Show us your unit fillers!
« on: September 27, 2009, 04:39:17 PM »
As the subject says: Show us your unit fillers, the creative, the macabre, the original, the artistic and the... filling...

In a world of monotonous state troops we need something special! Be it an ogre with puffy sleeves, 3 drunken troopers with a barrel of beer or maybe even casualties in the making, whatever you have done to make your unit stand out, then show it! Even if you just mixed up something to avoid painting that many state troops!

I cannot start by posting anything myself, as I have not made any (yet!), but I'm hoping to see some good and creative fillers, also for inspiration to others  :icon_biggrin:

I think you should show some empire pride and have the empire guys beating up on somebody we really hate... VC, Demons, skaven... I wouldn't say no to a big pile of elf bodies either (any flavor, they all suck in thier own way).

Sometimes a unit filler is made because you have something in your collection that you do not need, but don't want to throw away. This filler inspired me to make a themed army based on its use.
My story line was that a strong empire force went to Lustria for fame, fortune and the glory of the Empire.  They got their butts kicked, but on their journey to return to the Empire they picked up many trophies and allies.  In one battle they Killed a Slann ga-mega-millionmith generation Lord. His temple guards broke and his last dying words were stay with me, by the time they had rallied, the Lord was dead. The regiment that slew him wanted every body to see what they had accomplished, plus they cherished the gold and jewels on the throne, so the armies undertaker embalmed and stuffed him, and now they carry the Lord around with them wherever they go, and of course the temple guards accompany (they count as swordsmen). I apologise for the quality of the pictures. steveb

Here's a unit filler I made for my Flagellants.  What do you think?

Sorry if the quality of the photo is lame, I have to use my phone until I get a new camera cord, and the flash on it isn't that great.  (On the other hand, I have no excuse if the quality of the model in the photo is lame)

About Backwater: I'm curious to know wether the cavalier is played as a priest or just as a filler, both are believable.
I like the flagellant pulling the gallows pole (a word learnt through Iron Maiden :icon_twisted:). Simple and good looking.

Some time ago I asked your advice on a unit filler for some dwarf miners, the consensus was that they came out of the same tunnel rather than each making their own exit. I’ve eventual got round to making it.

And here it is in the unit - Minty Rocksmacker 's Pick N' Mix Dwarf Miners

You will also notice the ‘deliberate’ mistake – a unit filler on 4 bases doesn’t fit very well with a 10 strong unit with 5 at the front - hence the wheelbarrow.

Is it in my eyes, or is that one dwarf in the first rank left to the standard bearer wielding a flamethrower?  :icon_lol:
