
-
They look great!
-
Perhaps a tiny bit too checkery but I was really pleased with them. They will be the last of my orks for a little bit since I am taking the 1440 points in painted necrons and boosting them to 3000 points. I now have 5580 points in painted Orks which is a great accomplishment for me given my previous painting habits. Since April, I have painted 3000 points in orks including:
12 sluggas
40 shootas
10 meganobz
6 kans
1 deff dredd
1 battle wagon
1 Dakkajet
2 trukks
3 nobz
7 nob bikers
2 war bosses
1 biker boss
1 Mega Dread
10 storm boyz
3 buggies
That feels good!
-
Brilliant! Especially the baby tanks!
-
In the last 2 weeks I did:
1 Burna Bomma
6 lootas
5 Flash Gitz
7 Bikers
In a 1500 team game I am playing a terrible army list, but I wanted to use all of them!
Army:
1 Big Mek - Power Klaw, bosspole, Kustom force field
Elite:
6 Lootas
Troop:
10 gretchin
25 Ork Boyz - Nob with HA, bosspole, power klaw
2 big shootas
Fast:
1 Burna Bomma - 4 skorcha rockets
1 Dakkajet - 3 supa shootas, fighta ace
7 Warbikes - nob, boss pole and powerklaw
Heavy:
1 battlewagon - 2 big shootas, deff rolla
10 flashgitz - Painboy. 3 ammo runts, shootia, blastia, and MORE DAKKA
Honestly, this is a garbage list, but it will be fun and my playing group isn't that competitive. Flash Gitz, I love the idea and loved converting and painting the models, but god are they ever too expensive.
-
Dropped 15 ork Boyz and just took baddruk.
-
So with the new book around the corner some interesting things are popping up:
1. The Gorkanaut. Ummm.... I love orks. I love Stompas. I am not really into this guy. Current rules are as follows:
Claw - S10 AP2 Concussive
Super Gattling Gun - 3d6 shots, S6 AP4 36"
Transport capacity 6
If he is a 13/13/something, maybe. If his movement is 12" then yeah. But he is actually pretty ugly from the single available picture (and not ork ugly, just ugly). IF his rules mirror Knights, which is one rumor though I don't buy it, then yes, he has a real role. I may just modify my mega dredd to match his rules.
Other rumored models look good. Curious to see what they do to correct the competitive issues. Really, the army is due for more of a 2011 DE update than a 2014 Astra one. The book is 7 years and 3 editions old at this point.
-
I'll be honest, apart from a few entries needing plastic (flash gitz, mega nobz) I don't think they need much by way of models. Maybe new koptaz?
You could make them viable in a few steps only.
Cheaper points costs. Some dramatically.
Two new rules:
Cunning but brutal - Orks using infiltrate or scout may charge first turn. Orks arriving via outflank may charge the turn they arrive.
Brutal but cunning - where an ork unit would receive a cover save from intervening gretchin, all hits may be resolved against the gretchin instead. Gretchin never have "objective secured".
I think a points rebalancing to emphasise combat over shooting would do it play style wise. Such a great army already, theme wise.
-
Truly, no ork player selects the army for its power, they choose it because it is the greatest in the land!
So here is the Morkonaut. I must say, it looks great! I will buy one! IF only because I have a dredd mob army!
http://imgur.com/7kJKalA (http://imgur.com/7kJKalA)
-
Love it!
Phil, bringing them up in power would mean I see them more in competitive environments, I want that! Always an awesome game.
-
Oh I would love to see them improve, I am just saying that orks are the one army I honestly couldn't care less about concerning their relative power level. They epitomize fun and the joy of the game to me.
Look at this pick, he is a porkchop and i love him!

Those must be the new mega armoured nobs in this link as well
-
is the book really 7 years old? damn
-
Summer or fall of 2007 if I recall!
Yeah Friday, those are the meganobz. Look good, though I won't buy any. Supposedly $70 canadian for 3... I have ten converted and painted pewter ones!
-
More giant ork walkers = excellent. If anyone should get ludicrous giant kits, it's Orks and Nids. Love this new walker, the nobz look decent enough too. Bet they're priced the same as SM Centurions though.
Really, really hope they don't screw this up like they did Nids.
-
the walker looks awesome.
-
Well really, what can they do? Orks are what they are. Tyranids are an army that GW has been messing with in every book, making pretty wild changes each time and rarely getting what they want on the table top. Orks are pretty standard comparatively. They aren't going to need to do a wholesale change of the army to get them to work. Should be interesting to see where they go for sure.
Might not get much notice next week, since it looks like the Nauts are the only thing in that WD.
On another note, how crazy is it that WD is now an actual useful piece of reading?
-
I'm not terribly sure I'd call it useful reading - but it is much better advertising now with stats and costs!
And yeah, short of making Orks unplayably random as opposed to hilariously random, they can't do much. I guess they could make the combat even worse and the shooting even better, that would be pretty balls.
-
So:
Gorkanaut: 245, gets d3 additional attacks if outnumbered, comes with the gattling gun.
Moronaut: 230 points, gets the supermega blast, can get the Kustom Force Field for 70 points which is now confirmed as a 5++ for friendly models within 6"
Both are 13/13/12 5hp with various other guns (rokkit launchers, big shootas, skorchas, mega blasts) but all of that is largely irrelevant given the terrible accuracy of BS2.
Seems pretty expensive, but if you put burna boyz in it and can still do the mek swaps, the thing is unkillable without getting that 7+ result on the damage chart. THe meks will repair 1 - 2 hull points per turn, and it they have grot helpers, they will do 2 - 3. Effectively, with the KFF, the model is virtually unkillable.
But those prices are very high for a model that isn't going to fare well against other walkers (I2 means even chaos walkers have a fair shot at killing it).
-
how fast is it?
-
6" just a regular walker
-
That is a very cool model. You need to get many of them and have a showpiece game against your Knights! Seriously - a 3000pt game of nothing but Gork/Morkanauts vs. Knights.
-
I have made around $850 selling knights after my cost. I havea hard time seeing how I can recoup the cost of these things!
Knights will maul these guys. I will only be buying the one Gorkanaut. I'll magnetize it of course, but I can't see dropping the coin on more than the one showpiece since they really aren't very good other than being borderline unkillable.
The more pictures I see, the more I like this model:
-
I thought you didn't care how good they were? :engel:
-
Thats what I mean, I am still buying one! this model isn't very good on the table top, but how can I call my army a dredd mob without the ultimate (well sub-ultimate) walker in the ork pantheon?
I will more likely field the Gork one. I love the big gatling gun and it just seems like the better overall choice. Provided the KFF still works while transporting a Big Mek, he can still provide the bubble.
-
If you truly didn't care, you'd buy 7!!!!11!!!1!1!1
-
Thats too much money! Think of my children Fin!
-
Have you pumped your knight profit back into hobby stuff, or has it been siphoned off?
When's ork book, in 4 weeks or something? Must be soon if there are photos in WD
-
All went back into the hobby in models and supplies (airbrushes, compressors, paints, and a better airbrush).
-
Ordered my Gorkanaut. Can't wait to paint him up!
-
Have fun!
-
Well... he sort of isn't very good. But my ork army isn't really about being a tuned competitive machine. It is three themed armies that are just pure joy to play and paint.
-
Oh no....
These look fucking incredible. I am going to go broke...
And the rules are excellent so far. BS3 if they don't move, 3 shots, and D6 AP. Only 22 points.
-
While amazing, look at the Ere we go rule!
Rerolling the low die on a charge? You can bet all Orks will have that too... Amazing!
-
Gotta be the replacement for waaagh.
-
A buff to not move? That must please you philly!
Those guns are incredible. My deldar should Gert gun making lessons from them!
-
Buuurrrrrrrnnnnnn!
Really though, tough to see not moving them. They will generally be firing from a wagon or truck.
-
Probably only move them once though, trukk them up to terrain in the middle and sit them in it.
-
I might leave them in the wagon unless the terrain is really good.
I wonder if they will get access to painboyz or heavy armor.
-
Guessing neither. If it's not in the box, it won't be in the book.
-
Not sure I agree. Commissars can join units and don't ship with models. I am betting painboyz will be similar. One of the rumored models is nob sized pain boy.
-
(http://www.dakkadakka.com/s/i/at/at2/2014/5/31/74d7984d507b9ecd3dd5e426b064f239_5394.jpg)
So lets see...
I see the new meganob, looks like the pewter ones so no need to buy any of those.
I see a plastic shock attack gun, which is cool, though I have a pewter one so again, no need to buy that.
I see the new warboss or whatever that guy in the first row left side is.
I see some buggie models with heavy weapons on them! Need at least one of those I guess, though only to get the weapons and convert my other buggies with them!
All in all, great looking models!
The 360 degree Morkanaut looks fantastic on GW's site by the way.
-
Actually I think those are just the big gunz kits. They have only one set of wheels!
And that guy in front of the big gunz is a mek boy.
I hope those big guns come three to a kit and include him!
Only issue there will be that I will need to use two FOC to even field what I want since pretty much everything is a heavy choice unless they do some shuffling.
-
Can't you get two foc just by allying another ork HQ?
What's true center middle model, a dreeadnoiught?
-
YEah, regular ork dread.
And yes, you could do that with the ally chart, but you can just as easy do a double FOC to get the 6 heavies. Hopefully they are shuffling a few around. As it is, my normal dread mob is:
2 big mess to move the dreads to troop
2 units of boyz
2 deff dredd
2 units of 3 kans
1 Mega Dread
But with the addition of the gorkanaut, if I want a true deff dredd list, I can now get all of my dreads on the table by going:
2 big mess to move the dreads to troop
2 units of boyz
2 deff dredd
4 units of 3 kans
1 Mega Dread
1 goranaut
That is 2 hq, 4 troop, and 6 heavy with two FOC. And certainly not an over powered list by any stretch! Roughly 2000 points currently. If it is a 2500 game, drop in a stompa and shave off a unit of kans.
-
arent you expecting points values to change?
-
Yeah should go down a bit!
-
I am so juiced for some orks.
One thing I am curious about is what they are doing with the special rules. Lots of odd rumors floating around. Not sure what to make of them. The volume of rumors makes me think most are false, but this close to release, they could very well be real!
-
(http://www.games-workshop.com/resources/catalog/product/600x620/99120103033_FlashGitz01.jpg)
Incredible models!
-
Those guns look like they need wheels!
-
Fantastic models!
Love the "kustomized" multimelta.
-
Absurd orkish strength!
I think I need two packages. Won't be buying the big gun kit unless they really surprise me. I can make big guns if I need to. I am so overloaded with heavies right now that I can't afford to get even more.
20 flash glitz though would be great fun! They would cost a similar amount as one unit of 10 does currently!
-
It's 5 to a box dude. At Sternguard prices.
-
32 quid for 5.
do
not
want.
-
$10 a model for 40mm model isn't a bad buy relatively speaking.
I am a little ill in the head at the idea that I just preordered two boxes at $80 shipped and am not even mad...
-
They're certainly nice models. But like all beautiful models, taking them home is expensive and you both end up getting screwed.
-
Given the number of ridiculous and unnecessary models I have for my orks (2 forge world super heavies, 3 stomps, FW biker boss, FW mega dread etc.) cost is no object with my orks. They are my babies and I honestly don't care how much they cost. I will buy one of everything!
Seriously, I have roughly 8500 points worth painted, and another 10,000 unpainted in boxes. I discover NOS ork items on a semi-regular basis. It is ridiculous.
-
Just as long as you don't end up in an American Pie type situation with some fresh unopened boxes, it should be ok.
I bet if you got it all painted up you could end up in White Dwarf. It may well be the largest Ork collection in the world.
-
My hope is to smash my way through it until I am found dead wrapped in an airbrush hose.
I have like 1200 points in models I need to photo graph and put on this thread.
-
My price complaints are a bit trivial now I'm looking for a new house. The prices here in Sydney are eye watering. I'm looking at 1.2 million still needing 50 minutes travel to work.
So 71 bucks for a box of toys is a little girl's slap after 10 rounds with Tyson at this point.
Upside: may have an actual room to do hobby stuff.
Downside: may have no time for hobby stuff until 95 years old.
-
Just love those new Ork models. Absolutely the best in the hole GW range I think. Too bad the 40K rules are so unbalanced that the game is now less fun than it uset to.
I know, thats my take on it... But then Again, if I actually got my Orks paintet and played them, it might be fun even for the dysfunctional rules. Orks are just that more fun.
Oh, and do post your pics PhilllyT.
Krag
-
Well New book probably in a fortnight, so hopefully they fix them!
-
With all of three adjustments, the game is probably the most enjoyable rule set ever produced for 40k or fantasy alike!
1. No unbound armies
2. Limit force organization types in some way
3. Remove come the apocalypse allies
As far as orks I haven't posted yet, I think all I have painted since that last update is:
9 bikers
1 bomma/burna jet
10 burna boyz
6 loota boyz
10 shoota boyz
So actually only lile 750 - 850 points. But a good amount of painting anyway!
By Gorkanaut is on the way too!
-
lookin' forward to seeing themn#. your army looks incredible.
-
Final game with the 4th edition book today.
My opponents are likely Tau and Dark Eldar. I am running a super Dredd Mob list:
1 Big Mek - Kustom Force Field
1 Big Mek - Kustom Force Field
5 lootas
1 Big Mek Deff Dredd - 3 CCW 1 skorcha
1 Big Mek Deff Dredd - 4 CCW
20 Ork Shoota Boyz - 2 big shootas
Fast:
1 Dakkajet - fight ace, additional supa shoota
1 Burna Bommer - 4 Skorcha missiles, twin linked supa shoota
Heavy:
3 Killa Kans - rokkit launchers
3 Killa Kans - rokkit launchers
3 Killa Kans - rokkit launchers
1 Mega Dredd - Kill cannon, mega klaw, 2 skorchas
Not anything resembling a competitive list, but a fun send off list! Air defense is really just the lootas and dakkajet. Burna Bommer is a garbage model at 165 points, but I have one painted and have never used it so why not right? Lots of dredd walkers, 12 total. Should be a lot of fun really!
-
Morkanaut is terrific in person. Assembled him today, airbrushing and bulk painting tomorrow, probably finish him by Sunday.
Only thing missing are my FW grot crewmen. Can't figure out where I put them. I have like twenty! Want a few to take care of the big lug.
He is roughly an inch shorter than the knight, but about as beefy.
-
Morkanaut is pretty much finished. Painting up some forge world riggers and his KFF then I need to attach him to his base. Using him in a 3000 point mek list tomorrow! Will probably get dark lanced to bits but still will be cool!
-

Your flash gitz are really good, but the Ork plane is still the best GW model available. Pure awesome.
-
Love the fighters. They did well tonight. The burn bomma is death to anything that isn't a 3+ save.
-
Some excellent models. Really like your custom jobz. I'm not really fond of the Burna models their straps, I find them far too taut and straight and it makes the models look similar even though they've got enough variety to distinguish them from each other.
-
I agree, the burns are strangely restrictive. I get what they were looking for, but with no left handed models, they are a bit mono pose. Well entirely mono pose I guess!
The new flash gitz have a similar problem.
-
Those guns look like they need wheels!
They're on kick stands.
-

Those new additions to your army are all looking great! :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::
-
the orange is just fantastic.
are those new loota boy models? dont like them much.
everything else looks great.
I prefer your flash gitz to gw ones by miles, sensibly oversized guns!
-
I prefer your flash gitz to gw ones by miles, sensibly oversized guns!
I agree with the sentiment, but not the reasoning. Using "sensibly" in a sentence talking about Ork guns is pretty much heresy!
-
Philly's look cray cray but actually able to be wielded.
the actual flash gitz ones are just stupid, not stupidly fun
-
Thanks guys.
Those are the regular lootas! Might be a few different heads mixed in, but lootas all the same!
Generally speaking, I like my Flash gitz too! But I may end up combining the 9 I have with 10 new kits and keeping them separate units. My flash gitz aren't supposed to be pirates after all. Would also solve the issue with the differing base sizes, which I told my group I wouldn't be changing!
-
Somebody posted this about my painting style for these orks and I think it sums up my approach perfectly:
"Everyone/thing gets a uniform color with just enough variety and detail.. Also every model is painted to a standard that is clearly above minimal, still above average , and yet not unattainable by a dedicated hobbyist."
I liked the way he put it!
-
That last comment is weird. Most paint jobs could be replicated with enough time.
Your painting is much better than average.
-
I would generally agree, but maybe he is including those mind numbingly amazing paint jobs from cool mini and such?
I classify my paint jobs as mostly high table top with my best stuff being low show quality.
-
There are some paint jobs which transcend paint job, but the amount is tiny proportion of what is painted, and what people would see. That’s why I think his comment is weird. It would be like saying to a very good amateur piano player, “well, that’s above average, but not as good as chopin”. Almost anything can be attained if you spent enough time (ie 1000s of hours) on it!
Your painting is certainly going to be better than almost anything else you encounter on the table top. Would love to see fr1days SM’s vs the orks, would look lovely.
-
Well thanks Finley, appreciated!
I did wrap up the Morkanaut today, and he is now even more essential that before. Now that KFF don't project from the vehicles, he is way more useful.
I am prepping the next 5 flash gitz, have 4 lootas next (giving me 10) and then am doing up 12 tankbustas. Tankbustas are the new IT model. 13 points for a rokkit, melt bomb, and tank hunter. Can take up to 5 bomb squigs that are basically BS5 S8 AP3 one use items.
Ghaz is indeed a Lord of War which is cool because it opens up an HQ slot.
Cybork got ruined and there is no invulnerable save in CC for any ork now other than Kapt. Badrukk who gets a 5+ from his force field.
Buggies are only 25 points with a rokkit now which is great.
But I am pumped The rules look good despite the tears of sorrow from the Ork community.
-
Why are people crying?
-
Well the list on the one is pretty long but the highlights:
-Nothing moves models between slots. No more nobs, dreads, bikes, etc. to troop.
-Cybork now grants a 6+ FNP. There is no way to get an invulnerable save for orks in CC.
-Kustom Force Fields are now restricted to the vehicle they are in or 6" if the KFF is out of the vehicle. Only effect models now, not units.
-Ork shootas are now a 1 point upgrade. The basic ork was probably 1 point too high to begin with. They do come with stikkbombs now though…
-Most of the good things in the ork book pull from heavy. Players in areas where they are restricting armies to one FOC will likely struggle a little bit to deal with competitive armies.
-Wazzdakka and Zogwart are removed from the codex.
Along with all the wish listing that they wanted to see, the above looks like they neutered the codex.
I disagree. The Here We Go rule and the new Waagh rules plus the boarding plank changes mean that the turn a unit of orks disembarks from transports, they have the following threat range: 6" move, 6" disembark, d6 run, 2d6+2 assault with a reroll means that they will average 25" threat radius!
Combined with some pretty awesome price cuts (bikes are 18, buggies went down 20 points with rokkits) and the amazing boost to the Tankbustas (13 points each, melta bombs, rokkits, Tank Hunter) and the army is way more competitive.
GW essentailly is saying that if you want a dredd mob list or a bike list, why do we need to spell it out for you in the codex? Those are both available through the use of unbound lists.
But that is where people are crying. Some settings are apparently even restricting FOC to a single one. No unbound, one FOC, then yes, you will see a huge restriction compared to the last codex.
-
having never played with or against orks so speaking entirely out of my arse, the pt increase for basic shoota seems weird.
anyway, "I disagree. The Here We Go rule and the new Waagh rules plus the boarding plank changes mean that the turn a unit of orks disembarks from transports, they have the following threat range: 6" move, 6" disembark, d6 run, 2d6+2 assault with a reroll means that they will average 25" threat radius!"
gives me hope for Deldar!
-
I think armies like Orks are really BEGGING to be played unbound. I mean, isn't that kinda the point of Orks? :)
-
All done the Morkanaut! Based and weathered. Might need a couple touch ups here and there but as a whole it is a wrap!
Morkanaut is by far the best of the pair now that he is the only way to stick a KFF out there and have a bubble!
Two sunny shots with a ground level perspective.

Excellent work, Philly!
-
that looks great.
Are the grots with spanner going to klobber the commander or fix the rockets?
Thanks for the break down on the codex too
-
Excellent look to that painted model, excellent. :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::
-
Great model, though those grots (grits? Philly spellchecker strikes again! ;) ) steal the cake, they just add heaps of character to any Ork model you put them on.
-
Even my stupid laptop screws up the spelling of grots!
Thanks for the comment! I love putting grits on things! They just add so much to models!
On my table for the next 2 months after reading the new book:
5 flash gitz (makes 10)
4 lootas (gets me to 10)
1 Painboy
12 tankbustas (one of the big winners in the new book)
7 bikers (gets me to 15 total - one full unit)
2 trukks
3 killa kans (gets me to 12 - 2 units of 6)
Good amount of painting! But I go pretty quick so this shouldn't be difficult.
THese will bring me plenty of good options that will work in the new book. I have a ridiculous amount of painted orks already (8500 points worth) so I am really just finishing the two main versions of orks I run - speed freak and Mek crazy.
-
So here is a fun, moderately competitive list I wrote up:
Painboy 50
Big Mek: Da Finkin' Kap; kustom force field 95
10 Gretchin: + 1 Runtherd 35
30 Boyz: shootas; 3× big shoota; Boss Nob (power klaw; bosspole) 265
3 Warbuggies: 3× Warbuggy (3× twin-linked rokkit launcha) 75
Morkanaut: kustom force field 280
6 Killa Kans: 6× rokkit launcha 300
10 Flash Gitz: 5× ammo runt 235
• Battlewagon: killkannon; 2× big shoota; reinforced ram; extra armour 165
1,500 points
Both characters in the thirty ork mob.
-
Flashgitz are one sick kit.
-
In what way?
-
GReat kits. THe guns are a little wonky, but they look cool. The torsos and the faces are the best part. Amazzing heads and the overcoat body looks amazing!
-
They're just a bit too bulky for me!
-
They are the same size as the nobs you got in Stormclaw. The guns are great and hooked on with harnesses. They aren't any bigger than the burns for example though you can make them much more bulky.
With how awesome the models perform on the table, those guns SHOULD look awesome as hell.
-
My whole 8000 point army. Seems like it should be more, but this is the state of the army currently. I have another 10,000 or 12,000 points to paint, so I am excited to see what the mass will look like!
The army:
2 big meks with KFF
1 biker boss
1 Super cybork
2 pain boyz
1 Ghaz
1 Warboss on foot
50 shoota boyz
12 slugga boyz
18 Ard boyz
10 burna boyz
15 lootas
15 nobz
15 mega nobz
10 flash gitz
10 gretchin and handler
10 Storm Boyz
7 nob bikers
7 warbikers
3 buggies
3 trukks
3 battle wagons
1 blitz bomma/burna bomma
1 dakkajet
9 killa kans
2 deff dredd
1 Morkanaut
1 Stompa
1 Kill Bursta
a few other assorted models.

Thanks guys.
My current painting plan is:
1 Xenos inquisitor
1 of each assassin other than the vindicare
15 Tankbustas
10 more deathwatch marines to finish the units
2 painboyz
1 ork shock attack gun
15 Warbikers
6 killa kans
1 stompa
2 trukks
1 deff dredd
Hoping I can get all of this done January 1.
We will see how it goes. By the end of next summer I want to have 12,000 in painted orks. We will see what happens!
-
That is an ambitious target! Good Luck
-
Inquisitor and assassins will be finished by Saturday. I am using them in a game! I want to drop the assassination force and see what fun we can have!

Very impressive!!! :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:

Most likely the greatest Ork army I've seen. :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool: :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::

Thanks GP!

Maybe a better way to put it is that I might have seen something equal, but definitely nothing better.
Your welcome.

Had a really fun game with orks yesterday.
1250 points teamed with 1250 Tyranids versus 2500 of chaos.
We won, but most of it was due to 20 genestealers being hive commandered all the way across the board and tying up a quarter of his army along with a Trygon arriving and successfully charging a predator annihilator. Chaos was on the back foot the rest of the game. The orks plowed on on turn two though and wounds up another half of the army. What little wasn't engaged couldn't stop all that melee since it was a shooting heavy army.
I had a pair of big meks with KFF, 50 shoota boyz in the four vehicles, 2 trukk, battle wagon, kill tank. Four drops.
Take aways: Trukks are awesome. Fast and really durable. Battle wagon was decent. SUPER tough, but the deathrolla isn't all that good for killing vehicles. Stick to troops.
Kill Tank is still insane.

Some of the best orks I have ever seen. Just awesome! I love the orange details and that mine squig is great!
-
Good shit dude, you're on fire recently!
-
Only 20 broken ass tankbustas? You gonna need more!
-
The Orks are back! :icon_cool: :::cheers:::
-
Ha, yeah! Great fun in 8th too!
Thanks for the kind words everyone.
-
Every time I see your's, and because I use orange on mine as well, it makes me want to go paint more of them.
-
Sketching out summer painting plans. I will be buying whatever they produce for orks of course but I am also getting 10 more flashgitz and the gretchin necessary to make the ammo runts. After that I do want another gorkanaut.
Current plans:
5 Stormboyz
Zagstruck
20 Shoota Boyz
11 Sluggas
10 Flashgitz
This is in addition to:
50 Bloodletters
1 Throne of Blood
12 Juggernauts
3 Rhinos
10 Bezerkers
Full summer but i do get 9 weeks of vacation....
-
Looking forward to seeing the progress!
I need to get out my Orks, too! :icon_lol:
-
9 weeks off! Amazing, wouldn’t want to go back to work.
I doubt they will release more than an extra character for the orks. Maybe the rumoured ‘Prime ork ‘ version of ghazzskull
I recon you can do it though. An achievable list
-
Yeah be Not a teacher is tough work man. 12 weeks of vacation is the best part of being a teacher!
-
We are playing an escalation game for Warhammer currently. My 500 point list had my meka dredd. He is a blades to use and cost me a lot so it’s nice to see him!

In 3 games I had 3 wins but two of them had me left with only my big mek and the Mega Dredd! The third was a wipe out as I barreled across the board at the Mechanicus line which was a bit under powered on anti-vehicle.
-
Your Orks are looking great. Like Artoban had said - these are some of the best greenies that I've ever seen. :smile2:
-
Nice going! And I would love to pitch my T'au against your Orks one day if it wasn't for this bloody little pudle of water between us which the seem to be called the atlantic
-
That would be fantastic!
Orks are hands down my favorite army. I just love playing them and orks are really fun to fight. They die fairly easily so something is always happening!
-
750 point games this week.
Simple list. Big mek, Meka Dredd, 60 boyz.

It looks awesome, like they are on a mission. :icon_cool: :::cheers:::
-
My 10 Flash gitz arrived yesterday. They are great models. Will be a blast to paint, but man at $52 for 5 they are pretty pricey!
-
how many points is ytour big walker?
playing against bases is heinous.
-
The meka dredd is 256. He is a little over coated to be honest. His shooting is nothing compared to the redemptive dread. His melee is abot the same. He as a few more wounds I think with 16 and has a minor wound ignoring trait that bleeds away quickly. He biggest benefit is the Justin force field but those are easy to come by! For less than 100 points more you can take the much better morkanaut.
-
I love those Mecha Dreds. They're rough-looking, orky to the core, war machines. Such cool models.
-
I dropped in some Lootas and swapped the Meka Dread for a unit of 10 flash gitz (my favorite ork unit by far).
The lootas stole the game. They were the MVP in both games I played. That 40 inch range and two wounds makes them a terrific option for nailing vehicles and wiping out multiwound elites.
The flashgitz were beaters too. Having 3 S5 attacks at BS3 is daunting while their 3 S5 ap-2 BS4 shots makes them a real threat in shooting.
I did leave 9 lootas at home so some big shootas were pressed into service here...
-
Cool, makes me want to paint some more of my Orks! :::cheers:::
-
Had a really fun game today against Slaanesh Iron Warriors. I won turn 2 when my opponent conceded. We were playing the Relic.
My list:
Speed freak 1500
Big Mek on Warbike: kustom force field; big choppa, Headwoppah relic108
Big Mek on Warbike: kustom force field; big power klaw 114
Zhadsnark da Ripper 122
12 Boyz: Boss Nob (shoota; power klaw) 85
12 Boyz: Boss Nob (shoota; power klaw) 85

4 Grot Tanks: Kommanda (rokkit launcha); 4 × rokkit launcha; 4 × shoota 180

Trukk 82
Trukk 82
Trukk 82
Burna-bommer: skorcha missiles 152
Dakkajet: 148
1,505 points
His list:
1 Demon Prince - Elixer of some sort. Sword and one set of claws.
1 Warsmith
10 Cultists
10 Marines with two missile launchers and mark of slaanesh
10 Marines with two missile launchers and mark of slaanesh
Maulerfield
defiler
Flying dragon thing (can't remember the name).
5 chaos spawn
5 chaos spawn
My warboss finished off a maulfiend and then got charged by this demon prince. He took 6 wounds but managed to kill the demon in return. Thats a great turn out if you ask me!
The dragon tied up my dakkajet and tried to kill it but the jet managed to limp away with 3 wounds remaining. The defiler warp timed into a unit of grots and the trukk but only managed to kill a single tank. As a whole, the tanks did good work, almost killing the maulerfiend and doing some damage to the dragon.
Boyz leapt from the trukk and charged after their own trukk ate the overwatch. They dragged the dragon down to 4 wounds and the chaos player conceded before I could finish it off.

Shot of the table when the game wrapped up. He had only the dragon, 14 marines, and a defiler on its way to dead. No way to deal with what I had on the table.
As a whole the two fliers did fine. The dakkajet put 7 wounds on spawn in one round and another 4 the next. Was in rough shape though by then. The burnabommer was fantastic. Killed 7 cultists with its first bomb and caused the other 3 to die from morale then did 6 to a marine unit with he second. It managed to put three wounds on spawn from shooting in two turns.
Zhadsnark did Zhadsnark things. He first turn charged into a wounded Maulerfiend and killed it then consolidated into the unit of ten marines on that side. The demon prince tried to kill him but failed, doing 6 wounds then was annihilated with mortal 2 mortal wounds and 7 normal ones from the Rippa.
The grot tanks did their thing, beating up the mauler, dragon, and defiler. I only got two rounds of shooting before the opponent conceded.
All in all this army threw a pile of small to mid sized vehicles out there, too many for my opponent to deal with effectively before the game got out of hand on him.
-

As any good Ork boy would do. That's a pretty good battle. Always good to see the Ork warboss cracking skulls and taking names. How do you feel the orks are measuring up competitively? I occasionally hear lots of groaning, but at my local club they seem to do well considering they're still an index army.
The Demon prince looks sweet as well. Where's it from?
-
My fellow ork players continue to complain but I feel that the list has a fighting chance even as an index list. If I had klan traits, relics, and a full selection of strategies I think it would be a fine list even without any significant rule changes. The biggest issue it has right now is the BS. With some armies able to apply a -2 to shooting fairly easily, you can effectively make it impossible to hit things with shooting. They need to change the rule back to always hitting on a 6.
The demon is... I’ll need to get back to you. I can’t recall where my buddy bought it. Kromlech maybe?
-
This is the first time I see grot tanks. Didn’t know they existed and by he gods I LOVE them! Are they an actual unit or they proxy for something. They look like tracks from the taurox ( I think) but they are the sweetest units I’ve seen in a long time. Must have, build or acquire in any manner.

Here is a better set of pics. They are a forgeworld and so full of character!

Glorius👆 I now have a new mission. I beleive these are some of the most unique and amazing models in the 40k world. They slide into the fluff so well, you can’t imagine how they are not part of the regular army.
Fantastic job Philly! A1 for originality.

That game looks like fun!

The Daemonkilla! Awesome looking game and a great looking army. :biggriin:

These are without a doubt the best 40k orks I have ever seen. That’s a whopping pile of firepower from those gits.
-
Great job on that paint scheme. Orange is a pretty hard colour to work with :eusa_clap:
-
Love them Philly! Really like how the squicks are looking around!
And even for Orks those weapons should put out some real backlash when fired that you wonder how they will keep on their feet!
-
Thanks everyone!
Yeah, they are ridiculous weapons for sure! I adore them in concept and on the table top though. Just such as fun idea. I play this version of orks as a shooting first army, so they are all about loads of dakka.
-

No joke, I think so too. The colors, the shading, the edges - they all look just so, damn good!

amazing :eusa_clap:

Finished my new wazbom blastajet. Such a fun model. Can't wait to use it. Not overly powerful but just crazy!
I tried a couple things with this one. Different sort of weathering and rust style. Pretty happy with it. Didn't use my airbrush for any of this.
