Title: Picking a house and a forge world...
Post by: Demonslayer on July 12, 2018, 10:36:39 AM
So, I'm currently finishing up on my Necrons- just 7 more models- and after that I'll get to work on my Imperial armies. Already bought the units, I just need to paint them... And I'm sort of debating which colours/background to use for them. My main army will be 1500 pts of Blood Angels, which I'll paint in their regular colours rather than using a successor chapter (although I might be tempted to include a Flesh Tearers and/or Lamenters unit).

The other units are all from the Forge Bane box, meaning two Armiger Warglaives, and a bunch of AdMech units. And that's where I'm unsure what colours to use, because I'm not entirely certain what would best suit a Blood Angels army, both in terms of colour and fluff.

For the Imperial Knights, I'm leaning towards house Hawkshroud. First, their homeworld is close to Baal (and on the same side of the Great Rift, unless I'm mistaken). And second, the yellow colour scheme should contrast nicely with the red Blood Angels, meaning the Knights should stand out. I've no idea whether they'd work well together mechanically speaking though, so I'm open to other suggestions!

Then there's the Adeptus Mechanicus units. Now, since I haven't picked up the rulebook for them yet I have even less of an idea what will work, mechanically speaking, although I did read up about them on the internet. I believe that only Lucius and (maybe) Agripinaa are on Baal's side of the great rift, so I should probably pick from those two planets... I'm leaning towards Lucius, because I like the colour scheme a bit better and I kinda like their Deep Strike capability (in case I ever expand them into an independent army). On the other hand, Agripinaa has historic reasons to ally with the Blood Angels... And rules-wise it might be nice if the Angels take the melee role while the AdMech are more shooty, and for that Agripinaa is better (due to their special rules).

So, thoughts? Does a Blood Angels - Hawkshroud - Lucius alliance make sense, in terms of fluff and mechanics? Or should I try something else?

I'd go with Hawkshroud and Agripinaa, as the synergy would between them would be really nice. Not to mention it would be very fluffy as well. :-P

I am 5 knights deep into a summer Knight project.  I went Hawkshroud.  Loved their fluff and the color scheme was different from my other armies.

I'd love to do a whole Questoris army for 30K, but right now I don't have the funds for it. That, and I already have 3 different HH armies in the works. :-P

I noticed them just now! They're looking brilliant, in a I-seriously-need-to-step-up-my-game sorta way .

Agripinaa it is! Although their home world is sort of caught inside the Great Rift right now, but I suppose a fleet of fabricator ships could've been exploring in the vicinity of Baal when the trouble started. Paint-wise it's probably a better choice than Lucius, because the red still ties them in with the Blood Angels but it is not the dominant color (pretty sure that after doing 1500 points of Blood Angels, I'll be kinda sick of red for a while).
