Well then! Who here is a slack painter with more unpainted minis than you care to admit to? I am, unashamed to admit it. The greatest curse in this hobby, aside from cost, is the weight of unpainted miniatures dragging down our souls like iron anchors. Okay, maybe you don't feel that way about it, but I do. Maybe you just want to get stuff painted so your friends stop giving you grief, or so you can run em in a tourney. Whatever your reason, you need to paint more. It can be a drag though. I like to paint, a lot, and there are still times where I'd rather dither about and ignore my brushes.

Well, a big help I've found is other people helping to motivate me. The best, of course, is to have a painting night where you and your mates get together and slap paint on minis while hanging out. Tough to do in today's busy world, so I propose we do that here on Dysartes' forum. Much like the thread I'm shamelessly copying this idea from on Portent, the idea is that you post a list of minis that you need to have painted, and preferably set a deadline to finish them by. Then as you progress on your minis, post updates, preferably with pics. No one is going to razz you for not painting (well, maybe if you're reeeeeally slack), but we sure will cheer you on when you post your stuff.

It may sound a bit wierd, but it works really well for me, others too. So I invite you to join in to the Dysartes Painting Support Group. Membership is easy. Declare your intentions, list your projects, and take part in support. That's it.

But I imagine it's hard to drive yourself to paint rnf when you've already got some you can bring to tourneys in a pinch.

In my defence, I have painted a unit of 20 Swordsmen, and 2 units of 20 spearmen, but they aren't up to my current painting standard, and they don't fit my Altdorf theme, so I didn't include those in my list, nor did I include my 20 something militia, or the 20 Crossbows, or my 5 pistoliers that I've done, although the milita, xbows, and pistoliers probably just need some ink and better bases.

Lets see, I was going to a INDY GT a year and 4 months ago.  I was in a rush to finish 10 militia.  I had them painted except for bases, final face higlights and some inking/shading/touching up.  Then I redid my list and didn't have room for them.

Yup, they still need inking/shading/touching up.

So if people do something to a unit, are they going to come back to their original post and 'edit' the colour?

That way we can see how people progress, by the newly coloured entries in their original list.

For example if Donnachaidh above finishes his 'Captain on Pegasus' then it would stay positioned where it is, but change from brown to green - so everyone can see who has progressed.

I'd like to have the biggest army ever, but I have nowhere to hide it, and it is becoming a tad expensive...however, I think that my army will be but a detachment to Midaski's vast horde...I vaguely recall a thread a long while back about who had what in their army, his was humongous if I remember aright....
Still, my Chaos is approaching the 40 thousand point mark, so not too much further to go with them.....must....get to....50....thousand....

Hi, I am Ashford and I am a slack painter...

As a former HE player I own a 2500 -3000 points HE army, but only half of it is painted yet. My goal when starting empire is to make an army from the ground up, building it in steps of around 500 points each. My first goal is this list:

Warrior priest
23 swordsmen
9 halberdiers
6 handgunners
5 knights

Further down the line is the following

Well, I'm utterly freaked out!! Last night I not only assembled a heap of minis, I managed to do the test scheme for my marauders and chaos warriors!! 2 painted minis!! Which not only look great, but were very quick to do. Oh, and started to paint 5 more swordies...metal and the base coats for red and white only, but it's a start.
Somehow I can see my Chaos army being done before the Empire....oops! Mind you, I sometimes wish my chaos warriors were new and not 5th ed, there's a stupid amount of bits that need to be done in brass...fiddly bits, too.
I feel strangely motivated....but it's ok, it won't last! :icon_biggrin:

According to my callender I should everything by now, but i havent... The dwarfs Dwarfs, light cav and pikemen, giant and xbows are now completed, but it still feels like there is a long way to go (if there is just one horse, it's a long way... just hate painting them.

I have two separate lists to maintain here, because I have a unique situation going on. I needed some more people to play Warhammer with around here, so I drug in some friends. One of them is absolutely abysmal at all things requiring creativity (such as painting), so he and I have a deal going on. He keeps me in supplies, I've been painting his Dark Elves. I got back in mainly because I wanted to paint, so it worked out well for me. I also have my own empire army to keep painted, but both of them suffer from my other addiction, World of Warcraft. I don't like getting paint on my mouse and keyboard. I have very few things assembled and unpainted, since I prefer to paint the bits and then assemble the buggers, but that's just me.

I don't know if some of you ever visit the underempire, but each month they're is a painting vow. everyone post what he vows to do that month and write about it's progress.

It's a greater incentive since you have a time limit. logical that the idea started in a skaven forum...soo many model to paint.

Back on the 20th of April I had this much painted (http://www.warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=15012.msg179399#msg179399). In the meantime I've finished painting, but haven't yet based, the rest of the halberdiers, duellists and cannon crew, as well as the rest of my old handgunners. I've also re-undercoated the five swordsmen I had started on because I wasn't happy with them. I tried to make a start on the crossbowmen, but after painting one guy's jump-suit and fugly head combo I lost the will to live. Where's my puff 'n' slash?  :closed-eyes:

To be perfect honest I've been being pretty slack. Other things like exams, course-work, girlfriends and good weather have rather taken over, and yesterday I finally bit the bullet and packed away my painting stuff to make room for revision. To top it off a friend of mine is trying to tempt me into collecting 40K, offering cheap Grey Knights - I'm planning on using the discount to buy some of those pretty Forge-World DKoK grenadiers to use as stormtroopers. My plan to get some free flock off the same guy has fallen through though, so basing will have to wait.

The next thing I paint will probably be the Pistoleers. They're quite characterful, unlike the state-troops, and I remember horses being a breeze when I did my knights.

Sorry to drag up this long dead topic, but I think it's a great motivational tool, and one anyone can use. If the moderators disagree then fairie schnuff.

Back on the 14th of May I had this much painted (http://www.warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=15012.msg183986#msg183986). Surprisingly enough I still haven't tackled those state troops, but on the bright side I've based almost all of my army, and my friend now have about 15 ogres. I got mullered at a doubles tourney with him as my ally, but it provided me with the incentive to get things going. The usual things have come up to stop me, like exams and the pub, and soon I'll have the excuse of three weeks sailing. There are a few other random bits that have been added - the galloper gun, the wizards and  the Hellstrom being the most notable. The HSRL is a converted hellblaster, using a land raider bit and some random cogs, with the barrels re-arranged to resemble three racks of Katyusha rockets (http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/weapons/palestine/katyusha.jpg) ontop of one another. I also now have dice and a tape measure  :eusa_clap:

Next it's the wizard, and after him I guess I'll have the bite the bullet and paint that block. That way I can be approaching the 1,500 point mark, and with a regiment of greatswords the 2,000. I suppose I also need more knights as well - if someone wants to send me £150 so I can buy two big boxes I'd be most grateful.
