State missile troops have the option for drilled... Why would you ever put drilled on this unit?

TOW has more "why would you ever" than you can shake a stick at.
If redressing the ranks didn't count as moving I'd see a use for it but now...for shits and giggles I suppose?

I imagine that they have it because they are state troops and all state troops have it.

Admittedly using drilled with marching might be a good reason.

If it came free... Ok but it's not.

Tbh if all our state troops had drilled for free that would be kinda nice as that would separate us from other factions.

At 7 ppm they should have it for free, in order to put them on par with similar units.

If they came with drilled and shieldwall and shields for free (so basically swordsmen and spearmen are one point less each) they might even start approaching the realm of being fairly costed.

Sounds like Dwarfs!  :lol:

And no, I don't find a reason to buy drilled for state missile troops.

Ok so drilled happens before you move... So if you drilled your missile troops... You redress your ranks and not move, do you count as moving? Maybe you don't get a penalty to your shooting because you didn't move.

Let's say you have a 5x2. Redress to 10 x1 shoot no penalty.

I'd say redressing counts as moving;

1) You are physically moving models in the unit.
2) It says "before moving", implying that the unit does move.

The best predecent I can find for this is Swift Reforms in 8th, which also counted as moving, even if you only turned the models or ranks around.

the best use is if you have to march them, you can adjust their ranks to shoot more . If you are losing your shooting phase you can at least redress. Another is a detachment of handgunners or crossbowmen changing ino a 5x2 from a 10x1 for a supporting charge - if you judge it being more effective than supporting stand and fire.

It's extremely niche and absolutely not worth it, but it's the only case i can see. Both missile units have it bad when they move so they should not be moving at all. That is unless you can freely redress them if they stand still, in that case ot could be useful for having more models shooting after starting with a smaller rank.
