I have a similar General/Griffin conversion in mind and am definately going to add armour. I think that, if you do, the best way is to lower the left claw to give a little more room for the barding.

Good luck!

Nice army!

Sadly the photos don't do your minis justice I think. You should try a better camera and/or better lightning when taking photos.

What I like best though is, that you manage to give your minis a very unique character with your little conversions and bit swapping. I might have to steal an idea or two at some point!

Hi Victor, can't argue there mate, unfortunately I only have my i-phone 4. It serves a purpose, but I'd love to have a proper photo station set up. Financial, practicle & marital restraints mean that this is unlikely to change anytime soon. Plus my 8 month old daughter couldn't resist the pull of such an interesting set up, end result would be carnage.

Feel free to pinch any conversion ideas, half of mine have been borrowed form forum members anyway.

Ok so I had another game last night & got to field my freshly painted pistolliers, who didn't make it past turn 1. Four died to a dangerous terrain test from the mysterious river, the final two were cut down my Ogre Maneaters.

Here were some pictures taken after turn 1 :-(

These guy's still need a little work to give them peacock feathers, & woodland bases, but they're now servicable.

Thanks for the comments everyone

Ok, so im looking for some advise from you guys going forward regarding the army's my next foot unit? I'm swaying between starting a unit of Spearmen & a unit of Greatswords.

If I tackle the spearmen, they will be scruffy Stirland Spearmen, (even more so than the Swordsmen ,who were actually intended as an elite unit amongst the rag tag of Stirlands state troops), they will have torn, patched uniforms of different muted greens, yellow ribbons will add the contrasting colour, but the yellow colouring will appear less frequently then seen in the Swordsmen. (fluff premise being the yellow dye is rarer & more expensive then the greens, hense being less prominant in the less well provided units.

The  unit of Stirland Greatswords, by contrast will be a flashy, crisp unit. Taking the idea from the Empire Heraldry book that some Stirland Commanders overcompensate for Stirland's poor rep & so have really flashy units. As the Greatswords are the Count's best troops, where better to demonstrate this than here?

So, what are your thoughts? Both units will 'eventually' be realised, but the limited time constraints imposed by, work, life, wife & baby will mean the second choice may well be a long time coming.

Greatswords would be nice, but I think seeing a really disheveled unit of spearmen would be awesome.  Units that look completely battle worn always have a greater appeal than super shiny ones to me.  But I guess that's the Wissenland coming out in me.

Nordland is really cool. They fight pirates and party on the beach. Sort of like a Disney film.

Great conversions across the board! :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool: :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::

Yep, looks like the greatswords requests are high in number, but looking forward to seeing what happens with the spearsmen, too!

I think the overwhelming support of Greatswords is due to the general disdain most people have for spearmen in 8th edition. If you haven't already started on the Greatswords, here's another vote for Spearmen! No disdain for them here. After finishing my Pleasant Surprise and my 17 halberdiers to finish off their horde, I've got 15 spearmen in the queue to bring them up to 50 as well.

Ok, well it looks like a case the best laid plans... & all that, unfortunately I've been unable to make a start on those greatswords as yet.

It's amazing how much time & attention those baby things actually require.

So as an apology i've included some pics of the rest of my WIP knightly order. 'The Knights Freya'

& the unit in all it's unpainted glory.

These are really nice knights! It seems everyone is uploading theirs after I did mine :P. I especially like the lack of barding. Very Stirland!

Perhaps your Inner Circle* could have table cloths on the horses as armour in a similar manner to the Bret models?

And who is this Freya chick?

*Edit: doh! just looked at your army list and these are your ICs! Ignore that suggestion then I guess :P

Cheers bud. Yup caught red handed, I definately stole the idea of 'demi lancer' style knights from pictures seen on here.

I'm going to Green stuff barding onto the Knights in parts, not as complete or as flashy as the standard knights box, but enough to show that they are barded... like I said, still very WIP at the moment.

Oh & Freya was the warrior Queen that led the Stirland based tribe back in the time of Sigmar. Rumours even have it that she has some of his children. So I thought it would be a fitting order for Stirland to have based in their lands.

Thanks Smokey, I used a mixture of the knights box, pistollier box, Greatswords & even the Mordheim Road Warden model. Glad you approve.

Hi All,

I'm afraid that another post starts with an apology, no Greatswords as yet. It seems that a significant side affect of beng a father is a serious lack of me time.

any way, I was trawling the depths of my photobucket albums & found some pics of my Stir-River patrol huntsmen. Now 20 men in size, these guys were the first batch. I'm sure they were posted on here a couple of years ago, but I guess it would make sense to have the whole amry in one place.

C&C most welcome.

Greatswords will be alnog shortly, I need to build them for a tourney that kicks off on wednesday.time is well & truely marching on
