In the absence of big nasties or a multitude of chariots enemy war machines are usually a priority target for my war machines.
So this question is bound to come up soner or later: What happens to the crew after that a great cannon has taken out the war machine? It is unlikely that I can take out more than one of the crew with the cannon template, wich should leave 1-2 crew left. Are they considered slain, killed by shrapnel and debris, or can they be used to reinforce another war machine or run around behind your lines.
-
They are there as a skirmish unit which must flee if charged. If another machine loses its crew they can recrew it.
-
peteratwar has it. Especially that last part is important, they can only join another warmachine that has lost it's original crew, so no beefing up of other arty crews!
-
really, i always plated that they join an exsisting crew of the same type. You live and learn
-
I had also hoped that I could reinforce a depleted crew with fresh gunners from a destroyed cannon. Oh well.
-
Hmm.. then an interesting question would be:
If say, one warmachine has been destroyed, and two of the crew are still alive. Now you have another warmachine standing around of which only one crewmember lives. As you just stated, the two crewmen from the first warmachine can only recrew the other of it's former crew has been entirely slain. But, can the single crewman voluntarily leave his warmachine, so that the other two can take over?
-
No, warmachines can only leave their machine to recrew another machine, so he has no option of leaving

I ran across that one time, too. It sucked. I had one crewman on a HBVG and 3 crewmen left from a cannon that was destroyed. The 3 crewmen stood right behind the HBVG waiting for him to croak. My opponent was saavy enough to not make an effort to kill off that one last crewman on the HBVG.
It was quite annoying and IMHO a pretty lame rule that the one can't leave so the others can take over.
-
Yeah, seems pretty nonsensical. Three perfectly able crewmen just standing around while that poor last HVG crewman works frantically to work the blasted thing all by his lonesome. :(

"Hey there Ernie, we'd like to help, but you know how these Union rules are. Oh, and you forgot to swab that barrel there."

I recall a battle report with an artillery crew charging in WD? Was this one of their many rules mistakes??

yes. War machine crew are forbidden to charge. There is a bit of a debate regarding using spells to make the crew frenzied and force them to charge that way.
