The Hunters of Sigmar
« on: June 23, 2007, 09:36:32 PM »
As many of you should remember, closer to the begining of the Campaign Organization we voted to expand upon and use the Hunters of Sigmar in our forces. For those of you who don't know they are a Knightly Order unit briefly described by GW in an article a few months ago. I have finally got arround to expanding on them, so here they are, the Hunters of Sigmar....

The Hunters of Sigmar
GW Set Fluff
A relatively new Order, The Hunters of Sigmar have dedicated themselves to hunting down and destroying pockets of Chaos resistance in the Drakwald forest region. The Order was formed by Jerik Wildorn in the aftermath of the Storm of Chaos, mainly in response to the increased presence of Beastmen and other dark and dangerous things lurking in the deep forests of the Empire's northern reaches. Jerik is an expert woodsman and tracker, and these skills are emulated, honed, and perfected by the Order's Knights each and every day. They frequently provide escort services to coaches and merchant caravans traveling through the region. In addition to such duties, the Hunters of Sigmar go out of their way to track and eradicate evil where it lives within the woods. Their strategy revolves around the idea of striking at Chaos before it has time to gather and form a raiding army. By striking in a preemptive manner, lives are saved and small settlements spared the ravages of Chaos.
The average Hunter of Sigmar often spends long periods of time living outdoors. As such, they have to provide their own sustenance and have little time to repair their equipment. They carry everything they might need into the field — you just never know how difficult a trail will be. Mud-spattered and odorous, Hunters are certainly not regarded as the most glamorous Knightly Order. In fact, when they gather together to form a skirmish group, they are often mistaken for a ragtag group of Freelance Knights. However, their relentless struggle against the forces of Chaos is more than welcome in these dark times. It is not uncommon for local people's to offer shelter and food to these brave warriors of the Empire in a gesture of appreciation.

Warhammer-Empire Expansion
When the cry for men went out in the lands, many Knightly Orders took head, but none more so than the Hunters of Sigmar. It was in their home territory that the dawi artifact was said to be found, and it was their sacred duty to protect the peoples of that land. Grand Master Jerik Wildorn set out the call for all his Knights, and any others in the Region, to join with him in the halls of their Chapter-House, and so a senses was taken.
It was at this time that the Order pledged its entire being to the war to come, and word was spread far and wide into the towns and villages that the Hunters of Sigmar were searching for men. As they sent riders out to the Electors and City-States for donations from the rich, they hired dozens of Smiths and Stables to provide them with the equipment they would soon need. And so those angered and tough Men of the Empire, refugees from their northern homes and Forest Dwellers alike, were excepted into the Order. Aide came from unlikely places, like the Golden College who sent ore, and the Imperial Zoo which sent near a hundred Horses bred for, but never trained in, the art of war.
And so a great training occurred across the area, Hunters of Sigmar training these common men in the same ways as Nobles, readying them for battle against the coming hordes of evil. In the early raids there were heavy losses, but the vengeful might of the Common Man proved heavy handed and much equipment and resources were procured for use from the enemy. Grand Master Jerik met every recruit he could, knighting those who became fully trained. He gathered throughout the regions a host of mounted men, lead by his Hunters. He had trained those he swore to protect, and now they could protect themselves. The Men of the Empire would ride to war.

Jerik Wildorn
Jerik Wildorn lost everything in the Storm of Chaos, including his fathers lands, his family and his horse. He had fought bravely in their defense, but as many other minor nobles had he was crushed under the weight of Chaos. With his few surviving huntsmen Jerik had traveled under cover of darkness, through the darkest regions of the Northern Empire to reach Middenheim. He and his men ambushed great numbers of small chaotic bands from the shadows on their journey, putting their woodsman skills to the test with revenge in their minds. It was in this way that the small group traveled across a hundred miles to reach Middenheim when most of the land was besieged by chaos.
Upon reaching the safety of the city Jerik had brought his men up to the walls for it’s defense. It was from this vantage point that Jerik realized his calling. Watching as Cavalry Charges out of Middenheims Gates against the Hordes of Chaos, and seeing the Knightly Orders arrayed on the field of Battle, Wildorn realized their potential. It was no divine intervention or magical euphoria that gave him his plans, only belief in the will of man. And so during his time on the walls Jerik gathered about him all of the Woodsmen and hunters he could find. From the wall tops over the Southern Causeway Jerik’s Woodsmen rained death upon chaos with their hunting skills, and allowed some recognition to be gained for their leader.
Upon the ending of the siege and the arrival the Emperor Karl Franz, Jerik waited two weeks to approach the Imperial Court. He brought with himthe signatures of fifty woodsmen proclaiming their oaths to Jerik and his plan, and so he was awarded Knighthood along with the Minor Nobility, and given an Imperial Grant to create his Knightly Order.
It has nearly been two years since the Storm of Chaos and Jeriks forces have grown in the South. He has become a symbol for the men of the Forest, of protection and light. Often commanding the Hunters of Sigmar in the field, Jerik is known as a fierce warrior and a cunning leader. Jerik Wildorn is a Guardian of the People.

This is not a GW sanctioned special character. Jerik Woldorn counts as a Captain of the Empire, and so takes a Hero choice.

Using the Hunters of Sigmar in Games/Reports
Basicly we want you guys to use the Knights of Sigmar as your Knightly Order in the Nemesis Crown campaign. There are a few way to do this.

1 - Use you Vanilla Knights (un-named knights) and refer to them as Hunters of Sigmar.
2 - Convert some Hunters of Sigmar. This can be done to already made models by adding furs, capes and accesories, or starting from scratch.
3 - Specifically tell your opponent. If you have a specifically painted Order please specifically tell your opponent they are counting as Knights of Sigmar, or they are under the Knights of Sigmars orders or something.

We also want you to mention them in your reports. Basicly, any Knights you use please refer to them as Hunters of Sigmar. Also, there amy be Board-wide news requests that you can post in your reports about the Hunters as well.

Please keep this thread on topic guys. All revisions or add-on ideas are welcome. If anyone wants to make the fluffy part up nicer please Message or e-mail it to me rather than post it here.

This thread is also for showing off any converted/painted Hunters of Sigmar you make, and mine will be up soon.

Thanks guys.

Shall we post info regarding the Hunters of Sigmar with other sites?  If we can arrange a little fluff co-ordination with other races it would help us in establishing them in this campaign.

Volkmar, these guys are kinda like dwarf slayers in the fact they appear before the battle (at least in my mind) to fight Chaos and to protect the Drakwald. Although in general an ulrican army wouldn't support Sigmar, these guys would probably just appear and say: we're helping out, or keep to themselves and just fight.

Actually, maybe we could get some of the other good online communities to mention them if the Heavy Cavalry DoW?
So, Ostmarkers wear purple, but it's manly purple, not like that Bretonnian purple.

Should we approach the other sites and ask them to mention the Hunters of Sigmar where possible?  If we all pull together as an online community then we have a better chance of getting fluff recognised by GW.

By the way, Ive already approached the Great Confluence regions at Bugmans and Da Warpath about doing so at a regional level and the responses so far have been positive.
