Title: Warhammer Empire monthly painting competition - 2012 - Entries Thread
Post by: warhammerlord_soth on January 09, 2012, 10:14:31 AM: In view of the successes of last year, the painting competition continues.

Themes for 2012 :

Februari : Wizard on foot (Due March 1st)
March : Templar Grand Master
April : War machine
May : 5 missile troops
June : Unit filler
July : Wizard Wagon/War Altar
August : Special character on foot or horseback
September : Character on Griffon
October : Imperial terrain piece
November : Scene from the train of army followers
December : Season's holidays in the Empire.

The categories not included in this list (eg siege cannon...) will get their turn second half of the year, hopefully after their release in June (rumoured).

Entries can be made by replying in this thread. Maximum of 3 entries per forum member(Sorry Steveb).

NO OTHER REPLIES HERE PLEASE, or I disqualify you !

Post by: Darknight on March 01, 2012, 05:41:01 PM: I realize this isn't a democracy, but my "vote" would go for NOT allowing previous entries (even though I'd love to just be able to re-enter my Grand Master!) To my mind, the painting comp is about people creating something new, clearing the backlog of bare lead, and getting input and feedback on it. Re-entering figures seems slightly against that, to my mind.

I'm not a good/patient painter or a good at talking pictures, but I guess it is more fun for the winner if more join the competition.

These are my Kriegsritter for the 3rd edition Empire list. (Also available as mercenaries in 2nd edition) Converted using Volands Venators (5th edition)and various plastic parts. I painted them as Talabecland as I think my Altdorf army wouldn't use such outdated warriors, but as Talabecland is close to Altdorf they could join the Altdorf army as they hunt evil in the Great forest.

I have previously painted this and shown it on the forum, but - per 'Soth - previously painted models are allowed for this competition because people must have painted them recently. If the judges wish to discount the model because it is previously painted, that is just fine - it's only a bit of fun, after all!

A brief description of the model and inspiration (more details about the process can be found in this thread (http://warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=41930.0)); I was inspired by the legends of the world turtle and the elephants on the back, hence the turtle and elephants. The miniatures ringing the map of the world (which is the Warhammer world, with the center where the orrery is mounted being the Island of Melite where my army is based) are zodiac miniatures from Reaper. The zodiac ring has been constructed so it looks as if it could orbit around. Rather than make this into a Colleges of Magic piece, I have gone for the look of a religous altar, devoted to Myrmidia in her aspect as Choreographer of the Heavens (so, the priestess on the back of the centaur has the laurel and round shield of the priestesses elsewhere in my army, but her shield also has a starfield design on it etc.)

He's based on a D&D Mindflayer of course (so his Killing Blow is sucking your brain out through your eyes sockets!), with high elf, vampire and chaos marauder parts. And although I prefer the wide armed pose, he's repositionable so he ranks up with my Horrors of Tzeentch.

Post by: warhammerlord_soth on August 20, 2012, 06:09:46 AM: Sorry to dissapoint, but this month's competition is for NAMED characters from official GW fluff, like Karl Franz, Thyrus Gormann, Gorbad Ironclaw, Nagash (I'd be curious to see someone come up with a decent conversion for him) and the like.

Neither Shadespyres or Riverhawks entries fit that bill. Try and make a quick fix (So try to find some fluff fitting your model, now that you don't have a model fitting the fluff. To make it easier, I'll even accept characters from Black Library novels.

Post by: Dirach on September 20, 2012, 04:26:53 PM: Here is my general with griffon. I have quite some feelings for this griffon. Not only is it marvelous to hold, as it is lead and have some weight. It was also one of my first models for warhammer. Back then it had a high elf lord as a rider, but he was later replaced with the white wolf grand master who functioned as a general for my Empire army back in the 4th/5th edition period. Later Aldebrand Ludenhof took his place. But now I guess he have a final rider with the general that was included in the latest griffon set.
