Midaski asked me to post this as I managed to make him laugh so much he became unable to use a keyboard.
Those who know me know that I am a magnet for disaster.
So recently I have...
- Fractured ankle from horse riding
- Ruptured calf muscle from sparing
- Badly bruised spine and kidneys from horse riding

This week I give you sever chest impact giving me several cracked ribs, bruised and battered knees and shins and pulled ligaments in the thigh.
Wednesday night last week I was given the chance to have a go on a motorbike in this chaps back garden (it was quite big).
I have never ridden a motor bike despite my dad having ridden one till the day he died (not related I hasten to add) and my wife having ridden one since she was 18.
So I had a go on a trials bike - these do not have seats (see below), but I got the hang of it on my second attempt.

However on my fourth lap of the garden I lost it a bit. I opened the throttle a little bit too much which through me backwards which made me open up the throttle completely.
I then pulled a wheelie, jumped a flight of sunken steps, went through a privet hedge and dropped 4' on to a barbeque.

The red line is pretty much the route I followed :o(
The barbeque and a host of other garden furniture was squashed. The bike was okay though, and apart from feeling a bit sore, so am I.
Next time I will wait till we are in a field before I have a go……..

Y'know, if you have zero experience at riding a motorcycle, going cross-country (well, cross-garden anyway) on a dirtbike might not have been the best of ideas in the first place. In that you may have, remotely, seen this coming :-D
That kidney area looks hideous. What did that horse do to you?

No, no, no, a requirement of any Darwin award is that the target person is unable to reproduce (usually this means the person has died because of his actions). :-D

I think we have the first flagellant :roll:
Probably have to be a cavalry base, with a flame haired female at the back also wielding another flail - double trouble.

Yeah, I'll go with that. The trouble was after several successful laps you get a bit more confident. I never went out of first gear or particularly fast until it all went pear shaped.
The horse (my old mare called Storm) was having a bad case of PMT. She'd been a git all day and as we gently trotted round a corner she took offense at something that quite probably wasn't there, bucked, dropped her shoulder and then bolted. She took me by suprise, and when she dropped her shoulder she put me off balance and the saddle slipped. I hung on to her side for a bit until gravity took it's course and I landed kidneys first of very exposed, very gnarly tree roots.

Ahh, not my style though. I'm quite a defensive fighter most of the time, and Jules has a preferred weapon in the Lochaber Axe.
Anyway, a lot of the things I do are quite dangerous, and some of them (Cross Country) have a death count (but not at the level I compete at).
Hell, even my son has been surfing for longer than he could swim...!
(under supervision I hasten to add)

I wondered whether you were at the Medieval fare (fayre?) at Loseley park nr guildford last weekend - maybe as one of the re-enactors. I might have seen you there without knowing.

Too true - I've reached the age where I've stopped bouncing so well, and things take longer to heal :-(

Yup I was there - from 10 in the morning (to see the full contact sword tourney) till 6pm when the "big" battle finished.
I wasn't taking part as the group I train with were at another event in Templecomb (and I was broken anyway) but to be honest in that heat I wasn't so sorry about that.
Some of the clanky's in the battle looked like they were puting up very half hearted fights but considering how hot it gets in that get up I'm not surprised and I can't blame them.
There is another one in September which I think is Early Medieval which I do hope to take part in, and a Dark Age one on one of the May bank holidays next year.
