I just had to create a thread about this to show you guys what kicked me in the pants to even attempt the Grand Theogonist I did.  Check out these russians. the truely insane part is that these models aren't a whole lot bigger than the scale we usually work in only 54mm. I don't know if those are St. Petersburg Collection figures, but that's one place that does similar work. They're about twice the scale of WFB figures. They look every bit as amazing in person -- I've drooled on them at conventions before.

The original site didn't work for me, but here's something...

those are pretty sweet but I wish they had bigger pictures, if I'm gonna pay $165 dollars for a mini, then I want to see exactly what it looks like.

Did you click on the "Details" button next to each one?

There are probably places with better pics somewhere. This was just the first place I googled that worked.

The thing about these figures is that when I look at them and think about how long it would take me to do something similar (and it wouldn't look as nice!), some of these figures seem like a steal, even at those prices.

My only criticism is that some of them have some pretty funky/stiff poses. But the painting is great!

Those are  amazing and inspirational. But can you imaging trying to paint a whole army like that?  It would take ages. And then you probably wouldn't want to play with them. I'd just sit and stare at them. ...    I know being twice as big as our minis makes a huge difference though.

I first saw them in a copy of historic miniatures magazine. but since have found them here http://tin-soldiers.pl.ru/  there are quite a lot of other works and companys besides Kolobob, but yeah they were the ones that made me even try to do the fancy barding I did on the war altar and the hand painted banners.  I'm working on building up my skills so I can be ready for my KF on an imperial dragon, directly inspired by the 15th cent standard bearer.

So they say that jousting is the sport of princes, pretty fancy war gear here. pics also from the kolobob site those guys just floor me.  I am fascinated by how they use glazes to throw the tapestry patterned cloth images right into the weave of the cloth not letting the pattern simply sit on top like it's painted. that and the horses hair actually is hairy.  The details of the model itself are astonishing, like the belt accross the cantle of the saddle holding the add on cuisses in place and the lance holders, to say nothing of the detail of the armour itself. The raised gold etching over gunblued back ground and polished steel borders is flawless, I've seen fullsize armours that didn't have this detail picked out.

This is how my old boss at the toy soldier store I used to paint at could paint.... Almost made me not want to paint around him..

-
didja at least get pointers?  I would hope so, oh to be able to sit at the elbow of a master watching the progress and getting in pocess critiques of my own work.

Oh yeah I worked there for 3 months and came out a far better painter than when I went in.... It just sucks because he broke his back he could only sit at the desk for like 30 minutes before he had to go back to his recliner in the back office.

I think I kinda lost my will to live.

No wonder I ever post anything longer than a sentance or two here in Brush and Palette when there's only things like this to look at. I'm always so awestruck by the material presented here I just usually sit still silently for a minute or two. Sometimes silence just makes more justice to some works of art than any words man can utter.

well I can only hope that like someone going to a famous art museum or gallery you are inspired to tell your story in paint and expression.  I only presented these here as a statement of what has recently inspired me to do better, other works are some of the more illustrious members of this community whose work is already on other threads.
