Hello there.
I'm a long term viewer of some great armies in the Brush and Pallete section of this fantastic website and thought that I contribute too.
So here starts my Empire plog: Vesticus' Grand Army of Altdorf and Reikland (huzzah!)
Some of the models will be one I have already painted over the last couple of years but hot off the painting table is the champion for my demigrpyhs;

Welcome!
I like your painting style. It looks very clean and simple at first glance, but after some time you spot all the subtle details.
Cheers. :::cheers:::

'Grats mate. Good looking demi gryph there! :::cheers:::
-
As a matter of interest, what colours and washes did you use for the gold armour?
-
Fantastic! :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:

Great stuff! Pls post more of your work

Bathazar Gold basecoat followed by a shining gold layer, then Burnished gold, then a sepia wash. All GW but a mix of old and new paints. I can't justify getting the new layer paints as I have too many old ones still to use but I'm slowly getting all the new basecoats to replace my foundation colours.

Thanks for the comments guys. I need to have a major photography session of the stuff that's already painted but won't have time until the weekend. Hope to have 4 DGK's finished tonight as I'm playing with them on Tuesday evening.

nice !! ::heretic::

I'm really pleased with how they look, although I might go back and add something to the pennants (and to add names to the scrolls).
I also need to work a bit on my photography.

:eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: Wow!!

Looks great!

I have had a bit of a go taking photos of my already painted models and I'm going to post up one per day.
Today's model is my bright wizard

Another one tomorrow

One of the better Brights i have seen... nice work on the flames, love the black tips! :eusa_clap:
-
Looks good.
However, is the background supposed to blue, and not white? Otherwise you should check the colour balance in your camera.
-
nice but pic is toooo close up,
take on white B/G
at longer range
-
Admittedly, I hate this sculpt. But you've painted it so well, I can overlook that! Really great job on the flames! :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:

I love it :::cheers::: it's like he wants a big fiery hug of DOOM ::heretic::

Some pictures I took using a white background (just the lightbox material) while some used a graduated blue background. Note sure which I prefer but i'll have another go at taking more pictures at the weekend.

Ok so here is another photo.
My General of the Empire

I forgot to take a picture of him from behind to show the cloak :eusa_wall:

Your painting is for sure great! Very smooth and precise.
But, I still think that the whole picture looks blue, rather than just the background. In some cameras the white balance has to be changed manually, try and take a picture of a pure white surface, and if it turns out blue, you'll have to change these settings. I hope this is helpful and that you don't see it as critique, I had this problem myself for a long time with my new camera before a friend told me what was the problem.
-
Good job, I believe the general would improve if you do a bit more work on the swords hilt. Perhaps painting the grip of the hilt in blue, red or black. Also the guard of the hilt would go better in the same gold you used for the pommel. Cheers. :happy:

I think you might be right. A red leather grip would be another point of contrast on that side of the model.
Thanks for the feedback.

I'll have a play with settings next time I shoot some photos. I haven't practiced enough to discover a method that works well every time, it's a bit hit and miss at the moment.
All comments welcome though.

The steel on the general looks amazing.

For today's model I have finished my Light wizard.
1st time I have tried painting marble and i'm really pleased with how it looks.

Photos are a little better, still not perfect though.

that looks top class mate.
Can you photo the model on a white B/G?
Your first two images look blue tinted and the 3rd is blurred , :eusa_wall:
sorry , the model looks so good i had to ask for a new pic !
-
No problem, I'll take some more pics tonight.
-
Wow, he looks awesome! The white is so smooth and the pose is menacing.
Painting marble is hard, especially on such a small surface. Did you finish it with an ink?

Here is a photo against a "white" background. It was taken outside so no bulbs involved.
Looks like I need to read my camera manual switch it to manual for once!

Painting is great as always!
Here's some general info on colour balance/white balance
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_balance
But yeah, taking a look in the manual sound like the best way. Good luck!
-
Fantastic! :::cheers::: :::cheers::: :::cheers:::
I've been waiting for an afternoon to take a stab at this model myself.

I hope you don't mind, but I took some liberties and ran an Auto Adjust Colors in the free image editing utility IrfanView. Depending on the colors in the photo, it won't always fix a bad white balance properly, but this looks to have done extremely well in fixing it. It will improve most pictures, but every once in a while it'll actually make a photo worse and you'll need to manually adjust the colors and balance. Here are the results.
