Hey all, I'd forgotten that this part of the forum existed. I have not been painting any Warhammer stuff this year, but instead have been painting Star Wars Legion. I'll share some stuff here. First up are my Separatists:

I had a few extra Battle Droids left over after a side project, so I add them as optional riders for the Tank.
-
This is awesome! That first pic of the droid pack made me think they were huge until the next when the humie appeared 😺
-
Those look great!
So let me make sure I understand this ... the figures come in what color plastic?
And then they get painted. :icon_cool:
(GP ... what are you thinking?)
Well, I'm wondering what the game is like.
-

True, although Count Dooku is a rather tall model.
Those look great!
So let me make sure I understand this ... the figures come in what color plastic?

(GP ... what are you thinking?)
Well, I'm wondering what the game is like.
They come in grey plastic. Although for a long time they were a softer plastic and came in baggies. Now they are hard plastic and come on sprues.
The game is fun. Not quite as fiddle as Warhammer. I also really like the old D6 rules from West End Games, so I use these models with them sometimes too.
-
So who owns the product currently, or did West End just "upgrade" the rules to whatever they are now, D10?
-
Fantasy Flight Games now holds the license. They make Legion, X-Wing, Armada, the current RPG, and others.
-
Ah. And its a die 10 system :icon_question:
And I just went looking on their site. Uh oh.
-
It is a mixed-dice system. Many of their systems used polyhedral dice with funky symbols on them.
-
Glad I have other dice besides 6 sided, mostly 10 sided, but a few others. Do the starter sets come with a rule book :icon_question:
The description says it comes with everything to play, yet it didn't mention dice nor rule book.
Wasn't drawn to the initial starter set when I first saw it, it seemed like more of the same, perhaps since the last three films had many of the same characters, and I felt all the marketing has been on overkill. However, I like what I see with the new Clone Wars models, and it feels more like a pair of table top sci-fi armies to me, a bit more removed from the marketing overkill, and I might enjoy playing either side, plus it might help with my various nephew's being interested in table top miniature gaming.
-
Oh, it comes with its own dice. Very specialized dice.
-
So I painted these droids in January (all except for the tank, which didn't arrive until May.) I painted Republic forces in February:
Obi Wan and a squad of Clone Troopers
(https://forum.reapermini.com/uploads/monthly_2020_02/20200202_133258.thumb.jpg.01a0782760d55533c8b85464cc748759.jpg)
Captain Rex and another squad of Clones
(https://forum.reapermini.com/uploads/monthly_2020_02/20200209_081639.thumb.jpg.6f3b4dc6d3ec596c264e9fa8c700d0e4.jpg)
BARC Speeder
(https://forum.reapermini.com/uploads/monthly_2020_02/20200212_055943.jpg.85bffb89d199c9de0ef4ebd96c7831ee.jpg)
Later I decided to paint a clone helmet for Obi Wan, too.
The Saber Tank also arrived in May.
I managed to get a game in as well. My daughter defeated me! But at least my Moon Base Klaisus terrain is getting some use.

Good job :eusa_clap:
-
These look great! :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool: :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::
Love that you're using the Warcry scenery with this, and am sensing the scenery alone in the Warcry starter set could be worth purchasing the Warcry kit, if one can find it for less than GW's newest cost on line. I got mine for $170 as opposed to the $280 cost that GW is charging on line. Their cost left me wondering if the shipping is free, and they are just adding in the shipping cost anyway? I'm going to check with my local hobby store, and see if the other scenery for Warcry is cheaper thru them as well. But I digress.
So ... I found out that the rules are provided in the Clone Wars starter set. And then there is some sort of download to get the revisions or some such. Good to know. I've asked for a price on this from my local hobby store, and can see myself purchasing the Clone Wars set asap.
So many fun looking things in this silly hobby of ours! :icon_lol: :icon_mrgreen:
-
Looks fantastic! I've been contemplating a dive into the Star Wars legion stuff for a little while now. I quite like the models, and your painting is fantastic.
-
Thanks! The models really are great, and the game is fun too.
-
I like the tanks quite a bit actually. They have more detail then I was expecting.
-
Nicely done!
-
That was January and February. In March I worked on my Imperials. Starting with Shoretroopers.
I painted an alternate head for one so I can use him as an RPG character. I think you all will recognize it!
Then there was the Dewback and rider. Green contrast paint made the dewback a cinch to paint.
I repainted my Snowtroopers and E-web crew as Galactic Marines.
I used a few of Grievous' extra sabers to turn this Magus into an Inquisitor.
And finally, I painted up a Phase II clone helmet to be an Imperial Pilot for my Saber Tank.
-
Like what you did with these alot. Excellent. And fantasy flight better start paying yiou a commission because I've almost been recruited into buying these figures.
-
The converted Inquisitor looks ace there.
-
Thank you! I have a few 40K figs to use as characters. I can share some more later. In April I focused on my Alliance stuff. I finally finished a Laser Cannon crew that I had started a lot earlier.
Here are my rebel veterans. I went with a non-Hoth sceme for these guys.
Two Tauntaun riders. Also non-Hoth.

Lastly these two.

Awesome !☝️
-
I still like the Clone Wars figures better, but the painting on those still looks super! :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::
-
Does 3P0 have any useful rules in the game or does he just run around in a panic?
-
He has a few useful rules. But Artoo is the real hero, I think. So I finally got around to painting this terrain piece:
(https://scontent-msp1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/106186981_10157655734753198_7590611902722239486_o.jpg?_nc_cat=106&_nc_sid=ca434c&_nc_ohc=GWeRo0lFDKoAX-7AbHl&_nc_ht=scontent-msp1-1.xx&oh=fc674c8745eaa02f0d18c1a66d205095&oe=5F18D7FA)
-
Did you take an actual model to create that or is that how it came?
-
Several years ago, I wanted to make a gag diorama of a sentinel pilot and ATST driver comparing notes
-
These all look amazing Sharkbelly!
-
Great work here! Especially the Clone Wars era models. Lovely job with the galactic marines.
-
Did you take an actual model to create that or is that how it came?
That is how it came. Thanks for the feedback, all!
-
Picked up my copy of Star Wars Legion: Clone Wars from the post office. I ordered it last Friday with my 40K Indomitus box set, with both arriving in the same box yesterday.
First impressions ...
Rules don't look difficult. Thank goodness for the instructions on the droids, because even with those, creating all those figures is going to a be a project by itself. However, it seems plenty of room for customizing them with so many parts. I like the looks co the counters, nice and colorful. The dice are interesting, mostly 8 sided dice, although some 6 sided, so this will be different. The plastic tray inside the box seems like a good addition to include, but well see how that works out further down the line.
-
I think the rules are pretty straightforward, but it will take some time (at least for me) to figure out all of the synergies.
In the meantime, I have added some new models to my painting list. First up is Jedi Knight Luke:
-
My issue at the moment is where to put building the droids into the hobby queue. Along with the rest of the box. :icon_wink: :icon_lol:
-
The droids sure are fiddly, but not as bad as the plastic spirit hosts were for Warhammer. So there's that! Good luck.
-
When I saw how many parts there were for the droids, the sprues went back into the box quickly. :icon_wink: :icon_lol:
However, it seems to make them very customizable, so that is a good thing. I just can't see starting the project currently. Especially when I am in the middle of gluing so many 28mm Perry Wars of the Roses figures, and I am having my fill of gluing at the moment!
-
I hear that. I have some Khorne and Nurgle models for Warhammer Quest that have been on the shelf for some time now because I am focusing on other things.
-
A few years ago I tried painting Hasbro star wars Command miniatures. In hind sight it was a bad idea as there was almost no variety in the range and most of the paints didn't work well with the plastic
-
That's too bad! It looks like a decent range of models.
So I painted a few more rebels, these of the alien variety.
-
I did manage to find a Jabba the Hutt keychain figureine that was the same scale and he was no trouble to paint. I guess it was the plastic used on him.
The Jabba mini also fills in for a great unclean one on occasion
-
Nice! I love those sorts of serendipitous finds.
So I finished Iden Versio and ID-10 the other day, and here they are. Versio came with a few different configurations (sniper rifle, carbine, or blaster rifle, helmet or no helmet) and I used an old Empire head as well so the figure could be used as a generic character for the RPG.

-
Cool! Nice to see the Empire heads on some of your figures too.
The local hobby shop I went into yesterday had lots of Star Wars Legion figures and accessories. I walked past the line up on purpose, since I already had a set of gobos on wolfs and some paint that I was on the way to the counter to purchase. I'd already decided not to buy the KIllteam starter set with Space Wolfs, Tau, and terrain. :icon_lol:
-
Now that school has started up again my pace is slowing down, but I did manage to finish a few things this weekend.
Here is BB-11, nicknamed "Bullseye." The model is part of a Legion-scale X-Wing kit.

I like both! :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool: :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::
-
That droid be cute!☝️😺
-
I like that scenery actually. Would be perfect for some RPG games.
-
That's what I'm hoping too. Speaking of which, here are the two hostages from the Vital Assets expansion. I think they'd make great RPG characters too.

Love it! 😺
And the bombs !
-
I have to ask.
Is the game character based on unit based. I ask as some characters [despite being so obscure] have really big fan bases.
-
For last May the Fourth I ran a bunker attack scenario using the d6 Miniatures Battle rules. Today we ran the second half, where Rex and Sabine infiltrate the base to rescue C3PO. Here's how it went:
R2D2 opens the door, and the heroes enter. They find a small group of Imperials on duty. There is a short, violent lightfight, and they take out the guards without attracting too much attention.
Inside, they are noticed by some Shoretroopers. There is a more protracted fight and Rex is injured. However, they do defeat the guards.
They enter the detention bay and free C3PO. However, they also find a Neimoidian prisoner as well. Since Sabine plans to try to blow up the base, they take the prisoner with.
The heroes make a quick stop by the medical bay to get Rex patched up. They convince the medical droids to leave, since the base will soon be destroyed.
There is a repair bay that is home to some large fuel tanks. This is where Sabine plans to plant explosives to destroy the base. There is a short struggle with an Imperial security droid.
Just as the explosives are put into place, another squad of Imperials arrive. The heroes beat a hasty retreat before the base explodes. They take off with a few more droids and a Neimoidian prosoner in tow.
-
:icon_cool: :::cheers:::
-
Very cool fight!
-
Thank you! I'd been promising the kids that I would do a follow-up to the attack on the bunker, and finally got around to it.
I think my next project will be a Clone Wars era campaign.
-
Meanwhile, the first of my Mandalorians is now finished.

Up next are some Warhammer Kastelans that I plan to paint up as Imperial Mining Guild droids.

Quote Shark: Up next are some Warhammer Kastelans that I plan to paint up as Imperial Mining Guild droids.
Can’t wait. That should be great!
-
Thats a great group shot.
-
Thank you very much!
There was news this week that Asmodee (the owner of Legion) is shifting management of the game from Fantasy Flight to Atomic Mass Games. I don't know what this means for the future of the game. In the meantime, I still have some releases to catch up on. And other stuff to add. Here are the Kastelan Robots. I free-handed the Mining Guild symbol, and I thought it turned out okay but not great.
-
On the subject of the Mechanicus. Today I was talking with someone how Skitari troops probably have HK-47 speech patterns
-
Love the kastelans and the fluff behind them. Seeing them part of a mining company just seems to work
-
Thank you very much!

Interesting to learn of the management switch, thank you!
Are those Kastelan Robots part of the figure line? I'm wondering how many cool figures I'm missing out on with this game.
And I like the concept of them being part of a mining company, too! :icon_cool: :::cheers:::
-
@Gamerspoet
Kastelan robot are part of the mechanicus range.
-
^+1 to that. They're 40k models.
This thread has pretty much convinced me to get the starter set for christmas. Can use it for Star Wars AND 40k I bet. Storm troopers and Inquistors/Psykers.
-
There are two starter sets.
-
Double the options! I'm mostly looking at the Imperial Vs Rebel set because I think it can get used for 40k easier. Human rebels and imperial storm troopers become scion/storm troopers, Luke/Vader become Inquistitor/psykers, rebel walker thing becomes a scout sentinel, etc.
-
I could see that. With the Clone Wars set ... maybe troopers = scions, and droids = Mechanicus or maybe even early Necrons.
-
That could be good. I especially like the idea of droidy mechanicus. I dont know their army list enough to know what some of the other units could focus as. Clone troopers would likely make excellent scions.

Cool idea! I love hobby stuff that can pull double duty.

Scions are on my list to use as Rebel drop/shock troopers. Maybe some cultists too as scum or wastelanders.
-
I agree. Anytime I can have figures crossing from one set of rules to another, that is a good deal!
-
I made a Rebel Pilot for my Saber Tank so I can use it in that faction too. It turns out the a one cent coin fits in it great, so I glued the guy to that as a base.

These guys fit the element! Awesome!
-
I'm surprised there are no gag pictures of white scar space marines, standing next to stormtroopers

Here's the best I can do. This is my take on Zero-G Spacetroopers.

Ha! That's classic, well done! :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool: :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::

I remember a Rouge squad comic in which a spacetrooper suit activated itself

I'm impressed with your white Sharkbelly. I wish I could get mine to look half as smooth and covered. My dudes always look like someone chucked white paint at them as they walked passed.

White, yellow and orange are the three hardest colours to use. I'm currently torturing myself with a Howling Griffons project

I actually really like the Apothecary contrast paint for white models. It's what I used on all my Clone Troopers.
Speaking of Clones, mine have a new Field Commander. I made an Aayla Secura out of an extra Witch Elf.

All right, I finally got my hands on a couple squads of B2 Battle Droids. Those and the last of my Kroot should round out 2020 quite nicely. In 2021 I will shift focus back to Warhammer stuff, for the most part.
-
It has been wonderful following your Star wars Legion project. :icon_cool: :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::

Yeah, this has been great. Got me pretty thoroughly hooked on Star Wars models. So many ways to work them into 40k or vice versa!
-
Awesome! Thanks, everyone.
-
Here is the finished Kroot army. These guys will make great aliens for Star Wars.

Awesome! They fit in the Star Wars vibe easily
-
Really cool! I look forward to seeing a match between them and someone else!
-
I hope to play one soon! When I do, I'll share pics.
Meanwhile, here is my last painting project for 2020. I went with a really simple color scheme and painted these in just a couple hours.

That makes for around 175 models painted in 2020. All of my current Star Wars stuff is done, and now I will start tackling a backlog of Warhammer Quest adversaries...

Those look great! I like how you used a light gray for the bodies, but a dark silver for the arms and legs, nice contrast.

Looking real nice. Simple, but effective.

Thanks! I didn't really intend that, but the arms and legs picked up more of the dry-brushing, I guess.

Veers has gotten his AT-AT and a complement of troops and speeder bikes. He is now ready to spread order and prosperity across the galaxy. This is the 1:53 scale AT-AT from Revell and the 1:48 scale AT-ST from Bandai. The rest are all Star Wars Legion models.
