My Grand Barony of Nordland Army
« on: February 18, 2018, 09:26:02 AM »
Reading the forum for years, I finally decided to start my own topic about my Empire collection-)
It began to grow in 2008. But seriously, I started working on it in 2013, when the Old World moved to its terrible end.
Since then, I and a group of my friends have formed their own small group of dedicated fans of Warhammer FB universe and continue to develop our collections, play story games, etc.

Reading that forum as a Guest since 2011-2012 I picked up a lot of ideas for my regiments, fillers and other stuff, and I must thank many members of the forum for the ideas that I picked up from them "in absentia"-)

So, I'll start with few group shots of my regiments and with every new post in topic will give a sneak peek and comments about my finished units and asking some recommendations for WIP works.

Group shot of 5200 points of my nordlanders from a game vs High Elves

Some shots of my forses from games against WoC and Skaven hordes:

Stay tuned!  :biggriin:

Wow! That’s a fine introductory post. You’ve come to the right neighbourhood with that lot. Looks fantastic 😸

Not me, my friend. Always take faith that I am lower on the scale 😺

They don't, I've seen plenty worse. Most who paint on your level or below just don't show it, or if they do, it's because they're unaware how bad they are. That was me back in the day, I've since rehabilitated my oldest stuff with washes and highlights.

Thanks for so much flattering reviews

Looking forward to some close-ups.

Here I should apologize - but close-ups is not a better side of my army-)) For years of practice I quickly reached my own roof in painting, and for last three year I'm trying to push it higher, but it resists. :eusa_wall:
Because of that and because of visual influence of some painters (like Van Gog, Dega and many others) I choose an "eye-catch" style of painting based on cartoon contrast of colors that distracts from sloppy details. This means that army looks great generally, but close attention to details is disappointing.

And here I got a question for audience -
now I'm working on regiments of hunters (finished magnetic skirmish bases for them) and have a trouble with choosing colours for their clothes:

For me a basic idea was to paint belts in darkgray and to highlight their cloaks in mix of gray and light brown, but working-in-progress I saw that a lot of elements (quivers, boots) will look really good in shades of darkgray and now have a problem with chosing of highlighting colours for clothes:

I will be glad to advice on colors (with the indication of colors from GW or Vallejo ranges)!

Stunning army indeed.
Love it  :smile2:

The only thing I find lacking something is the Steam Tank.
I have no idea why but looking at your photos it seems to me just not as impressive as the rest of the army is.
Maybe it's because of the colour choice, or maybe the presence of big, flat, grey surfaces. I don't know.
What I'm poorly trying to say is that by my point of view it's missing something, and the open cupola on the top is not helping either... Maybe just because it has such a different scheme from the rest of the army, even if you probably used the same silver for the hull and the infantry blades.
But it's just my opinion  :engel: Feel free to ignore it.
Are you planning to put an engineer in the turret?

By the way I truly like your work and I hope to see some other pieces soon  :::cheers:::

This is explained simply - a tank was painted for me by friend as a present about 8 years ago, before I chose new colour scheme for army)
Hands have not yet reached it to repaint a model.
Yep, I have Marco Colombo limited model to put it inside a turret, but repainting stank isn't a near future project.

Oh well, that explains it  :smile2:
I think you should keep it that way, then. In my DE army there's a Medusa painted by a friend of mine which I'll never repaint, even if it's in high contrast with my actual scheme (and it's probably the best painted model I have so far).

About your archers, I suggest you highlight the clothes the way you were thinking at the beginning, and just then decide what to do about quivers and other details, because it seems a darkgray base would give you a perfect result on clothes.

I would add a contrasting colour or even just a different hue of grey to the Grey Wizards. Could be darker, could be lighter. They're a little bit bland now, even though there is a gradient of bluish grey.

Awesome wizards man. I like the look of the effects on the globe. I always have trouble painting fine stuff like that.
