So, as 8th Edition looms up before me with, still, no sign of Dogs of War in sight, I'm thinking that the thousands of points of mercenaries in my closet are, at long last, going to be broken up.
It's not too bad. Most of the models convert over to the Empire easily - Pikemen become Spearmen, Heavy Cavalry becomes Knights, Crossbowmen become...well, Crossbowmen. As I recall, the Gryphon Legion's rules permit a unit to be fielded as a Rare choice in an Empire army, so the Kislevites go as well, and the Ironguts are dressed as wannabe-Greatswords anyway. No Empire army can ever have enough artillery, so they won't complain about adding three more guns and their crews. The Goblin wolf riders, formerly light cavalry, will be set aside (with Hobgobla Khan) for my planned Wolf Rider horde. Most of the gutter runners (formerly duelists) can transfer over to my wife's Skaven army without incident.
But there are just over a dozen rats armed with pistols, and for the life of me, I'm not quite sure what to do with them. They were Duelists, and quite useful ones, but as they need a new role now, and I don't see rats featuring in a Reikland army particularly well, but I'm not sure they fit into a Skaven army, either. Any brilliant thoughts or something I've missed? Any considerations on what fate these rats should find?

You may be thinking about saying goodbye to Dogs of War prematurely - though I don't know if you game casually or not...
Mordhiem?
Skaven slaves with cool looking slings?

Well, the models will still be around, they'll just be repainted to fit in better with other armies. I would LOVE to see Dogs of War return, but I can't keep them sitting idle on the shelf forever...

First off you can use them in the Summer Campaign .............. I think rufus' rules cover every DOW entry going ....................
....... and that gives you some time to ponder further.
Play skirmish games like Legends of the High Seas - whatever models they are the crew need pistols. :engel:
Look at what "Von Kurst" is doing with mixtures of Ship Rules and Mordheim for a Skaven crew.

Empire armies use mercenaries, and it seems you have everything except the rats with pistols covered. I don't see it being a problem having a single unit of models sitting around just in case. We never know when someone like W-E campaign team will put together the army lists like they have for the T&G event. Besides, if I was getting in a T&G oriented game with you, I'm sure we could come up with a reason for the rats to be on the table.
As for repainting, I wouldn't unless I was really unhappy with the current paint job. I'd rather paint some of the newer projects on my table.
