Hochland Army
« on: March 24, 2013, 04:07:25 PM »
Due to the rather positive reception I received on my first post, I've decided to go ahead and post the entire army (as it stands now). I forgot to take a pic of the witch hunter, and I'll try to get to that soon.
So here we go...

Warrior Priests (essential for any Empire army)

Wizards, Death/Shadow and Life. I tried to make the first one look as though he could be from either College.

Engineer and Captain, even though I'll rarely use the latter.

Archers/Huntsmen. I've only fielded them twice and was rather disappointed.

Detachment of 20 swordsmen, meant for the Greatswords.

The Greatswords- there are only 20 painted now, but I've got another 20 well underway.

Crossbows- I usually prefer handgunners, though. Armor piercing makes a huge difference.

The Handgunners, famous staple of Hochland armies! I'm not sure why they look so shiny in this pic though...

Inner Circle Knights, The gentlemen of Hergig.

Artillery- I plan on converting that mortar into a cannon, as I found that they really don't do anything. Opinions on them may vary, but that's what I have found.

The Steamtank.

Demigryph Knights, Fort Schippel's beasts.

And the humble halberdiers. These guys were in my last post, but I thought I'd share them again.

That's all for now, folks. I will gratefully accept any positive criticism or suggestions!  As the army grows, I plan to update my progress with pics or maybe even a bit of fluff.
Cheers!  :::cheers:::

Really nice stuff. I especially like the Death/Shadow combi-wizard. That was some good thinking.

Looks Great  :::cheers::: I like Hochland's colors. The life wizard fits very nicely.
I'm considering switching all my stuff from Averland over to Hochland. I've got a Cult of Ulric and an Averland army and kind of want to put them together before I get too far into painting

Thank you both for the compliments!
I definitely support you changing from Averland to Hochland, as I would really like to see a coalition army of Middenland/heim or perhaps Talabheim and Hochland. Good luck!

Nice work! I usually don't like red/green color scheme but you pulled it off! Nice and dark without looking christmas-y. It is all tied together, and I especially like the wall in front of your crossbowmen.

Good day to all,
It's been quite a while- nearly a year, actually. Being a student means that time for painting, photographing and posting on the forum is highly limited. I've been browsing on and off since my last post when I get the chance, but never really done anything beyond that. Many of the armies I've seen on here are truly phenomenal, providing inspiration for me to lift that brush whenever possible. I don't consider myself to be a great painter by any means, but I like to think that my stuff is adequate. So, here's what I've managed to do in the last year- I apologize in advance for the iPhone quality pictures.

Mounted Warrior Priest/ Luthor Huss

The Witch Hunter- My personal favorite

Lore of Beasts/Life Wizard- another great model

Golden Griffin BSB- I rarely use him with the actual item, just as a normal BSB. I'm not too fond of the one in the Empire General kit.

Outriders! I love the sheer power that just 5 of these guys can dish out despite the fact that they can't move and shoot.

Artillery Corps, Hergig's Thunder.

The Hurricanum. I have to say, I really dislike both the model and how I painted it. It just looks tremendously out of place, too fantastical compared to the somewhat-realistic infantrymen. Sadly, it is somewhat central to having two big blocks of infantry. That +1 to hit...  :biggriin:

Good ol' Halberdiers! I did a bit of touchup on the standard and some of the troops, as well as the movement tray rim.

And last but certainly not least, the Greatswords! These guys really form the centerpiece of the army and are by far my favorite unit in the Empire.

As always, constructive comments and criticism are eagerly welcomed.
Cheers!  :::cheers:::

Always nice to see a fellow Hochland player.

Looks great!
No, I'm sending it to people I reckon I can trust. Or, at least, people I think I can murder should it become neccesary.

Good day to all,
While it's been a good while since I posted my last update, here's a little project I recently finished. Inspiration came from watching the film "The Black Death" (2012), a gritty medieval tale with a fair dose of religious zeal, witch burning, and other brutal- yet entertaining acts we so closely associate with the Imperial Witch Hunters.

What a stern old fellow. He's a head taller than any other Imperial, yet when coupled with his rigid posture it makes for quite the figure. Credit for the awesome cloak idea is from Boreas_NL, a truly inspirational modeler.

And here's something of my own design. I couldn't tell you where each of the various parts and accouterments came from, but such is the way of the bits box. There is no tolerance for witches or heretics in Hochland! Particularly half-way beastmen.

As always, C&C is always welcome!

Working on the Witch Hunter now, but in the meantime, here's a wonderful (albeit crude) skit from 30 Rock that I was reminded of.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLa_beHZfws
Be warned, it is on the colorful side.

Here's the converted Witch Hunter, all painted up and ready to search for heretics.  Once again, credit for the brilliant idea goes to Boreas_NL.

Love the witch hunter (colour choice, paint job, everything!). Excellent highlighting on the cape.   :eusa_clap:

Is it just the pic or didn't you highlight the right arm of the unit filler in the same way?

Apart from that: Wow!  :::cheers:::

Thank you! I did do the filler a bit differently, starting with a nearly 100% black base (dab of green), washing, and dry highlighting with what was also a dark green. I wanted him to look a little grungier, just to differentiate him from the rest of the troops.

A new batch of troops has marched into Hergig!

-16 auxiliary dwarf crossbows
-30 state pikemen

I've had the dwarfs kicking around for a while, and finally decided to do something useful with them. At one point long ago, they were converted to chaos dwarf blunderbusses. Hergig has a dwarven quarter, so I figured that the fluff might allow for bit of a mix. The pikemen are from the Old Glory Italian Wars line, really lovely models.

Here's the dwarf contingent-

The Pike regiment-

That's all for now! Painting time has been limited as of late, so it's likely that these guys will take a bit of time to finish.

Very nice army you have here! The terrain looks good too! What about posting a group shot of all of your troops on the gaming board?

Your army makes Hochland proud!  :smile2:
