Every Month a Theme: April 2017 Hate-ril
« on: November 07, 2016, 02:21:49 AM »
A monthly "theme" for painting is a common idea, but ZeroTwentyThree had some cool suggestions.

It's a simple thing; no contest, no competition, no formal promises or anything. Each month, there is a theme people should paint to and post pictures of what they have painted in this thread. Each month, there will be a different theme - but the themes will be general, allowing almost anyone to participate.

Here are the first couple of months' themes;

Knowvember 2016: Models which rely on intellect or wisdom more than strength or toughness. So; wizards, psykers, priests, engineers, AdMech, etc.
Deadcember 2016: Undead, skeletal or death-themed models - classic undead, Tomb Kings, Legion of the Damned, Plague Marines, or Amethyst Wizards etc.

BLAM!uary 2017: Things that make it go boom! Big guns, tanks, cannons, artillery etc.
February is the shortest month: Small models (Epic, Warmaster or other 15mm or less, but also halflings, dwarfs, ratlings, squats, gnomes etc.)
On the March 2017 : Infantry models from a regular army - things that would march! Halberdiers, Swordsmen, Spears, Imperial Guard etc.
Hate-ril 2017: Models with hatred, animosity or other special rules, or that are oriented towards hatred of the different (Dark Elves, Orcs, Witch Hunters, Inquisitors etc.)
Mayfly 2016: things that fly - dragons, eagles, fliers, jump pack troops etc.
Dune 2017: Models with a desert or sand theme - anything with desert bases, but also AdMech, Araby, Tomb Kings etc.
Fourth of July 2017: Independence, rebellion, freedom! Historical models relating to revolutions, but also fantasy and sci-fi models of the same thing ('Stealer cults, uprisings, soldiers putting down rebellions).
August Personage: A king, duke or other noble leader.
SeptEMBER 2017: Something related to flames or heat - a dragon, a flame cannon, a Bright Wizard, witch hunters or other excitement.
Orctober 2017: Everything greenskin ... or related enough to it for government work!
Newvember 2017: A "new" model - for a new (to you, at least) game or army, or a recently-released model.
Deck-ember 2017: Avast behind, me hearties! All aboard and on deck for some kind of pirate, naval or otherwise ship-related model

I look forward to seeing what people come up with.

Perfect for me. A halfling contingent is one of my two planned projects for 2017.

I still think we need a month dedicated to the humble yet iconic halberdier.

I just painted a white wizard, and have a wizard wagon planned for this month...

Nice timing!

Maybe I'll pick up Niall Stormcaller for knowvember. I've been wanting this guy for years!

Like the idea, but could we only stick to fantasy figures, as this is mainly a Warhammer Fantasy site.
OK Here goes. Supreme Patriarch from Empire collectors guide.

Arrived earlier this year with some metal knight panther from e-bay. Came with armoured horse, so nicked horsie from Bretonnian Knight [He wont mind they have been sat for years unpainted in a box].
Been sat in corner of paint tray in this state for last 8 weeks or so. Challenge accepted.

Was also going to include Warhammer Quest priest, but he's so tall compared with other Empire figures. Need to think on him first.

Fabuary: minis with fabulous hairstyles, like Vlad or Alarielle or DE Black Guard.

I was about to suggest something else but then I remembered that this is a family-friendly forum.

Nope, just like clowns don't charge.

These monthly "puns" never seem to pan out. Ape-ril? Dune? But if someone has a convincing set of 12 then great...

Yeah, that's why my own personal challenge for April (though a few people joined in!) was simply "Giant Month." And I'm still going to stand behind my "I'd Paint S4 Any Day" idea.

Looks great!

Hm, why wouldn't there be Halfling necromancers? On average they might feel less inclined than humans, but there's bound to be some exceptions.

Ape-ril?

Hahaha. Love it.

I am very pleased with the take-up on this - I hope it can help the forum with some interest and action.

I have added in a bunch of other themes for the rest of 2017; I thought doing it out early would help people plan a bit.

My idea in doing these themes (which I realize are quite silly) is to make them sufficiently vague and open-ended almost anyone (regardless of what army they collect) could "enter" each month. With a bit of lateral-thinking, everyone should be able to find something on their desk which can be finished and fit with the theme.

My "knowvember" entry is en route to me - a pseudo-AdMech unit for my Sisters of Battle Army (a Machaenix Canonical, her trio of Tactical-Gynosynths and some servitors and technicians). I think they should be here this weekend - quite excited by the models which are from WargameExclusive.

Do you want us to pile up pics in here, or start a thread each month  (which seems neater)?

LOL! Quite unlike me, that one!

But we should have chaos reins - there is no control in this thread! We are all at the mercy of the whims of a capricious fae fat man who empties his sack as he pleases.
