Pretty much what it says in the title
-
Nope. They are both types of magic armour, so unless it's a special character with set equipment or one of the items is listed in a different category of magic item for some reason, you can only have one or the other. Ref Rulebook p 172 "Balance of Power" section.

"Balance of Power" nips this in the bud.

commandant, why are you asking this question? With 2400+ posts I'm pretty sure you know the answer to this.
*sniff* *sniff* ....do I smell a troll?

Not trolling, just I saw on the Magical Armour section that they had the models described as wearing armour and having a shield and if they had magical armour they replaced the mundane armour or shield and I seemed to recall lengthy treads about BSBs having magical shields, but couldn't find the section where it said they could not have magical armour and a magical shield.
This tread can now be locked, deleted or whatever happens to question treads where the question is answered.

Your username seems ironic in the context of this post :( Commandant asked an honest question, albeit one that was easily answered by a simple statement. What profit would be there - even from a trolling perspective - of him asking such a simple question? If he had asked about (for example) steadfast, sure that could be trolling, but this?
Sad Darknight is sad at the assumption Commandant would troll.

One could say that even that is trolling.

Maybe he is a bad troll :icon_lol:

And on that note, Commandant wins the thread.

Can I hijack a thread for the sake of not starting a brand new one and not to troll (notice my limited post count)? Wait, what?
Do Runefangs count as great weapons (conveying the +2 Str hit and Always Strikes Last)? Common sense tells me they do but I wanted to verify.
-
A Runefang's S is not relevant, because it is always wound. In fact, there is much debate about what a Runefang's S "counts as" for the purposes of special items which rely on the S of an attack - and I don't think there is a clear answer.
But a Runefang is NOT a Great Weapon - specifically because the description does not say it is, and also because of evidence in the Marius Leitdorf entry (where he fights with a Runefang in one hand and a dagger in the other). It is also the case that the Runefang model in the general kit is a single handed weapon, not two handed (and there is a two-handed weapon in the kit).

Nope. They are just large swords (like everything in Warhammer, bigger is apparently better). If a magic weapon is a Great Weapon (with the associated benefits and penalties) it will say so in the description (see the Mace of Helstrum in the Empire AB).

There is a clear answer - it is the strength of the wielder. As in all other similar cases. So Pendant of Kaloth is no protection unless you also drink a Potion of Strength (obviously just for the lulz).

Ah, then my assumption was wrong. Thanks for the clarification. :::cheers:::

are you sure that was not trolling... ? hehehe

Wasn't meant to be. I've very limited experience in the rules of Warhammer (I've only played one 500pt tutorial game) and sometimes I'm embarrassed to ask questions. Judging by the size and two-handed pommel of the Runefangs I've seen on figures, I assumed they were great weapons. But the point about magic weapons specifying "great weapon" in their description was one I overlooked.

There is no indication, however small, for any of these assumptions. In fact, it is counter-logical to assume that a weapon that auto-wounds has a bonus strength, any strength at all or itself uses a strength, especially in the light that at no point and in no rule any number or hint has ever been given. Just think about it - +2 S to autowound!!
It therefore is self-evidently not affected by a Pendant Lord's reverse ward either as some have erroneously claimed.

A good general rule with Warhammer is if it doesn't explicitly say it, then it's not. It doesn't apply in all situations but it should get you through most.

As a basic principle I would not judge anything by the models, as by that logic Greatswords would be in light armour

Hilariously true.

Sounds like a good approach. I'm still mulling over the rules so that should help. Thanks again.

Don't be embarrassed to ask questions. There is a metric *#$% ton of rules and not all of them are clear, a quick look around this forum will give evidence to that. Guys who have been gaming for decades are still "mulling over the rules" and asking questions.

if my general wears 2 suits of plate armour on top of each other does he get a 1+ AS?
:icon_eek:

Yes. But also -2 M and -2 WS.
