This is sort of a blog I suspect, and where I put up my work as time goes by. Gone is the O&G project, the Ogre fling, the High Elf madness, the Necrons, the Orks, the Bretonnians, and the Skavens. I am stuck with the two armies that I like, and the ones that will get my fullest attention...
... Empire and Imperial Guard!
I know that the latter is not really for this site, but there is no other army that looks like Empire is terms of style and similarity even if it is set in a much grimmer future. You may also see a few terrain pieces that I intend to paint (GW plastic all the way) but in the end, it is about ordinary humans.
The "blog" will not contain a lot of mass pics of minis like ordinary troopers, but focus more on the main points and centerpieces of the armies. I will not add pics of the stuff I am doing for friends (like the Dark Elf stuff I have painted) but only stuff for those two armies above.
As usual most of the minis are painted to my army standard but now and then, I will add some of my better painted minis like the upcoming Ludwig Schwartzhelm and, gasp, the clock horse Engineer. :icon_cool:
For some of my old pics go here:
We are Unberogen! (http://s229.photobucket.com/albums/ee48/SL-PN/Empire/)
We are the Hammer! (http://s229.photobucket.com/albums/ee48/SL-PN/Imperial%20Guard/)
Over the Christmas weekends I managed to get a Stank (one out of three) and 6 Ogryns painted.

Besides the Hydra, and some other DE stuff I am doing, I converted the following Halberdiers out of two units mostly (6th ed. Soldiers with halberds and other stuff from the Militia box). The banner was done by an artist who owes me a few more (so expect some goodies in the future), who is also a friend (with a huge Averland army and a mega-huge 40K Ork force). The 29 halberdiers have different heads (metal heads from older minis) and some ornaments from various newer sets. I greenstuffed some hair and minor things on these to make them all individual.
This unit is my main unit for my General (the Lion shield).

You have some sweet models there and the paint job is very well done! :::cheers:::
-
I agree with with Peram, those are sweet! :eusa_clap:
Nice use of that 'wounded Guardsman' on the Ogryn base too.
Lord knows why GW wasted their time with that model.
-
Great work Shadowlord, any chance of a better pic of the standard :engel:
Cheers

Will come when I finish the unit this month or the next.
Thanks folks. :icon_cool:

Excellent modelling and painting.
Keep being awesome... :icon_wink:

I thought a wounded guardsman was a dead guardsman........ :icon_biggrin:
Great job... I love that standard.
-
very good, love the stank and the variety in the halbadiers. steveb
-
Excellent work on the halberdiers . :eusa_clap:
Looking forward to seeing the unit painted up .
-
Looks great. I like the Stank. But I have to say that the mould line in the first pic on the steam gun/turret sticks out like a sore thumb to my critical eye.

No shit! :eusa_wall:
I noticed the darn thing when I took the pic but since this won't be my main Stank, I'll let it slide.
But thanks. :icon_cool:
-
Wow, it looks fantastic!
-
Off topic here but just saw your roughriders on photobucket, any more progress on them?
ANd now back to topic, that giant that you have is hilarious, nice work.
-
I am working on my Steamtank to, and I also play Bogenhafen. You just gave me the last little push to finish it! Thanks a lot! I like the little details you changed.
-

Yes but not by me, a young unemployed local fellow who have painted a large portion of my IG army is being commissioned to finish those with the Ogryn tank (I focus on the troopers and characters) and another Leman Russ. Don't want to paint many more tanks considering the new sprue etc. will be released in may.
My own goal will be to remake my AL, the Halberdiers and their swordmen detachment, three characters, and priests for 40K IG.
Thanks.
@Jodocus: Yeah I swapped one of the scrolls, used another smoke stack, and took the little angel from my Volkmar banner. I also changed Engineer to a more normal sized human instead of a basketball player (even if he is a great sculpt).

So time for another update...
I HATE YOU LUDWIG SCHWARTZHELM!
With that out of my chest I have managed to "finish" painting the Emperor's Champion on his white steed.
Unlike the Swedish/Nordland looking Kurt from the GW site, and indeed our book, I decided to make him more Reiklandish by the look of it. I used black and gold barding (I hate painting gold), and a creamy white flag. I was adviced against painting the griffon with some wings whiteish because it would look odd with the flag, I ignored such debauchery and went with my favorite province colors.
I could easily spend a few hours more to finish this BSB but since I am off to fight in a big Legendary Battles tomorrow he has to do. The cherub, the base, and some touching up is still to be done but other than that he is completely finished. I love this model but it was a pain in the ass to paint. He is not my best paintjob (my Averlander Ogre still holds that title) but he will have to do as a SC.
Too bad most of the blending is destroyed by the camera. :icon_frown:

I had these commissioned by Mike Butcher some time ago, and commissioned painted by a local talent who is helping me out with my IG. I will not show more of other's work in this thread but both are unique and at least some peak is OK (I have ten Rough Riders painted all in all).

Only those stuck in 6th ed. believes that a unit of swordsmen have a higher survival rate than halberdiers when faced with the elite of the 7th ed.
Besides halberdiers are cool.

Show us!
That's one of the best Schwartzhelms I've ever seen. Keep it up! :::cheers:::

Halberdiers suck....
Especially against Giant slayers...

Outstanding!
Ludwig in particular is a gem.
:::cheers:::
-
Excellent effort with Ludwig. :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool: :eusa_clap:

I loved painting Ludwig (my friends not mine otherwise I would have posted it) I just thought assembling him was the crappy part... that damn sword arm :-D

Cool stuff!

Damn you "The Adventures of Florin and Lorenzo" novel by BI, damn you to hell! ::heretic::
I vouched to never touch Ogre Kingdoms again but the Savage Kingdom novel (found in the trilogy above) was so moody that I had to mysteriously get a hold of an OK battalion. I promised myself not to open it, as my weakness for miniatures is well know (well you know, all gamers suffers from this predicament). Said and done, broke my promise, assembled six bulls and well the rest will shown here shortly.
In the meantime I bought back my Maneaters that a guy did for me some time ago that I sold back to him when I lost interest in having too many Ogres for my Empire army (I saved only my greatswords). Now he never used them, even if I did paint one of the gut giants in his Empire army, Averland. So today I got them back for my own stash. While the GW maneaters are excellent, like the butchers and other heroes I find them too big.
Here is one of the bastards and I painted him for a competition over at TWF some time ago (he came second).
Here are the rest, just started, and I am still puzzled what province they should have fought in before returning to their tribe.
Ideas are welcome. :icon_cool:
A short update of the rest of my other two armies... The halberdiers is getting color but I am somewhat pissed that I sprayed them white as it feels like it takes longer to paint. The first row is complete however and only needs to be based. I am also painting/finishing my own commissioned Ratlings for my IG so when those two units are done, I will update this log again.
Ta!
-
@ Shadowlord: First of all, its a really nice army you got there :eusa_clap: I really dig your style of painting alot! Is it possible that you could explain how you painted the woodgrain on the pistols & barrel?
-
man i love your freehands! that skull on the halberdiers banner is stunning!^^
the skin tones are pretty good too, as the wooden part, but otherwiese the metal has no shadow ty to use some ogryn flash and leviathan purple,
good job anyway
-

IIRC, I did it with a graveyard earth, highlighted with kaki and a mix of bleached/white.

Must be the pics or your screen as the metal is in 3 shades plus 2 - 3 glazes. :icon_cool:
-
damn shadowlord i love your style and I envy the amount of models you have.
-
Fantastic minis!
Ludwig is great. I especially like the attention you have paid to the banner and particularly the 'Karl Franz on Griffon' side.

Ogres are out again... Except for my Empire Ogres (20 of them in total). :icon_rolleyes:
I am currently working on a unit of 8 Bulls with full command, two characters, and some Ratlings. I suspect they will be completed in about a fortnight but with my line of work they might take longer. As soon as I finish them I will upload the pics here in this blog.
But before that happens I just want to show you what someone, who is new on this forum, painted for me by commission.
Why commission stuff? Because I HATE PAINTING HORSES (got rid of my own) and well, the rest followed in a batch I sent the guy.
Click here for his own excellent Speed Painting Blog! (http://www.warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=27027.msg357677#msg357677)
theVenerableThaumaturge is also known as Old Fogey, and is one of two Masters of Grime over at TWF (and the SOB who always beat my ass when there was a painting competition).

These models have made me proud on the battlefield, especially the two knight units (the first is for my general, and the second for my Grandmaster, seen above with the rest of the pics).
Stay tuned for some of my own painted stuff.
-
Very cool kinghts. I'm tempted to go get three boxes and get painting right now.
-
Yeah, when painted correctly the knights look sweet.
Here are some WIP of my Empire Bulls. So far they have been fun to paint and quite different from ordinary humans. The clubs are a tad bit big but the guy who made these for me wanted some comical looks with these harbour bullies as they entered the battlefield. Also notice the bellower's massive gut.

BTW, here are my 12 bitz boxes that I have filled with just Empire goodness. Some of the gems include 300+ 6th ed. Empire Soldiers, 80+ metal flaggies, and truck load with handgunners, spearmen, pistolier legs etc. from 6th ed. Yummy and daddy's prized treasure. And yes I cut everything I had into these boxes except for 2 Batallion boxes 6th Empire. When I get the time, they too will end up in these almost filled boxes.

The green shields were made by the most excellent hiker Otaku.
-
Oh, my  That IS a LOT of bitz...
So now that yu've sorted them, what are you going to make out of them which will not cause disruption within? :engel:
(You could make a very large chaos spawn? Out of ALL the bits?)
Shadowwolf
-
Since your boxes are nearly overflowing, how about selling one of those two batallion boxes to lil ol' me ?
-
Holy smokes!
-
How about giving one of the batallion boxes to lil old me? :-P
-
You've finished your army, Eight, you don't have a need for it :icon_wink: How about giving me one? :closed-eyes:
-
*sits down with some popcorn and watches the row lining and begs Shadowlord give them one of his boxes*
:engel:

Erm....
Bugger.
Got any Ork batallion?
-
How about giving one of the batallion boxes to lil old me? :-P
Yeah, had you been living close (I bet your parents thank God you do not), you would have gotten one.
But I bought three old Bats for the cannons and the soldiers, and gave away the knights (24 to Mathi).
No way I am shipping the gold plastic of 6th ed.
Not even for soth (whom I otherwise have been generous too). :icon_cool:
-
True and appreciated.
-
I would almost drive to you for 6th ed. state troops
-
A truly frightening collection of excess. My congratulations and envy.
-
Your warfie ogres are fantastic, I love the original stuff you have in here. Well done mate.
-

Thanks, I hope to finish these this week or the next.
A truly frightening collection of excess.
It is a tad bit over the top no doubt but I can't help myself from collecting.
-
What "true hobbyist" can stop collecting? Bravo.
-
If you've earned the cash, why not?

My problem is not money, it is buying 100% and painting 10%, buying 100% and painting 10%, repeat.
I'm afraid to show my unpainted IG collection.
Of course with steveb here, my excess is mild. Thanks steveb. :::cheers:::

Sounds very very familiar...
-
shadowlord, you are way too organised. steveb
-
Oh, I know you've no problem with money, which is my point. Buying models you don't end up painting isn't much different from buying a beer you end up just pissing out a few hours later. Or anything else really. You've got the means, so why not collect as you do? It's all good clean fun after all.
Your bits collection is awesome, a lesser hobbyist could get lost in there.
-

NO, because...
shadowlord, you are way too organised. steveb

:icon_lol:
I would have done the same with my IG if it hadn't been for all those tanks.
Hard to fit in good boxes they are.
-
I'm impressed by the bits boxes Shadowlord. You must have some (?) German blood in you .............
After several years of buying all sorts of odd compartment type storage items from motorist shops or DIY stores, I have started using these:
http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/uk/html/boxdetails.php
http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/uk/html/traydetails.php
which look very similar to yours - but they aren't khornate coloured ...................... :icon_wink:
I am using the two-tiered ones and have 3 so far, but I still have my old compartment stuff and a lot on sprues.
